Why can't I add downloaded music to my iPod?

I have 2000 songs on one computer and on my iPod, and 300 on another that I just purchased. How can I merge them or get the new 300 into my iPod?

Maybe u can manually put songs. if you sync that.the 2000 will gonna erase

So I recently bought an iPod touch, and I haven't had trouble with it until now. I downloaded a free TV show extra thing and it's in HD & SD, and it downloaded fine and everything. But when I tried to add it to my iPod, a popup comes up with the message: "Blah blah blah" was not copied to the iPod "Michaela's iPod" because it cannot be played on this iPod.
Why? I tried to do the "Advanced Settings" and convert it, but the convert option is grayed out and I can't choose it. I thought the iPod touch could play HD (and I do have another HD video on it currently), so why can't I add this new HD/SD video to my iPod? And I know there's enough space because I have 24.6 GB free space.

Why not try doing a "Save As" to a new file, and see if the new file lets you add more music.

It sounds like you are trying to manually manage your iPod's contents. If that is the case, have you double checked to make sure the "Manually manage music and videos" option is still ticked from under your iPod's Summary tab in iTunes? i have this ipod and everything worked fine on it.For the past week the speakers havent been playing any music. Although you can hear the sounds that the ipod does. i have also tried it with headphones and it doesnt work either. the volume is always up so i doubt that would be the problem. Any one have any suggestions?

Why can't I back up music from my ipod to my computer itunes that were burned from CDs? It will only back up songs purchased from itunes.

I can burn the CDs to my itunes on my lap top but it is about 1000 songs. Can I do it by synchronizing? So far I can only get the istore purchsed music to go.

What country are you in ? Re-downloading music isn't currently possible in all countries (the record companies need to agree to it for each country). If you are in a country where music can be re-downloaded, then if the tracks are still in the store then they should show under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes.

I just downloaded and installed os5, and now all of my podcasts are gone (everything else is fine), and there is no program that will play them when I download them again.

Mine plays them fine ... But it did move the Podcast button off the main page. Click on "More" and then you should see them. You might want to make sure that iTunes is still syncing podcasts to your phone.
If you click "edit" (top left) you can move it back to the bottom row.

Same problem here. After installing iOS 5, restoring, and syncing... when I clicked on the music icon on my iPad, none of my songs were there. All I saw was "download music from iTunes store." But, on iTunes, when I clicked on my iPad icon (then Music), it showed that all of my songs were synced!
So, this is what worked for me, I rebooted my iPad.
I turned off my iPad by holding down the sleep button for about 5 seconds, then the "Slide to power off" came up, and I powered off my iPad.
Then, I started it up again, and clicked on the music icon on my iPad, and now all of my synced music showed up.
I hope this helps some of you guys out there.

If you didn't make a back-up of your music/movie purchases to restore from (as you are advised to do) then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Products may only be downloaded once; after being downloaded, they cannot be replaced if lost for any reason. I'm a newby so forgive me. But I've already lost all the apps I purchased for my ipod because I wanted to update my music library (transferring from macbook pro itunes to my ipod touch). It said to do so would wipe out all my apps. I said yes thinking I could go back and add the apps later—because I still "see" them in itunes. But when I tried to select and transfer the apps they're all grayed out! I can't find a way to select and reinstall them. Same with tv shows purchased on itunes: I want to put them on my ipod but it says to do so will wipe out my entire music library. At least it gives me an option to select those unlike the apps. How frustrating! It seems I can't add one thing without entirely wiping out another.

Yes. Same computer. Yes. The computer is authorized. I am able to move my music to the iPod so assume it's signed in to the account. The iPod actually came with the Computer. It has never been synced to other computer. Am I just doing something wrong? Why can't it update my music library without copying over my apps? You cannot manually manage music with match turned on on your iOS device. If you want to manage music manually, you will need to turn off match on your iPhone.

Whoa! I didn't "recommend" any software for you to download. I merely pointed you to a link which contains suggestions/instructions on how to move music from the iPod to the computer. Option 2 in that link for instance doesn't need any software download.
In any event, all you should have been doing is copying the music from iPod to computer and it's difficult to know what you did that caused the music to be erased from your iPod.
Any music not on your iPod or computer is lost unless you want to try some data recovery software (assuming you haven't begun to write over the iPods hd). It's not guaranteed that you'll recover any music this way, and this type of software is rarely free.
Sorry to say this, but this is just another example of why it's not a good idea to keep the music on your iPod only.
