Why can't i add music to iPhone 5 in iTunes

Hi
I have an iPhone 5, all software uptodate. I also have a macbook air and iMac, again all itunes software unto date. When I plug my iPhone in the iPhone is recognised in iTunes. I can add files in the apps section, but no matter what i try, i can't add music to my iPhone from my iTunes.
I have iTunes match, but the files i want (podcasts, although in albums section of my iTunes as not downloaded from iTunes store) aren't available in the cloud.
How do i get ten onto my phone, it worked on my iPhone 4 but not my 5...frustrating!
Help!

Also, just updated the phone's software today, and iTunes' software is already up to date.

    Hi Gregg,
Have you tried resetting the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if your Music app is behaving normally.

  • How do you add music to iPhone in Itunes it doesn't show up in the right hand corner anymore?

How do you add music to iPhone in Itunes it doesn't show up in the right hand corner anymore?

Reboot your computer. In iTunes go to View menu. Does it say Hide Sidebar? If it does look the iPhone in the left sidebar in iTunes.
If it says Show Sidebar and you still don't see the iPhone on the upper right try choosing Show Sidebar and look on the left.
If it's still not showing see: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538

  • FRUSTRATION - why can't I add music from multiple computers to my iPhone??

I use multiple Mac computers in my life. My home computer has about 30 gigs of music. My work computer has about half that. Therefore syncing in any case is not an option. I have added some music from home to my new iPhone, and I want to do the same from my work computer but cannot! WHY?? I can do this with my 5th gen Video iPod no problem.
Plugged into my work computer now, I try to set the iPhone again to "manually manage music," but it still tells me the iPhone is synced with another computer (it is not, since I immediately disabled the sync feature before adding music). Is this going to be the case if I want to add photos from multiple computers, etc., too?
    WHY?? WHY??? WHY?????
    SO FRUSTRATING...

    You're welcome.
Maybe I'm missing something, but i still struggle to see the connection. Disk mode is the iPods ability to be mounted as a disk on the desktop, allowing the free disk space to be used manually. It exists completely outside the iPods normal, iTunes-driven functions, right? What we are missing on the iPhone is a simple feature from inside iTunes – a feature that all other iPods (as far as i know) have. Strange that the "Amazing iPod" does not.
Disk mode has everything to do with the ability to transfer iTunes content to an iPod from multiple computers. This is not a simple feature from inside iTunes.
Do you have an iPod? If so, are you transferring iTunes content from more than one computer to your iPod? If so, do you have disk mode enabled for your iPod? If yes, turn off disk mode and test if you are still able to transfer iTunes content from more than one computer to your iPod.
Nothing prevents me from admitting when Apple goes wrong or disappoints, but this is not the place for it. This is a user to user help forum for technical support issues and questions only which has a terms of use. Discussing Apple's policies and procedures and ranting is specifically against Apple's terms of use for these discussions.
Since this is a user to user help forum only, no one here knows Apple's reason or reasons why disk mode is not supported with the iPhone. The only answer you will get here or anywhere else for that matter is someone's opinion, unless Apple makes an announcement or information is provided by an exec during an interview. IMO, there must be a valid reason or reasons why disk mode is not supported with an iPhone since it is supported with iPods. Since disk mode is supported with iPods, more than likely there isn't a technical reason why it isn't supported with an iPhone, so I seriously doubt that Apple decided not to support disk mode with the iPhone just for kicks, or for no valid reason or reasons whatsoever on their part.
Until I know Apple's reason or reasons, it is difficult for me to admit Apple has gone wrong in this regard, for it may make Apple right for a reason or reasons we don't know, which can be disagreed on. Once facts are known, just because you believe Apple has gone wrong and/or you are disappointed doesn't mean I believe the same, which may or may not have anything to do with being an Apple fan - maybe we just don't agree.
My brand loyalty goes only so far. I did plenty of research on the iPhone before making the decision to purchase one. Before purchasing an iPhone, I can count on one hand the number of MMS I had exchanged. I have used a number of Palm handhelds for business - before they began selling a Palm cell phone, and I don't recall editing a word or excel document once during all that time. I wasn't interested in doing so with such a small screen, and since I wasn't interested in doing any editing, cut/copy/paste wasn't critical to me either.
If these features were very important to me - features I used on a daily or very regular basis, I would not have purchased an iPhone regardless the other features it includes. I certainly wouldn't purchase one anyway knowing these things, followed by wasting my time at an Apple user to user help forum for technical support issues and questions whining and ranting about it, which is common here by an immature small percentage of users. There is nothing wrong with providing constructive comments here, which constructive being the key word. There are some folks here who don't know what the word constructive means and don't have a clue about how use it.

