Why can't i delete my songs on my iphone?

I just updated to iOS 6 and I use the cloud storage system. Upon updating to the new OS, I can no longer delete the songs I do not want from my iphone. Why is this?

Go to the place on the left where it shows your phone is plugged in. Click on the arrow ro the left, and a drop down menu comes up that lists all your music (like before the new OS5). Select what you don't want, click on delete.

  • Why can't I delete certain songs from my iPhone?

On my iPhone they are songs that synced from my computer that I don't want on my phone too. I was trying to delete them today and most of the songs i didn't want on my phone wouldn't delete and I was wondering if there was a reason for that or a way to get them to delete.

When the new iCloud Photo Library and its accompanying Photo app for Mac is available, this problem will go away. In the mean time, you have another option. Instead of syncing albums or photos from your photo library onto your device, why not create a shared Photo Stream with the older photos you want to have with you? Those can be deleted as you wish.
Or, as Ralph suggested, if you are planning a trip, remove the excess photos before you leave so you do not run out of room.

  • Why can't I delete my songs off of my iPhone from iTunes?

I want to delete a bunch of songs off of my iPhone but it won't let me delete them from Itunes. I know that I can delete them from my phone but when I search them I can't delete them like that; I have to go through roughly 700 songs to look for the 20 or so that I want to actually delete. Why can I delete them from the "Music" list in iTunes but not from "Music" list from my device? I still want them in iTunes, just not on my phone. Help me please!!

I completely agree and am seriously getting off the Apple Mothership.  I've been a loyal fan of mac products but recent updates seem to reduce user functionality.
I also have a Iphone 4 and unable to remove songs from Itunes or my phone.  Since updating to the Lion (which was a total mistake) my Macbook Pro (only a few years old) runs slow and hot.  My phone, wihich was rather reliable freezes.
Mac products used to reign superior to Windows but it's no longer the case.

  • HT5772 Why can't i delete one song in particular?

I have one song that was purchased from itunes by my boyfriend on my Ipad, and i absolutely hate the song and i want to delete it but for some reason I cant delete this song, and its the only one that will not give me the delete option, can someone help? Thanks

It's a bit tricky. Go to the iTunes Store on your computer, select purchased, delete the song from the purchased list by clicking the x button. Now, on your iPad sign out of the iTunes Store and sign back in again. The song should be gone. I had the same problem with a music video.

  • Why can't I delete any songs from my library??

I saw this question was posted but no one had an answer even though it was marked as "solved".
I can't delete any songs from my library whether or not they are starred. None of the songs are on my playlists. When I right click on a song, the delete option is in gray so I can't select it. It's driving me crazy! Please help me! :catmad:

That fixed it. I've had this problem for MONTHS and I couldn't find a work around. This comment made me finally think to just delete the songs on the playlists and that FINALLY removed them from my library. Thanks so much for the heads up!
Hey there, enjoy your Spotify :)

  • Why can't I delete a song(s) out of a playlist?

I'm a PC guy that recently converted to mac. Loving it so far.
In itunes I am having a tough time figuring out how to simply delete a song or video from certain playlist? I've tried hitting "delete" and I've tried hitting the "delete X" button but I'm not sure I'm doing that correctly.
I've tried deleting the actual file and then returning to delete it in itunes but it does nothing other than tell me that the link is invalid.
Am I missing the obvious on this?
    Thanks.

Couple of things, firstly you can delete a file from a playlist or smart playlist by pressing the Option and Delete keys, this will move the file to trash.
If all you want to do is exclude videos from a smart playlist then add a rule:
*Video Kind* is not *music video* (there are options for the other kinds there too)
or alternatively to exclude any videos:
    Kind does not contain video

  • Why can't I delete music off of my iphone 5?

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to delete music off of my phone. It has all the new updates.
Normally what I do is plug my phone into my macbook and then right click and click delete under the music option. But when I right click there is no delete option at all.
Also, you cannot swipe left to right on your phone and delete it that way either. I've done everything everyone has suggested on here. Is there an actual apple support tech that can help us? I have unwanted songs taking up space. Why is there no delete option at all? That makes no sense!

I've figured it out.  Go to the Music tab when you plug your phone in, and scroll all the way down.  There should be a section called "Manually Added Songs", and when you highlight a song, there's a "Remove" button that you can use. Good luck!

  • Why can't I move a song from my iPhone (bought in the iTunes Store) to my PC?

Right, so - I hear a song I like, start up iTunes on my new iPhone 4S, and download it from the store. No problem. Then I get home, connect my phone to my PC and... find that iTunes will not, under any circumstances, allow me to move my newly-purchased song to my hard-drive. I can find the song just fine, under 'Devices', so it's not like iTunes doesn't know it exists. My PC is registered as a 'legal shared platform' or whatever you call it, so there shouldn't be any problems with the DRM.
I even started up my iTune Store Account via the iTunes on my PC, and found the song again. Sure enough, it still remembers that I've bought it. But there's no option to re-download it. And the program simply refuses to move the file from my phone to my hard-drive in any way. Drag-and-drop just gives an 'Ø' sign, copy-and-paste does nothing. I can get iTunes to PLAY the song just fine, but only from my phone.
...the really strange thing is that LAST time I bought a song from the iTunes Store, on my phone, iTunes AUTOMATICALLY downloaded it to my hard-drive as soon as I plugged in my phone. No interaction needed on my part. And now it won't do it no matter how much I ask. Temperamental system...
EDIT: Managed to get it transfered by selecting 'Transfer Purchases' from the right-click menu of the iPhone-icon in iTunes... but I still don't understand why the song refused to sync normally or be moved manually. Meh.

