Why can't I connect with iTunes or apps store? On either iPod, iPad or phone

I don't seem to be able to connect to the iTunes or apps store.....
We have recently bought an iPod for our son....could this affect my account?

1. Make sure internet is working
2. Make sure iPad is using the latest software
3. Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>On
4. Make sure Time Zone is correct
5. Try restart iPad