  • Why can I not add music manually to my iPhone?

I have tried dragging and dropping music onto my iPhone or iPad, and it doesn't seem to work.  I used to use this feature all the time, but for some reason now, it does not work.  What am I missing?

    Hi T$Money ,

  • Why can't I load music onto iPhone 4?

I can't load any music onto my iPhone 4. Here is a screen shot of iTunes which says I have 1.51 GB of free memory and I'm only trying to load a few MB of music onto it. It gives me an error message that I need something like 540 MB more memory. It also says I have a bunch of music on my iPhone which I don't. (I have like 1 song on the phone right now.) What should I do?

Hi, it's not that iTunes doesn't work, but required you more more space for the songs. I think you should try to clean some space and try to sync music to your iPhone again. And before doing the sync, you can check how much space has been taken for music (tap Settings > General > Usage > Music). If you say only 1 song is here, then maybe it only take several KB. If there are other songs, there maybe several MB.

  • Anyone know why I can't sync my music from iphone to itunes?

I've tried syncing my iphone to my itunes library, tried transfering them as well....no luck. The songs appear in the itunes library but have an "!" in front of them.  I've tried locating them and when I go to my computer where it says they are not there. I am up to date with downloads and have a iphone 4s and itunes is on my pc windows7. I can play them on the phone only.

When you reinstalled iTunes, did you remove and reinstall by the exact steps listed here? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
You will need to do it that way. That would be the only thing I can think of that would be stopping the transfer of purchases. If you go into Task Manager and Services, is the Apple Mobile Device Service running? If you go into Device manager when the phone is connected, do you see the Apple Device Driver listed under USB devices? Have you tried disconnecting the phone and then rebooting the computer, then doing a reset on the phone holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone reboots and the computer reboots, connect them again?

  • Why can't I add music to my ipod after a system restore?

A little more info on what went down, went to charge my ipod said couldnt find it and had to do a system restore. Did that, but when the back up part started, gave me some weird error msg. Help would be nice. Thank you!

Was there just a bad network conneciton that you had? Sometimes that is the issue. If you do gain access to iTunes via your iPod again, you can go to the iTunes Store App > more > purchased > music > and then 'Not on this iPod'

  • Why can't I use music I bought through itunes in my movie project?

I sent my movie to idvd, then attempted to add some itunes purchased music to the menu screen. I dragged it from th itunes folder in media browser and dropped it in the menu screen on the map window. The title of the song appears (I had the green + symbol on my cursor as I dropped it), all should be good, right? Wrong; it won't play when I preview it. Someone suggested I burn the track to a cd in .aiff format, then I can use it. Why?? I don't use cds anymore, and I don't want to burn one song to a cd; I shouldn't have to

    Hi
If You made an Audio-CD with .aiff files - not .mp3 or other. And this still do not work then I guess that iDVD pref file got corrupted and needs to be trashed (iDVD will make a new error free one on next start-up)
    Else
Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.
    • Delete iDVD pref. file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try (much better way to test)
    iDVD pref. file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences (Not Library on Root level)
    and is named.
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Disconnect all external hard disks and try - FireWire, USB/2, AirPort or Net-work connected.
To work OK I prefer FireWire AND it must be Mac OS Extended formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - WILL NOT DO for video - neither for iMovie or FinalCut or iDVD any version ! This also includes any USB-memory sticks.
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple’s Disk Utilities application)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK will work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD’09 v. 7.0.4, Mac OS X.5.8 AND QuickTime 7.6.4 - is OK (does work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/iDVD/Themes/ zzzzzzzzzz
    or
    Macintosh HD/Users/Your log-in//Library/Application Support/iDVD/Installed Themes/ zzzzzzzzzz
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem ! ! Finally ! !
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
    iDVD updated ?
    Apple Codec updated ?
Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets
No of Colors - must be set to millions
EdinSF writes that, The 10.6.3 update with an Open GL fix seems to have taken care of the problem.

  • Why can't I add cd's to my itunes any more?

