Why can I not update iTunes, or reinstall it?

When I still had iTunes on my Windows PC computer, it would not let me update to iTunes 10.5, and now not 10.6 either. So I tried to go into my control panel and repair the program and then update it; no luck whatsoever. Then I tried to uninstall it and reinstall it, now I can't even get iTunes back. How can I get the new iTunes 10.6 on my Windows PC computer? Please help me

So why can I not get iTunes working well?? It now takes at least 10 secs for any operation to be completed!
That is just plain evil. But I am sure I could do something to help.
All the music is on an 2T external drive.

Brigancook, is the library database on the external or just the media? iTunes reevaluates smart playlists and rewrites its database after every action on the library. I've found this can make a library half that size, with a lot of smart playlists, quite sluggish. That said I'm aware part of my problem is aging hardware. Having the database on the internal drive may improve performance if it is currently on the external.
I'd expect to see an exponential relationship between size and response time which may explain what you see. Cutting down on the number of smart playlists might help. If we're really lucky the long awaited iTunes 11 might have streamlined some of the background processes as well as cleaning up the front end.

'out' for a while). I used to be up to date, but now, it's all moving so

I've been trying to get in touch with Adobe mostly for 1. update of my
programs because I seem to have a lot of 'faults' in each (crashing, screen
moving and such)
BUT 2. also because I want to join CC and with the 40% off (as I have an
original CS) but when I enter info, it will not accept my serial nr. NOW
after your guidance I came across this site which shows that I am granted a
''free'' CC. Am I reading this right. _ ? I am no idiot, but yes, in the
computer field _ I am a designer and a damn good one, but all the techichal
(that is another language _ and heck, we all have our fields_ I go to a
mechanic to get my car fixed, you?

When I try to update iTunes software it asks me to point to the iTunes.msi folder to uninstall but I can't find that file.
I've tried to uninstall through the Control Panel but I get the same error.
Any ideas?

I have tried everything....
read all the posts, tried the ms cleanup and deleted ALL itunes, quicktime, bonjour, any and all apple related files. I even spent HOURS deleting same from registry.
The first attempt at version 10 got me the "can not find itunes.msi" error."
Afer deleting all apple files, (inc the working 9.0 version!), running msi cleanup, reg cleanup, emptying recyle bin, getting fresh version of installer, I still get the "older version can not be removed" error!!!! DAH! Have tried all of these things and more multiple times. All I can think of now is reformat. Say it isn't so. This is soooo frustrating....

Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try reinstalling iTunes again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

You said it is an iPhone 3G... but the iPhone 3GS is listed in your signature. This is an important difference... can you please clarify which model you have?
iPhone 3G can only be updated to iOS 4.2.1.
iPhone 3GS can go to the latest iOS 5.1.
If you check your current version under Settings > General > About > Software Version, and your current OS is higher than 4.2.1, then you have a 3GS. If you have 4.2.1 and iTunes says it's the latest version, you have a 3G.
