Why can't i decline an update on iphone 4s?

i have recieved an update for IOS7 on my 4S. It is to fix a security issue for the 5S and something about Greek. I do not require it. Why can't I decline to download it?

second, this is turning into a kind of nightmare!
i decided to try using my mum's new macbook to use iTunes to update my iPhone. first, it didn't have iTunes installed so i had to install it. now i have done that, and tried to update my iPhone but i just get a message on my mum's computer saying i have the most recent version of 4.2.1 and there will be another update at a certain date (can't remember it.) eh? what's that about? i'm not tech-savvie and am completely flummoxed. i thought i'd update it to a newer version. how can i update my iPhone? all i want to do is get some basic free apps!
also, i hear what you're saying, and it seems the phone must be an iPhone 4 not 4s, but the box etc all say 4s. another weird factor.
i'd really appreciate some help, please.

Checked out that link and everything seems to be in order on this machine at this time.
I only have CC installed on this one machine, not even my secondary machine like is permitted. it seems odd that I'm asked to re-accept the Licence Agreement as often as I am. If I had to guess, it's almost every week, if not multiple times some weeks, that all the software will decide I should have to view the licence agreement.
Edit: I've never had any noticeable "errors" activating or anything like that. I just get asked to do it quite frequently.
This activation screen isn't too annoying (it involves clicking one single button), but like I stated earlier, if I'm trying to launch the software by double-clicking on a PSD, AI, PPROJ, AEP, etc... that file will fail to open.
I feel like that's probably not really a bug, but it is frustrating, since I did launch the application with the intent to edit that specific file I tried to open.
Again, something that you guys may consider working on.
Another annoyance is that: agreeing to the licence agreement is a per-application task, so if I see that Licence Agreement dialogue window by opening Photoshop (for example), I know that every other piece of software I have in the suite (Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, Audition) will be showing me that screen on it's next launch. Probably deliberate for legal purposes that I can't just agree once for the whole suite, but heck, it would save me a lot of minor headaches if it was a unified agreement.

Have you tried logging out of your account by tapping on it in Settings > Store and then logging back in ?
If that doesn't work then you could try closing the App Store app completely and seeing if you can download updates when you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with the App Store 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the App Store app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Another option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

It's not obsolete as much as the first gen simply lacks the power to run the newer operating systems. IT doesn't have enough RAM. If someone managed to hack it to get iOS 6 or 7 on there they'd just have a slow, boggy and unresponsive device. (think putting windows 7 on an old laptop.
Unfortunately software moves faster than hardware. Every thing goes obsolete. I've had my ipad 2 for two and a half years now and I know it only has so much longer left to it too. Just the 'joys' of advancing technology.

Why can't I send emails from my iphone & ipad? Everything worked fine last night, but I updated my software yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been having the same problem with one of several email accounts on one iPad2 and one iPhone5. It has been driving me crazy. I have deleted and reinstalled the email accounts more times than I can count and was ready to throw the device out the window. However I just found a post from another user who stated that they were able to solve this problem by confirming that the outgoing mail server password was corrected. Apparently they found that after an upgrade the old password was retained by the server. I had never checked this because it's a few extra steps to get into the outgoing mail server. When I did I found that it was incorrect. Once changed, I was able to send the email again. Problem solved! Also I agree that the other user was rude in commenting to you the way that he/she did. Why is iOS 8.2 not updating on iPhone 5S? It got the user to Agree to the Terms and Conditions but nothing happens. The user is doing the update via a Wifi connection. Current OS version on the device is 8.1.3. User did a hard reboot of the device and still the same result. Not tried using iTunes as a workaround as we want to know why it's not updating via a Wifi connection. Storage space available is 9G.
If you know of someone who is experiencing the same issue, please let me know the fix. Thank you.

1. I do not know if this will help you or not. In researching this issue with my wife's iPhone 5c 8GB, the most common answer you will get is to adjust this or that setting, and disable this or that App. These at best are only a band-aide solution at all. The best reply I got was from a Verizon Rep that stated "By design, iPhones do turn off WiFi when they go dormant. So if a download is in progress, or information is being back-up wirelessly and the phone goes dormant, it will switch to use cellular data if it is left on". Afterwards, I discovered the exact same information here on the Apple Support Forum to support this statement.
2. Later onward, I read that if you keep your iPhone connected to a power source, it will prevent it from going dormant. In which case, this will prevent the iPhone from turning off the WiFi, and keep it connected to the WiFi. So far, this has help the most in controlling the amount of data usage being used, by my wife's iPhone.

Elitegate. The Whatsapp app is only compatible with iPhones. It will not install on any other device.
However, there are other texting apps like TexpPlus, Viber, Text Free that are compatible with later model iPods.

Hi Drumsing,
As long as you have your iCloud account set up and signed in on both devices, and the Notes checke in iCloud on both devices, there is no reason they should not sync.
Try resetting both devices - Hold down the Hole and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold until the Silver Apple appears. Do that for both, then try Notes again.
P.S., after you write a note, you need to close the App on the device you wrote the note on before you open the app on the other device to see it.....
