Suddenly, I am unable to open a new tab. I can click on a link and open a tab that way, but if I want to open several sites on my own, I have to open a new browser. I've tried clicking the +, and clicking File - New Tab. Neither are working. I've even checked Tools - Options - Tabs. That didn't work, either. Please help!

Why can't I open a new Tab with the "Plus" sign or "Command-T"?
If I want to open a New Tab, I either press "Command T" or select "New Tab" from the File menu, or click the little "plus" sign in my Tabs bar - - - right? None of them work. What am I missing?
This problem in is Firefox on your Mac?
May users have discovered this problem is caused by Conduit add-ons, such as a Conduit plugin and/or a "Community Toolbar" extension.
You can check for and disable extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Command+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Does that help with the "+" button? If so, could you name the specific extension that caused the problem?
You might also check the Plugins section of the Add-ons page. You can use "Never Activate" to disable plugins that you don't ordinarily use. -
Why can I not open a new tab in the new Firefox? (via the + sign or Ctrl T)
In the new interface on Firefox (which started for me today ... May 2 ...), I cannot open a new tab via the "+" sign along the top or by using Ctrl + T. If I want more than one thing open at the same time, I need to open a "New Window", which doesn't make much sense. I don't necessarily want a bunch of windows but may need a few tabs open at the same time.
Hi bmail, I am attaching an illustration of cor-el's suggestion showing what it does since I wasn't aware of that before.

Why can't I open a new tab manually?
All of a sudden I am not able to manually open a new tab. It was working fine until yesterday. I click on the "plus" and nothing happens.
Hello maxkufan, start firefox in [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode#os=win7&browser=fx17 Safe Mode] and check it again, in Safe Mode window select '''''"Start in Safe Mode"''''' and see if this happen again,''''' if not '''''see: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-extensions-themes-to-fix-problems#os=win7&browser=fx17 Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]
if the above is unhelpful then see: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf Corrupt localstore.rdf], try the manual method.

Why can't I open a new tab unless it is already in Bookmarks?t
When I click on the new tab + sign or File-New Tab I get nothing. If I tell a bookmark to open in a new tab, that works, but that's a pain.
This issue can be caused by the Ask<i></i>.com toolbar (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions)
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Why can I not open a new tab?
I have three tabs open. There is the "+" tab to open a new one. When I click on this "+" tab or I select FILE->NEW TAB....then a new tab will not open. I am currently limited to three tabs.
The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13 version. Evidently something in that extension isn't compatible with a Firefox security fix. Disable that extension or un-install it.

it`s not working. new tabs open only when I click on a link. ctrl+T doesn`t function as well!
Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
* Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
* Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons -
Why can't I open a new tab for the same website? Want to disable 'switch to tab'.
I used to be able to open multiple tabs for the same website on Firefox 3.xx. I could download files from one tab and work from another. How can I disable the 'switch to tab' function?
You can disable it by using the Switch to Tab no more add-on - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/switch-to-tab-no-more
