Why can't I change song order?

I have a playlist and I suddenly find I can't change the song order by dragging a song up or down the list. What's the matter? (iTunes 11.0.1)

I found that by selecting the left column (order numbers) I could drag songs into new positions.

That's the normal intended behaviour of the Library. I'm not exactly sure why it is, but I guess it's to make it clear to users that if they want to "fine tune" the tracks they should use a playlist (just like you can't use the burn button in the library).
I'm sure you've noticed that you can still sort the library by clicking the headings.

When I try to change the order of the songs in my playlists, my iPhone continues to put the song back where it started. I can add songs all day long, but I cannot change the order. The other problem I am having is the same iPhone will, instead of moving the song I tap and drag, will move a different song. It is usually one of the songs either above or below the one I tap, but not the one that I see moving when I tap and hold.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I went to my local Verizon store and pre-ordered a new IPad Air 2 (16GIG) on Monday, 10-27-14. The tentative shipping date is 11-14-14. Went home, started dreaming about how much "stuff" I wanted to load on the tablet, and decided I might need more memory. Went back to store on Thursday (10-30-14) and asked my salesman if I could change my order to the 64GIG model. He said the order cannot be changed or cancelled! The item is not even going to ship for another 2 weeks! They have not charged my credit card, nothing has been done on the order - it is just a entry in some computer. I find it hard to believe, in this day and age, that there is not SOME way to delete or change this order. It's not like they would be losing money - I am trying to give them $100 MORE money! Verizon needs to get their act together, and HELP customers rather than frustrate them. This is the kind of ** that drives customers away!

I have already placed another separate order for the 64GB model at the local store, so I now have 2 iPads on pre-order. It would be very helpful if you could cancel the first order. What information do you need to accomplish this?

I bought it, it should be mine to change the name of it if I please. I like to keep single songs together in album made up of my creation and apple have taken that away from me.

I have the same problem. When I click "Get info", everything is grayed out and I'm unable to change track names, artist names, album names, or anything at all. I have iTunes Match if that matters.

If you want to process only a partial quantity, then you have to create delivery only for a partial quantity.
In a transfer order TO you have to pick the entire delivery quantity. Partial picking is not allowed in TO. Quantity field is blank in TO.
For eg if you have 100 items in a sales order, but you want to process only 50 now. So create a delivery for 50 items & process TO. If you create delivery for 100 items, do picking in TO for all the 100 items. Just processing TO for 50 items is not permitted. This means that all quantities in delivery has to be picked to PGI.

No such option for moving song within playlist, only the up and down arrow which moves song from top to bottom list, so if it is #4 from top it will move to #4 from bottom. Stupid I know. I spent over an hour with Apple support, reinstalled itunes, restarted and rebooted computer. Networked with my laptop which is running 10.6.8 and itunes 10.4 and it can drag and drop. The final Apple support solution was to reinstall my operating system. I would prefer not to. Any other ideas?

After looking at other people's posts, I think it's official: there is a bug. Itunes support said I should not have lost the drag/drop tool and I haven't on the laptop that is running itunes 10.4 and operating system 10.6.8. I chatted with someboby who lost both his drag/drop and side scroll and what we have in common is a wacom tablet for a mouse. My laptop is a wireless mouse. I reinstalled whatever updated driver that wacom has out there, shut the system down for night, hoping for magic, but alas none to be had. So if I want to change song order, I network the laptop and desktop, share the screen on the laptop, drag and drop to my heart's content and curse Apple for making me work this hard to find the tool that was once at my fingertips. Apple also let me know that if I want to share songs in household that the hundreds on songs that were purchased for .99 need to be repurchased for another .30. Maybe Apple is holding my drag/drop tool captive til I pay up the money or Maybe the next update will fix the problem, I for one give up for now.

It sounds like you are try to delete the songs by connecting the iPod to other than the computer from which the songs were synced. You can only delete songs synced to an an older iPod (pre iOS 5) by connecting the iPod to its syncing computer and unsync them.

Why can't i purchase songs from "browse" mode?

I suddenly have the same exact problem with both my Macs - MBP 10.6.8 with iTunes 10.7, as well as an old PPC. The button for 'buy" "or "download" or "rent" is no longer functional. I click on the button but nothing happens.
And we're not alone - there are a lot of similar complaints just recently in Apple discussions and other forums in the past few days. It doesn't seem to matter which OS or iTunes version is used, or even if it's a Mac or PC. Apparently its only affecting some. So far, there doesn't seem to be a fix.
Maybe if enough people complain, Apple will find a fix.
Edit: I just saw this temporary fix on another thread that worked for me:
"click on drop-down, add to wish list, and then answer yes to the prompt about "prices may change, do you want to download now" works."

Why can't I change my apple id / email address associated with my apple id ?

My apple id is associated with a gmail address.
I wan't to change it to something else.
So I went to: appleid.apple.com ---> Change apple id ---> Typed in new email address (everything shows green) ---> Hit Save.-->Edit box disappears as if everything went ok ----> But the box showing my apple id, still shows the gmail address!
It still shows my gmail address!! Doesn't send any verification email or anything! No matter what I do, it doesn't let me change it from my gmail address!
It let me change my password though, and also let me change my rescue email address.

And some general advice:
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

iTunes seems to force me to use my c:\ drive as the destination for all backups.
Background: I have set up my c:\ drive only for programs - all data is stored on separate drives - including my iTunes library and all media. So, I can't skinny down the c:\ drive any more without uninstalling programs.
The issue is that my 10,000 rpm, 280 GB - C:\ drive is fast but small and is now FULL after I got about 1/2 way through a 128 GB backup of my ipad. (Yes, all movies have been deleted off of the iPad to minimize the size of the backup.)
I deleted the partial iPad backup, moved all the Mobile Applications to another drive, emptied the recycle bin and tried again with my much smaller iPhone. You guessed it: the io7 update hung and both of my devices are now paper weights.
Which leaves me f*cked, anyone know how I can un-f myself?

iTunes movies are not part of an iDevice backup.
Videos & photos you take with the camera (in the Camera roll) are part of the backup but those should be sync'd to the computer and removed from the camera roll.

Un-sync all your music to remove it from the device, then restart (hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go). Now re-sync your music.
