Why can't a button have 'actions applied to it' in Flash CS3?
I'm used to working with buttons in Flash MX and Flash 8 but
after creating a button in Flash CS3, I'm getting text that reads
'Current Selection Cannot Have Actions Applied To It' and so the
actions menus are greyed out.
What's the problem?

There is nothing stopping you from producing files in the old
ways. Go to the publish settings and select to publish as AS2. You
can then use the techniques you are familiar with.
However as dzedward points out, Actionscript has come a long
way. The technique of putting the code directly on instances really
went out with Flash MX in 2001 and for a long time now that wasn't
the best way to do it. See this article by the very excellent David

So even if you aren't ready to take the plunge into AS3, I

I have instances of a button and I cant seem to add any
actions to them! I just get the message in the topic title. I have
another flash file that has buttons with actions applied to them,
but this one wont let me!

In Flash CS3 using AS3, yes, you cannot apply actionscript
directly to any instance. You will need to name the instance and
then write your actionscript in a frame actions space.
Alternately, you can open the Publish Settings window and set
your movie to use AS2. Then you can continue to use actionscript as
you like.

Example:- I've just spent 20 minutes looking how to 'translate' after I installed that add-on, there it was! A tiny little icon in the bottom right of the screen, I find the new set up very messy and very hard to navigate. Why can't I have the same set up on my toolbar that I've had for the last ten years? It's that bad that I'm even considering going back to I.E.

Thanks but you're only telling me stuff I already know, that dosen't explain how I get the new version of Firefox to look neat and tidy like it always used to. I can no longer have all my icons that I use, I can no longer access things as easily as I could and the whole thing looks very bare and basic now! A bigger mess than even Google Chrome.
I've spent most of this evening trying to get stuff back that is now lost because of this 'upgrade' and I'm now giving up with it. Well done! You've totally ruined what was the best browser for years.

Why can I not just have a new phone.

I am on my 3 refurbished replacement phone and am starting to get fustrated with Verizon. Every refurbished Galaxy S III that has been sent to me has had a different malfunction. Why can't I just have a new phone enstead of a refurbished one.

Yes, it should, that's why they have a warranty, and the warranty says that after 14 days and up to 1 year, they will replace it with a refurbished device.

I have a student who created a small animation with an introduction and then in the middle she wants to do a stop action (which works) then add a play button to play the rest of the animation. We are trying to use Action Script 2.0 - we have CS4 and they were taught with the instruction book to use 2.0 in the class. Help?

Based on that message, Esdebon is likely giving you the correct solution. AS3 does not allow objects the have code applied to them, and that message is an AS3 message. If you check your Publish Settings you will probably find that AS3 is selected instead of AS1/2.

I have photoshop CS3 with camera raw plug-in 4.6.0.30 on MacBook Pro OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) and a Panasonic Lumix FZ45
I have checked the list of supported cameras and mine appears to be there.
I have no available updates in photoshop so assume that I am up to date with those.
Anyone have any ideas?

Yes, the Panasonic FZ45 is listed but it was first supported by Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 6.2.

Then go to this table to see which versions of Photoshop are compatible with ACR 6.2: CS5 and later. Not CS3.

So your options are to upgrade to CS6 or subscribe to CC (check out the Photoshop Photography Program: PS CC + Lightroom 5).
Or download the free DNG converter, convert all your FZ75 Raw files to DNGs then open the DNGs in CS3

This common login is supposed to be one reason why Adobe can't implement NNTP. But what function does it serve? I've commented in another thread, and below is more or less, what i said there...
That, i think, was the most assinine idea anyone ever came up with. I see no reason for not having separate log ins for store and forums / downloads. In fact, i can't think of one good reason to combine the two.
If i were a user of the Adobe store, i would definitely prefer to have a separate login and password for that area. I think most people would. I see a lot of aliases in the forums. In the store, you'd want to use your real name for tax and audit purposes. Moreover, what's to stop people creating two identities anyway? So, the whole purpose of a common id is meaningless.
Am sure, that even at this stage, it wouldn't be too difficult to separate the two. For instance, whenever i open the forums i see a welcome at the top of the screen. Right above 'Home'. Yet, i still have to login to the forums... what give? Idiotic.
Adding to the above, doing away with this single log in would also mean an end to this frustration of suddenly getting logged off, randomly staying logged in, etc., etc.