You cannot mve the songs manually from iphone to your computer.
The way you do this is exactly what you did :  File>Transfer Purchases

  • Why can't I delete synced photos from my iPhone?

Early iPhones did not have especially good cameras, so this was not an issue. However, starting with the iPhone 4s, it became clear that iPhones would begin to replace standard point-and-shoot cameras. Space would soon become a problem. You could be on a trip and begin to run out of space and find that any photos you had synced using iTunes (before your trip) could not be deleted. Even if you had an iPad with more storage, you could not delete those older synced photos. Apparently, you were supposed to have brought your Mac or PC on the trip, just so that you could use iTunes To delete synced photos.
I don't understand Apple's rationale for this limitation.
As of this writing, Apple does not provide a tablet that runs iTunes. So it would seem that the only solution is to buy a PC tablet such as Microsoft surface tablet. Only then would you have a full fully portable tablet that would allow you to run the iTunes program to delete old synced photos and make more room on your iPhone.
Of course you can use airdrop to transfer photos from the iPhone camera roll to an iPad and then delete them from your iPhone, but why would you want to get rid of the newer photos on your iPhone rather than the old ones that had been synced before your trip?
SInce Apple does not offer a tablet that runs OS X (and therefore is iTunes capable), this policy would seem to be in advertisement for Microsoft.
    Am I missing something?

  • Why can't I play my song on my iphone

I  bought a song over my Mac from iTunes. I would like to transfer this to my iPhone 4 but nothing happens. Has
This something to do with iCloud or how many devices I have registered. Thanks in advance.

If you don't have automatic downloads enabled, you need to sync the song to your iPhone.

  • Why can't I delete purchased songs in new iOS 5?

Ok, so I downloaded a "free" song, tinkering about with the new iOS 5 installed on a 3G S phone.  I sync'd phone w/Library.  Now...to delete.  Uhm...no go.  I removed from the Library TEN TIMES already.  I get the message warning me that anything on my phone, not in my library will be replaced only with items IN my library...so I continue, because this is what I want...I want it to remove the song from the phone.  Same one I deleted from library.  Nope.  I watch, as it syncs, it says its "applying changes" and it downloads the song FROM THE PHONE back INTO THE LIBRARY?!  O.o  SINCE WHEN?!  So I go search the web.  I read about clicking the manual sync option, the Sync music bit being checked/unchecked, etc., etc., all those options seem to no longer apply with the new iOS 5 behavior.  Maybe it has something to do with iCloud I think, so I turn that off.  Nope.  Still just adds the song BACK TO LIBRARY everytime I delete it and sync again.  Any ideas?
I keep thinking of this scenario:  A child gets a new "i" toy...parents haven't had time to set parental controls before the kid has pumped it full of explicit purchases via his iTunes gift card he got with his new toy.  Not too far-fetched.  So.  Parent's have caught on.  They go to clean up the device...and CANNOT!  o.O  There has to be a way....gogo, tell me what I am missing...

As I'm not sure why that would be happening...

  • Why can't i delete some songs off my 4s Iphone with iso7

I want to detele some songs off my phone but i have tried the tap songs, and then swip and then press delete - as sugguested in the manual

These are probably songs that you have either deleted in iTunes, or deleted from the phone that were synced to the phone at one time. This is how it determines to put the cloud symbol beside them. iTunes Match is that way as well. Of course, if you would have mentioned the cloud earlier, it would have ended earlier too. Glad you got it sorted.

  • Why does itunes match delete all songs from my iPhone leaving me music less in the mountains! :(

i went through a drive through the mountains recently needless to say with out radio, only sourse of music... my precious iphone. well aparently after i had subscribed to itunes match it felt the need to go behind my back and delete all the songs i had previously on my phone! *** apple? i had to do an emergency pull over and yank out my macbook and when i pluged it in sure as could be no music stored on the phone so i was apparently streaming music chewing up a huge chunk of my data in little over two hours!i had to shut off itunes match on the macbook and the iphone and sync again just to get some music!!!
There has to have a solution!! why did it do this? Did anybody else have similiar issues?

I have the same problem and I'm not sure this addresses it.  I want to subscribe to iTunes match using my Mac; the intention being that I can then remove all the subset of my tunes from the ipad mini, and when travelling listen to music on the iPad mini via iTunes Match.
So the question still remains, does the music stored on my iPad mini get automatically removed when i subscribe to iTunes Match, or do I have to remove it??
Also, my iPad mini is showing that 1.8GB of storage is taken up by music at the moment, will all of this be freed if I subscribe to iTunes match and delete the music (irrespective of whether this is done manually or via an automatic delete).
    Thank you
