Why can I receive iMessages but not send them?

I'm signed into Apple ID for iMessages and have both wifi and cellular data available but I can't send iMessages! I'm receiving them but can only respond by text. FaceTime is also working!

Macrumors posted a solution for this. I used it and it seems to have worked for me.
Here's what they said:
1. Turn off iMessage in Settings > Messages
2. Reset networking settings in Settings > General > Reset
3. Reenable iMessage in Settings > Messages

I keep getting an error message saying that something is wrong with my password or username. Yes, I have tried everything the sites have said besides taking it in to the Genius Bar. I tried hard restarting it, making sure my internet connection worked, moving off and on other networks, used an old backup to when I had iOS 6, deleting al my email accounts and adding them back, none of it has worked.

If it says that it can't send the message or that it had some sort of problem sending the message add a letter or word or take off a letter or word.
Make sure that firewall isn't blocking anthing.

I've confirmed all the setting for my email account with my IS provider. I can receive email on my iPhone 3GS no problem, but it won't connect to the server to send anything...any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks - that was one of the problems...turns out the IS provider had given me the wrong outgoing server info initially as well...helps to get the right info!

Most, if not all internet service providers block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the ISP being used for your internet connection at the time unless the SMTP server is authenticated.
Who are you using as your internet service provider at the time?
Does your ntlworld email account have an authenticated SMTP server.
I believe Yahoo does for a Yahoo account.

Whilst travelling we have plugged in an optus wireless broadband, we can receive emails but not send them, we normally use an adsl broadband connection

Although possibly not related to your problem, I will remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. Furthermore, it has known bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum stability, performance, security and usability. As for your issue, you need to provide more information. Firefox is not an email client. You may be having a problem with the email client you use, or with the site you are using to handle emails...

Added money to account. Can receive texts but not send them.

I added money to my daughters prepay account and she can send texts but not receive them. I have tried sending fresh texts and tried replying back and all I get are "message not sent" notifications. We are both on VZW. She got the verifcation text that the money went in and that the $20 texting plan was activated. Please help.

I am sorry to learn the device is not receiving texts! That's a bummer! Was your daughter's phone getting messages before adding money to it? You could go to icloud.com on your computer, then download your iCloud calendar as an .ics file as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4910 (under Calendar...icloud.com Calendar), then import this to a supported program on your computer such as Outlook or Mac iCal (if you have one) and sync it to your phone using iTunes; or if you don't have a supported program, import it to an external service such as Google Calendar (see http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/30834/add-an-ical-or-.ics-calendar-to-google-cale ndar/) and sync it to your phone using a gmail exchange account (as explained here: http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138740).

My M276nw can receive faxes but not send them.

This was purchased to send faxes and of course it has stopped doing that less than a month after the warranty expired.
I can't believe I was stupid enough to buy another HP product. Never again.
There is no information on what to do. It is always some sort of comm error. Usually mapping back to to much noise on the line. Problem with that is the receive is just fine.
Any suggestions?

I see that you are experiencing issues sending faxes, but you can receive faxes. I would like to help you.
Run a fax test.
From the Home screen, touch the wrench button.
Touch the service button.
Touch the Fax service button.
Touch run fax test.
You should get 4 passes.
Check these settings for the fax:
Go to the wrench icon/fax setup menu/advanced setup/private receive/turn it off.
Go to the wrench icon/service /fax service/error correction/turn it off.
Go to the wrench icon/fax setup /advanced setup/fax speed/change it to medium.
Go to wrench icon/service menu/fax service/clear saved faxes.
If you are still having issues, then follow this document.
Cannot Send or Receive Faxes.
Sorry for all the questions, but it will help to resolve this issue quicker.
Did the fax test pass?
What type of connection do you have? (Analogue, DSL, Cable Modem)
Are you using a filter?
Are you using the 2 wire fax cable?
Do you have distinctive ring set up on the line?
Is there any voice mail set up?
Do you have a answering machine? (Where is it connected to)
Where is the fax cable connected to? (modem, wall jack)
Is there a phone also connected the printer?

Hi, My sister is having an issue with her iPhone 5 that she can receive messages from my iphone 5s but cannot reply to them.....she has noticed it with one other number, Any ideas?
She has reset her phone, checked my number is right and we havent blocked each other.....

My iPhone phone number appeared as a recipient option on my mac as soon as I launched Messages on my iPhone but not on the iPad and I can't find a way to add it.

You do not have an app but you can setup your iMessage on the iPhone and switch it on (as it is since you receive messages on the iPhone).
In the same setup screen under iMessage you should have send receipt, send as SMS and also Send and Receive howmanyadress > Click on here and you will enter a new screen.
On top there should be you Apple ID and under your phone number. Under the phone number you can add some Mail adress to be used for iMessage. I believe it is important ot have the Apple ID on the top of this screen and at least one Apple Mail checked as to be used for iMessage.
This should be enought to get iMessage both on iPhone and Mac.
Try this and let iCloud to sync for few minutes and you should have the data on the Mac too.
