Why can't I delete some photos from my iPhone?

Photos from my computer somehow got copied onto my phone. First, are those photos taking up space? Secondly, how can I get rid of them? It won't let me delete those particular pics from my phone.

To answer your questions, yes, they are taking up space. They were synced from the computer via iTunes to the iPhone. Second, to delete them, you have to do what you did to get them on there in reverse. Connect the iPhone to iTunes, select the iPhone, go to the Photos tab in iTunes, then remove the checkmark to sync the photos and then sync again. That will delete them.

  • Why can't I delete some photos from my iphone 5c? There is no trash bin at the bottom of some of the photos so what option do I have to delete these photos?

How do I delete photos from iphone 5c? Some photos do not include a trash bin at the bottom of the page. What are my options?

It's actually more involved than any of these posts have mentioned. I just found out the hard way to completely delete photos from the iPhone.
Step 1: Back-up your photos to a computer. Make sure that you have any pictures you want to save already downloaded to iPhoto or some other place. I'm not a huge iPhoto fan, but it was the easiest place to put the pictures from photostream and then move them elsewhere on my computer.
Step 2: Turn off photostream. This deletes any pictures from the photostream on the phone or tablet.
Step 3: Plug the iPhone/iPad into any Mac computer and open the Image Capture app. Now select your device and you see that most of the pictures are in there twice. Now select BOTH COPIES of any that you want to delete and press the delete button on the bottom of the window (it's the red circle with a slash through it). DO NOT SELECT ONE COPY AND LEAVE THE OTHER THINKING THAT IT WILL STAY ON THE DEVICE...ask me why I know.
Step 4: Open iTunes and be pleasantly surprised that the 40000 gigs of space spent on photos has dropped to near zero.
Step 5: Like this post to help bump it to the top and help people clear wasted data from their iPhone/iPad.

  • Why can't I delete synced photos from my iPhone?

Early iPhones did not have especially good cameras, so this was not an issue. However, starting with the iPhone 4s, it became clear that iPhones would begin to replace standard point-and-shoot cameras. Space would soon become a problem. You could be on a trip and begin to run out of space and find that any photos you had synced using iTunes (before your trip) could not be deleted. Even if you had an iPad with more storage, you could not delete those older synced photos. Apparently, you were supposed to have brought your Mac or PC on the trip, just so that you could use iTunes To delete synced photos.
I don't understand Apple's rationale for this limitation.
As of this writing, Apple does not provide a tablet that runs iTunes. So it would seem that the only solution is to buy a PC tablet such as Microsoft surface tablet. Only then would you have a full fully portable tablet that would allow you to run the iTunes program to delete old synced photos and make more room on your iPhone.
Of course you can use airdrop to transfer photos from the iPhone camera roll to an iPad and then delete them from your iPhone, but why would you want to get rid of the newer photos on your iPhone rather than the old ones that had been synced before your trip?
SInce Apple does not offer a tablet that runs OS X (and therefore is iTunes capable), this policy would seem to be in advertisement for Microsoft.
    Am I missing something?

When the new iCloud Photo Library and its accompanying Photo app for Mac is available, this problem will go away. In the mean time, you have another option. Instead of syncing albums or photos from your photo library onto your device, why not create a shared Photo Stream with the older photos you want to have with you? Those can be deleted as you wish.
Or, as Ralph suggested, if you are planning a trip, remove the excess photos before you leave so you do not run out of room.

  • The guides all say when using the iCloud photos are shared across all devices. Why can't I see my photos from my iPhone on my iPad when it settings on both devices the iCloud for photos is on?

The guides all say when using the iCloud photos are shared across all devices. Why can't I see my photos from my iPhone on my iPad when it settings on both devices the iCloud for photos is on?

When you enable Photo Stream on your devices, only new photos you take or import to those devices will be automatically added to your Photo Stream. Existing photos won't.

  • A friend of mine was recently in an accident and we need to delete some photos from her iPhone's "Photo Stream From my Computer" album, but cannot figure out a way to do it (there's no delete button). Help?

A friend of mine was recently in an accident and we need to delete some photos from her iPhone's "Photo Stream From my Computer" album, but cannot figure out a way to do it (there's no delete button). Help?

