Why can i not highlight text in pages in different colours?

Dear Apple Dev.
Why is there;
a. no easy way to highlight text,
b. no easy way to chage the colour or the highlighting?
APPLE PLEASE ADD THIS MOST BASIC USEFUL FEATURE THAT MS WORD - and I do hate using ms word - and use pages at every opportunity, has been able to do for probably going on 20 years...
Huge fan. need the basic work functionality.

why can I not install Acrobat Reader in a different drive / directory. I need to install this in a different drive. I prefer to keep the Os drive free of rubbish. Is there an option in an install to allow this to happen?

What is your operating system & version?
If you are on Windows, download the offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ and click 'Change Destination Folder' and the first install panel.

Why can I now highlight text with mouse pointer in Adobe Reader 9

I just downloaded Adobe Reader X. I think I prefer Reader 9. I don't like being able to click in the document and have a flashing place mark (right terminology?) there. This is now happening in the Reader 9 version too, and I can copy text this way, but I don't want this. I didn't change any preferences. Can anyone help?

Like I said, I didn't change any of the preferences, so I don't know why this happened. I think it only happened after I opened Adobe Reader X. I see no options in preferences for turning on or off the ability to highlight text with your mouse pointer, and I thought you were not supposed to be able to do this in Adobe Reader 9.

I read a lot of scanned text from my teacher as a part of my study. According to manuals, I should be able to highlight text - but It's not working.
Is it because the text is a scan? does it only work with text document files that are converted to pdf's?
Other people in my class experience the same problem. The twist is: it does work my co-student's Mac. (same shared file, file origin)
I use Win 8, Reader XI
Please advise :-)

Yes. To highlight text it must be "real" text, ie text that can be selected, not just an image.
To convert an image to real text you need Acrobat, or a subscription to PDF Pack.
You can use the Square tool, or other drawing markup tools, to create a kind of highlight over the desired text, though.

Why can't I highlight text in Preview?

In Preview v.7.0 (826.4), I highlighted text and saved the file but at a later date I could not highlight different text? Why would that be? Thank you.

Ok...I think I've figured it out. I have my trackpad set to tap for everything but it seems that to highlight next you now have to actually click the trackpad. I hope this rather obvious solution helps others...or at the very least provides some amusement

Why can I not open documents in Pages that were created in Pages?

I am using the most recent update to Pages. Unfortunately all the documents that I had within the previous version of Pages will not open within the new Pages. Equally, I cannot open any documents that I have just created with the new Pages either. Is there an obvious solution to this? Very frustrating!

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Why can I not copy text from a file and paste into "File Name" when saving?

I thought I used to do this but I cannot copy a string of text from within AI (CS5, CS6 or CC) then "save as" and paste into the "file name" field. Why would this be?
This proceedure works fine in Photoshop.
Mac OSX 10.7.5.

I am copying the characters not the object. Something seems to have changed at the system level. I can paste the text to other applications (Skype, Word, etc.) but not the "Save" dialog. I have been pasting the text to a Skype message window and re-copying. Then it will paste into the save dialog. Weird.
I see you are on 10.6.8. Maybe it's a system difference.

Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006. Sometimes security software can prevent your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.

Why can I not return to home page after exitting web mail?

My home page is Virgin Media. I can log in and out of my isp's Google powered web mail but am not automatically returned to my home page and cannot access it by the 'back' button. I have to close and re-open the browser and there is often a delay before the browser re-opens.

That's an expected behavior. You cannot access home-shared music unless the person who shares actually has iTunes up and running. My suggestion is all the users to make iTunes to automatically launch when the computers start. If using Windows I believe there isn't a way for iTunes to launch and sort of hides. If using Mac OS, iTunes can launch and hide by checking the box on System Preferences > Users & Groups > [User] > Login Items. Hope this helps.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Are you sure you have the right printer?
In UNIX/OSX printers are virtual links to devices and even with the same name can be trying to reach a printer via another network address, so it thinks it is another printer.