I do hope you are not a member of the Adobe higher quarters, and that you are not officially speaking for Adobe, because a company that isn't able to recognize and correct a bad policy decision is doomed. Also, I hope you are willing to explain to us mere mortals which of the very many issues people are (in your words) whining about do stand a chance, however slight, of changing.

Why can't I get any Actions to play?

All the loaded actions worked yesterday....none will play today. I can bring up yesterday's work and continue to work on the action run, however, when I closed that out and went to another project, I was unable to run any action loaded. I deleted the actions and re-entered turning off the computer after each action loaded. Still would not work. I finally uninstalled 11 and then re-installed it. Still no luck. I hope someone can tell me what I am doing wrong!! Are ACTIONS suppose to be a preset folder? I don't have a preset Actions folder in my program files...not even after I re-installed.

Why can't we simply have an option to enable/disable Javascript on sites again in the settings for Firefox 27? Suddenly my Gmail attachments won't open. Gmail.

Suddenly my Gmail attachments have stopped opening, and I receive the message: JavaScript must be enabled in order for you to use Gmail in standard view. However, it seems JavaScript is either disabled or not supported by your browser. To use standard view, enable JavaScript by changing your browser options, then try again.
I found a Mozilla support thread where it was explained that Javascript has been turned off for a while in FF. OK. Then there was a complicated answer about how you could still turn it back on by typing in a config code into the address bar. What? Or, you could download an extension to do that for you. Why?
Please-- if you really feel like users can't be trusted, and Javascript must be turned off, at least bring back the ability to enable/disable Javascript on a per site basis in options, without having to know code. It's Gmail.

There is nothing on that thread that says Javascript is turned off by default. to quote:

The UI checkbox to disable Javascript was removed, but the option still exists in about:config (which isn't code btw, it's just preferences), nor was Javascript turned off by default, in fact the opposite is true, it is enabled by default with the option to disable it made a little more difficult to find, as only advanced users need to disable Javascript.

Under File -> Publish Settings, "Flash" tab i have:
Player: Flash Player 8
Script: Action Script 2.0
SWF settings - compress movie and include hidden layers checked.
Advenced - Permit debugging and password set.
Local playback security: Access Network Only
Script time limit incrased from 15 to 1500 seconds but neither value changes a thing.

Why can't I do batch actions from CS4 or CS5 Bridge now when I could before?

Something has changed in my functions for doing batch actions in Bridge. In CS5 Bridge I try to do a simple batch action of saving a DNG file as a jpg and closing the file. When I attempt this I get a message saying 'The command "Save" is currently not available.
I try to do the same thing in CS4 Bridge. I go to the Tools menu and look for Photoshop in the drop down menu but it's not there. This is how I do batch action processing with my Windows version of CS4 Bridge. I am confused about what has changed when I was able to do batch actions routinely in CS4 and CS5 Bridge on my Mac.

Batch using tools menu from Bridge to reach Photoshop should work as expected in both CS4 and CS5. If not then there is something wrong on either your system or install.
Go to Bridge CS5 preference and look for the section Start Up Scripts and see if there is still a Start Up Script for Photoshop CS5 present and with a checkmark in front for activation. If not try first to restart bridge holding down option key and choose refresh preferences. This should retrieve the original Start Up scripts again.
If your command save as is not available check the action and see what the save path for that acton is. If it is a copied action from an other system changes are that it still contains the save path for the old drive and if the script can't find it it provides a warning message.
Also check if the drive you save to has both read and write permission.

Why can't different tabs have different languages?

I want to be able to switch between tabs, and that each tab will remember the language I used in it. Both explorer and chrome have this feature, but firefox does not, and I really like firefox in all other manners. This is a very important feature for non-english speaking counties.
I have wrote this question before (6 months ago), but did not get any feedback. FF4beta does not seem to have this feature as well.

Maybe try to contact the developer of the Content Preferences extension and ask if he can include that in a next version. The extension can set the encoding, but not the language if that is what you want.

Why can't inner classes have static methods?

I just tried to add a static method to an inner class, which would have been useful for extracting constants about said inner class, and it turns out that is not allowed.
Of course I have other ways to code what I wanted, but I'm curious as to why this restriction was set in place. Anybody know?

Probably because an inner class is tied to an instance of the enclosing class. I think that, conceptually at least, the inner class' definition itself only exists in the context of an instance of the enclosing class. While I'm sure it would have been technically possible to allow it, it would be confusing and not make a whole lot of sense--what is the static context for the inner class, since the class only exists in a non-static context?

Why? Apple did not promise Siri when you bought your iPad.
It's probably due to the RAM and processor limitations.