Sounds like it was synced from her computer using iTunes.  Connect the phone to her computer, open iTunes, click on the name of her phone in iTunes, go to the Photos tab and see if this folder is checked.  If so, unchecking it and syncing will remove them all, or deleting/moving the photos from the folder on her computer and syncing will remove the deleted/moved photos.

  • Why can't i e-mail photos from my iphone 5

I can't e-mail or send text message with photos from my iPhone 5s. What are the solutions to resolve this issue? Thanks.

Text messages use MMS, a feature that mut be enabled by your cellular carrier (may cost extra).  It must also be enabled on your iPhone: Settings > Messages > MMS Messaging = "On".
Emailing photos may well not occur using your cellular data, because the photo may be too big.  Try using WiFi.

  • Why can't I delete old photos from my photo stream that were on my MBP (that I wiped and no longer own)?

There are photos still around on my photostream from my macbook pro. I sold (and wiped clean) the computer months ago. The option to delete the photos is greyed out.  It's not a huge issue, but I have OCD about keeping my photostream cleaned up and there are a multitude of desktop wallpapers and other random things that I can't seem to get rid of. Any ideas? I unregistered my macbook pro when I sold it. Tried logging into icloud.com, iTunes, etc. and there was no photo options in sight.

  • Why can't I delete certain songs from my iPhone?

On my iPhone they are songs that synced from my computer that I don't want on my phone too. I was trying to delete them today and most of the songs i didn't want on my phone wouldn't delete and I was wondering if there was a reason for that or a way to get them to delete.

Sorry to hear about any unwanted photos that made it onto your new device! You can delete your photos by opening an album or collection, touch "Select" in the upper left corner, and choose all the individual photos you want to delete! Just touch the trash can in the lower left corner when you've selected them all. Get more tips and tricks for your new device right here: http://vz.to/1232Iuc

  • Why can't I delete a playlist from my iPhone without it being deleted on my kids iMac?

I consolidated music on my Macbook pro with my family iMac using iTunes Match. What I can't understand is that I can't "turn off" certain playlists. When I deleted some of my daughters' playlists from my iPhone, it removed the playlist from the iMac. Am I missing something? I had over 100 playlists  listed, many of which I will never use. I can't imagine that Match isn't more versitile.

Now that you mention it, my parents don't need to see my playlists, either.  Hadn't thought of that.
I accidently stumbled on an "ad-hoc" workaround that helped me.   The downside is that it only works with smart playlists so it may or may not work for you.  But here it is anyway:
Smart playlists will not be uploaded to the cloud if they refeence another playlist on the cloud.  So I created a "catch-all" smart playlist and added a reference to that in all the smart playlists I don't want to share.
I also noticed that playlists with more than just music are not uploaded.  You could add a short video or something to the playlists that are only for the iMac.  This obviously won't work if your daughter needs them on her iDevice.
I know these aren't good solutions, but I hope they help someone.
    Cheers,

  • Why can't i get my photos from my iphone to my computer

Does anyone know how I can get my iPhone 4S photos into iPhoto? I'm on 6.0 (10A403) version iPhone and I have a Mac.  I've read the how to's but there are no photos even after I select my device.
    Thanks!

You could try using an app like PhotoSync to send them wirelessly to your computer.

  • TS3989 Only some of the photos I have taken on my iPhone appear in the photo stream on my iPad even thou they were taken at the same time. Why is this and how can I import the other photos from my iPhone to my iPad?

Only some of the photos I have taken on my iPhone appear in the photo stream on my iPad even thou they were taken at the same time. Why is this and how can I import the other photos from my iPhone to my iPad?

If older photos are missing it may be because photo stream photos are only held in iCloud for 30 days.  After that they are removed from iCloud but will remain (up to 1000 photos) on your device until deleted.  Also, only photos taken after enabling photo stream are added to your photo stream, and only when the camera is closed, your device is connected to wifi and you have at least 20% battery life remaining.
To transfer the missing photos you can either create a shared photo stream containing them and invite yourself to it (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmc0cd7e99), import the photos to your computer and sync them to your iPad, or use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to your iPad over wifi.

I was trying to free up icloud storage in order to back up my iphone 5 using my ipad.  I mistakenly deleted some photos from my camera roll and they were deleted from both iphone and ipad photo albums.  Can I retrieve them somehow or are they gone forever?  Now I read that doesn't help to free up space...not sure what does free up space so I can back up my phone again.  Help!

Are you sure you deleted them from your camera roll and not from photo stream.
