Why can I only text other iphone user

Is there anyone else having this issue? When I called my provider they said to pull out the SIM card, but that did nor resolve the issue. Please help.

Hi sweetie204,
If you are having issues sending non-iMessage messages (for example, SMS or MMS messages to non-iPhone users), you may find the following article helpful:

Why can I only text 10 people at a time with the IPhone 4s?

Apple has, to the best of my knowledge made a statement about why they have included this limitation. To prevent spamming perhaps? There are group texting apps available in the App Store that my suit your needs.

  • With iPad 2 I can use Messages to text other iPhone users, but not others.

With iPad 2 I can use Messages to text other iPhone users, but when I try others I get the big red x on the contact. I have upgrade to Iso 6. According to the help on Messages, it should have the capability to text outside Apple Products

I suggest asking Verizon.  Standard SMS text messaging is a cellular carrier function.

I have a samsung galaxy s4.  All of a sudden I can't get texts from iphone users.  I used to have an iphone.  What do I do

  • My iphone 4s will only text other iphones

my son's iphone 4s will only text other iphones & isn't calling out.  anyone else have this problem?

It does sound like your son is using iMessage.  Try turning it off on his phone.  Also, if he can receive calls, then the phone does have cellular service.  Try rebooting the phone.  Hold down the power and home keys at the same time until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to ...." message.  Leave the phone off for a few minutes, then power up.

I can only text to other iphones?

The iPhone can text other iPhones using iMessage. If you have set MMS and SMS to On, try contacting your carrier and having them make sure everything is setup correctly.

  • Having to turn off imessage to text other iphone users?

My friend who recently upgraded to ios7 has had to turn off iMessage in order to receive messages (texts) on her iphone; she could send messages, but she couldn't receive any from other iphone users. Her son, who has an Android phone could reach her before before she diabled iMessage, but anyone with an iphone she could not receive messages from. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, did you resolve it? How?
Apple really released this ios before thoroughly checking it out. In the long run it will hurt them in the wallet.

If you are talking about iMessage add an email address to Settings>Messages>Receive At that no one has in their contact for you, then change Settings>Messages>Receive At>Caller ID to that email.  Your iMessage will appear to them as this email address.

  • Disable iMessage as can't receive texts from iPhone users on new Android phone

I have done everything I can find online about this:
Deleted/unregistered the device from my profile
    Changed my password
Changed the number to 000000000 on my iPhone
Switched iMessage off on my iPhone
Deleted the device from my iCloud account.... HELP.
When I call apple I can't speak to someone it says I need to pay £25 as I do not have cover. Really?! Is there another number I can call? Any help appreciated. Will it work eventually? I have waited a week and still can't receive text messages from my husband on his iPhone. It's driving me mad! I love my new Android phone (LG G2) but this is so frustrating.

Hi zara343, I had a similar problem. I have a iphone and my daughter changed from iphone to android. We couldn't receive text messages to each other, she had no other problems with her other contacts, just mine. It was driving me crazy. My phone kept recognizing her android as an iphone. Yes I turned iMessage off and yes I could receive my daughters messages, but my two other daughters and a few friends had iPhones, so I didn't get their messages. My problem is now fixed, I tried to send a message to my daughter and it came up undelivered, so I pressed the red exclamation mark to the right of  the undelivered message and it gave me the option to try again, send as a text message or cancel. So I pressed send as a text message and my daughter received it, I tried again and message undelivered, so again I pressed the exclamation mark and went through the same process as before. I thought what a pain but did a third and now my iphone does not recognise her phone number as an iphone. So your husband would have to do this with his iphone and I am confident it will work, and me as an iphone user can keep iMessage switched on. Hope this helps.

  • Upgraded from iphone 4 to galaxy S4 now I can't receive texts from iphone users. Verizon Store employees are useless

I wish I would have known how bad this problem is before I upgraded.  Verizon is very much aware of the problem but says its not their problem.  They sold me the phone fully knowing this problem existed and never mentioned a thing to me.  I am furious!  I've tried unregistering the phone, changing the password on iTunes, deleting the contact and re-entering it.  The only way I can get a text through on this phone is by turning off imessage before sending a message every time or sending it from a non-iPhone.

