Why can't i delete imported photos on my iphone?

I traded in to get an iphone 6. The store imported 3000 photos onto my iphone6.. I want to delete some of them, but there is no delete option.

You can delete your photos by opening an album or collection, touch "Select" in the upper left corner, and choose all the individual photos you want to delete! Early iPhones did not have especially good cameras, so this was not an issue. However, starting with the iPhone 4s, it became clear that iPhones would begin to replace standard point-and-shoot cameras. Space would soon become a problem. You could be on a trip and begin to run out of space and find that any photos you had synced using iTunes (before your trip) could not be deleted. Even if you had an iPad with more storage, you could not delete those older synced photos. Apparently, you were supposed to have brought your Mac or PC on the trip, just so that you could use iTunes To delete synced photos.
I don't understand Apple's rationale for this limitation.
As of this writing, Apple does not provide a tablet that runs iTunes. So it would seem that the only solution is to buy a PC tablet such as Microsoft surface tablet. Only then would you have a full fully portable tablet that would allow you to run the iTunes program to delete old synced photos and make more room on your iPhone.
Of course you can use airdrop to transfer photos from the iPhone camera roll to an iPad and then delete them from your iPhone, but why would you want to get rid of the newer photos on your iPhone rather than the old ones that had been synced before your trip?
SInce Apple does not offer a tablet that runs OS X (and therefore is iTunes capable), this policy would seem to be in advertisement for Microsoft.
Am I missing something?

When the new iCloud Photo Library and its accompanying Photo app for Mac is available, this problem will go away. In the mean time, you have another option. Instead of syncing albums or photos from your photo library onto your device, why not create a shared Photo Stream with the older photos you want to have with you? Those can be deleted as you wish.
Or, as Ralph suggested, if you are planning a trip, remove the excess photos before you leave so you do not run out of room.

It's actually more involved than any of these posts have mentioned. I just found out the hard way to completely delete photos from the iPhone.
Step 1: Back-up your photos to a computer. Make sure that you have any pictures you want to save already downloaded to iPhoto or some other place. I'm not a huge iPhoto fan, but it was the easiest place to put the pictures from photostream and then move them elsewhere on my computer.
Step 2: Turn off photostream. This deletes any pictures from the photostream on the phone or tablet.
Step 3: Plug the iPhone/iPad into any Mac computer and open the Image Capture app. Now select your device and you see that most of the pictures are in there twice. Now select BOTH COPIES of any that you want to delete and press the delete button on the bottom of the window (it's the red circle with a slash through it). DO NOT SELECT ONE COPY AND LEAVE THE OTHER THINKING THAT IT WILL STAY ON THE DEVICE...ask me why I know.
Step 4: Open iTunes and be pleasantly surprised that the 40000 gigs of space spent on photos has dropped to near zero.
Step 5: Like this post to help bump it to the top and help people clear wasted data from their iPhone/iPad.

To answer your questions, yes, they are taking up space. They were synced from the computer via iTunes to the iPhone. Second, to delete them, you have to do what you did to get them on there in reverse. Connect the iPhone to iTunes, select the iPhone, go to the Photos tab in iTunes, then remove the checkmark to sync the photos and then sync again. That will delete them.

- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
- Did it ever work properly?
- Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.

You can only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc directly in the iPad's Photos app.
For photos that were synced from your computer you will need to move/remove/de-select them from where they were synced from on your computer and re-sync - or if you want to delete all synced photos then you might be able to do so by swiping across the 'Photo Library' line in Settings > General > Usage > Photos & Camera (that should give a 'Delete' button, but I haven't tried tapping it to see if it works).

When you enable Photo Stream on your devices, only new photos you take or import to those devices will be automatically added to your Photo Stream. Existing photos won't.

How are you trying to delete photos?
The Trashicon to delete photos should become available, when you select photos in the "recently Added" album or in the Moments in the Photos tab.
To delete synced photos sync your iPhone again with iTunes, with the synced photo albums deselected.

Why can't I delete old photos from my photo stream that were on my MBP (that I wiped and no longer own)?

There are photos still around on my photostream from my macbook pro. I sold (and wiped clean) the computer months ago. The option to delete the photos is greyed out. Why can't I delete some photos on my ipad

So my brother synced all my photos to iPhoto on my Mac and deleted them on my iPad for some reason. I synced the photos back to my iPad. The problem is that those specific photos can't be deleted off my iPad. Someone please help me out with this. I greatly appreciate all suggestions.

Why can't I delete simple photo files even with admin access?

I'm cleaning my Time Capsule HD deleting some photo files. Most of them were just moved to trash, but when I try to move a specific folder, the OS asks my password saying that Finder wants to make changes. After typing in my password I receive a message that I don't have permission to access some of the items. It dosn't make any sense since I, same account tring to delete them, have copied these files into that folder.

Are you trying to delete files from your Time Machine backup? Don't do that!! If you have files/photos you wish to delete then delete them from iPhoto or whatever photo application you are using. They will be removed from the backup by the TimeMachine backup system. Your backup is not a simple file it is a time/event dependent organizational picture of your system sort of like a multilayered transparent collage, but if you start pulling random pieces out it will collapse the file system. Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Why can't I delete music off of my iphone 5?

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to delete music off of my phone. It has all the new updates.
Normally what I do is plug my phone into my macbook and then right click and click delete under the music option. But when I right click there is no delete option at all.
Also, you cannot swipe left to right on your phone and delete it that way either. I've done everything everyone has suggested on here. Is there an actual apple support tech that can help us? I have unwanted songs taking up space. Why is there no delete option at all? That makes no sense!

I've figured it out. Go to the Music tab when you plug your phone in, and scroll all the way down. There should be a section called "Manually Added Songs", and when you highlight a song, there's a "Remove" button that you can use. Good luck!