I have an extensive itunes on my old powerbook that I still use but suddenly I can not use the itunes to add any more cd's. Why is this? I have a new macbook. is it because I have the new one? How do I transfer the itunes from the old one to my new macbook and still keep the stuff that is on my new one..its only about 5 cd's worth.

Okay, for this you will need an external media of sorts which has enough space to hold the library on your PowerBook, and will operate on both the PowerBook and MacBook.
You will also need some time, something to occupy your self, or a cup of coffee whil you wait...depending on how large your PowerBook library is, and the speed of your external media and port connection.
1-Find your iTunes folder on your old PowerBook (should be under /Users/<user>/music)
2-Drag the whole 'iTunes' folder onto the external media, while it's copying that over go to next step.
3-On your new MacBook, open iTunes and go to preferences (Command + ,) and navigate to the 'Advanced' tab
4-Under the advanced tab, make sure the following are selected; 'Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library', and 'Keep iTunes Media folder organized'. Once selected, click 'okay' or 'apply' to close prefs window.
5-Plug your external media, now with your PowerBook iTunes folder on it, into the MacBook and open up the iTunes folder on the external media and highlight 'iTunes Music'.
6-Make sure you have iTunes open on your MacBook for this. Drag the folder 'iTunes Music' from the external media to the iTunes Library pane on your MacBook iTunes. This should initiate the copy process. iTunes will read everything in the folder and copy it over to your MacBook Library.
7-Once the copy has finished, it will process the album artwork (should only take upto a minute), then it should be done!
To make sure it has finished, go to one of the tracks you imported from the PowerBook (now in your MacBook iTunes) and select 'get info' (Command + I). It should have under 'Summary' the location something similar to as follows as the directory '/Users/<user>/music/iTunes/iTunes Music/<artist>/<album>/<trackname>'. If it has something similar to '/Volumes/<external media name>/.../iTunes/iTunes Music/<artist>/<album>/<trackname>', then go back to step 3 and 4, and check those tick boxes are ticked.
Hope this helps. Any other problems, feel free to ask.

  • How can i transfer my music from iphone to itune. currently itune wouldnt allow this as i have also used my ipad? the message i get it says: the iphone is synced with another itunes library. do you want to erasethis iphone and sync with this itune?

an iphone can be synced with one itune library at one time. erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iphone with the contents of this itune library!!
apple..... ypu sale these gadgets which i love but I dont want to earse the music on my iphone i would like to save them into my library, how can i do this? most of the music i have bought and i dont want to loose any of it!!!
    Please someone help me.

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The exception is itunes purchases:  File>Transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your other library/computer, or your backup copy, to your new library/computer

  • Why can't i purchase music from an overseas store

Why can't I purchase music from the US ITunes Store when based in AUS. I can't even find the music I want in searches unless i search overseas.

This has been covered here many times already, but once again: Apple has no choice in the matter. It's due to restrictions placed on Apple by the record companies and other rights holders.  Quoting from This Business of Music (10th Edition) (by M. William Krasilovsky and Sydney Shemel et. al,  Random House LLC 2007) (and thanks to the Mimico Kid for the reference) :
The difficulty of establishing workable business models for digital files (...) extends to where they are sold and where they are played. This is the issue of territoriality, and it is an illustration of how the Internet makes it necessary to reexamine basic assumptions that have been taken for granted (...).
(....) In the music business the primary problem is that copyrights are national and therefore specific rights are tied to national laws and the interpretations of national courts.
(.... T)hough we can one day hope to see the development of common standards with respect to copyright, the fact that the music business is building upon a history of nation-specific contractual relationships means that the goal of universal international standards is not, for the forseeable future, a practical one.
(...) Adding to the difficulty (...) the copyrights themselves may have been assigned to different companies in different territories. The best hope for a cleaner start and a simpler future is worldwide recognition that digital uses are in fact - and should be in law - totally new.
The content owners don't like cross-border sales of CDs either, but there's nothing they can do to stop such sales. They can, though, and do stop cross-border download sales, since if the download stores refuse, the rights holders won't license the tracks to that store.
So unless and until the record companies, et. al,  all get together and agree to allow download stores to sell cross-border, there's absolutely nothing Apple or any other download store can do.

    Hi,
You cannot manually manage music with match turned on on your iOS device. If you want to manage music manually, you will need to turn off match on your iPhone.