        Hi finsup317,
Let's get your text messages flowing! If you have access to your previous iPhone please ensure that it is connected to internet via WiFi so that changes will sync with you Apple ID. Now go to Settings>Messages>Move iMessage to off. If you have other Apple devices (iPad, iPod, etc.) registered to same Apple ID as your phone, you need to deactivate iMessage on all of them, otherwise your messages will continue to go to your Apple ID instead of your new phone.
If you do not have access to your previous iPhone go to http://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do Log in with your Apple ID and password. Select the product you need to de-register (your iPhone, for example). Click ‘Unregister’. You’ll see the message ‘Are you sure you want to unregister and delete this product?’ – Click ‘Unregister’ again.
**Important ** by unregistering your iPhone from your Apple ID through the Apple site, it won’t have access to the App Store or content you’ve purchased unless you reregister it.

  • Why can I only sync my iPhone on one computer???

I was just wondering why I can only sync music onto my iPhone from one computer?? and not multiple like you can with the iPods?? I'm getting really frustrated because i have music on my home computer and 2 other laptops!

I am unsure on how I interpret the rule wrong, but here is a copy of the actual rule which I made a link to in my previous post.
Found under, http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/au/terms.html#SERVICE, 10. Purchase or Rental of iTunes Content, Usage Rule (iii).
"(iii) Your license of Products as authorised hereunder permits you to use the Products on five iTunes-authorised devices at any time, except in the case of Movie Rentals, as described below."
Also under, http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/au/terms.html#APPS, 9. USE OF PRODUCTS AND THE SERVICE, Usage rule (iii).
"(iii) You shall be able to store Products on five iTunes-authorized devices at any time."
When I read this, I understand it that the word Products refers to content on iTunes. But it could possibly interpreted differently.

  • Can't imessage to other iphone users - going to SMS

Have been having odd problems with iPhone4 through Verizon.  Using iOs5.1.1.
Until mid February, I had been able to send free text messages between myself and my friends who had been using iPhones.  You could tell they were free because they were blue text bubbles.
Now some of the same friends and I can still extend free iMessages between our iPhones - blue text bubbles.  But with other friends who have iPhones the text bubbles are green.  Sometimes with the same friend on the same day some text bubbles are green and some are blue.  It's not making any sense.
Are there problems with Apple iMessage causing these problems?  I don't think it's my older iOs because I clearly am able to send free blue bubble text messages between some friends - just not others.

    Hi telephotonc,
Your messages will only be blue if both you and your iMessage buddy are on Wifi. If you are on cellular, they are sent as SMS....

  • Disabled iMessage, now can't receive texts from iPhone users.

My sister-in-law has been going over her data plan, and we determined that iMessgae has been playing a role in this. Even though iMessage provides free text messaging, it still uses data and my SIL took advantage of her unlimited texting plan back when it was sms. thoudands of messages.  So now that iMessage was introduced she has been going over her 2gb data limit.  iMessage is not the sole reason, but at 300-500 mb a month in message data. Reducing that will help.
I instructed her how to diaable iMessage so all texts are send and received as SMS/MMS. She can send sms messages fine, but when someone tries to respond from an iPhone with iMessage, she doesn't recieve them.  What do we need to do to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi dinumolo!
Here is an article that will help you troubleshoot this issue with your ability to receive SMS messages:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2755
To resolve issues with sending and receiving SMS, follow these steps first
Go to Settings and turn airplane mode off.
Verify that you have a cellular network signal in the status bar at the top left of your iPhone. Learn more about troubleshooting no service if there's no signal.
    Restart your iPhone.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
    Reseat your SIM card.
If you are still unable to send or receive SMS, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact who's trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Make sure that you are using the area code with the contact's phone number. When sending messages internationally, you also need to use the contact's international code.
If using a "Pay as you go" SMS plan, it needs to have enough available balance. Contact your carrier if you're unsure of your SMS plan or the available balance.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and re-create the contact from the Contacts application. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
Back up and restore your iPhone as new.
If your carrier has recently ported your phone number, the porting process may not be complete. Contact your carrier to confirm that the porting process is complete.
Contact your carrier to confirm that you are provisioned for sending SMS and are in an area with cellular coverage.
Contact your carrier to verify there are no blocks or filters placed on your wireless account preventing you from sending SMS.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!
