Why can't I display on my projector?

My projector that I just bought has VGA input, and A/V input cables. I was trying to figure out a way to go from my mini displayport to VGA. I had a mini displayport to HDMI converter on hand, so I bought an HDMI to VGA cord. When I put it all together nothing happens. Why doesn't this setup work? What setup can I do that will work?

HDMI uses a digital signal whilst VGA is analogue, so I don't think that's going to work without buying some extra digital to analogue converter.
You're best buying a mini displayport to vga adapter instead of joining 2 adapters together.
The official apple one is about £20 but I bought one from amazon for about £5.
I haven't used it to connect to a projector but it works fine in OS X connecting to a VGA monitor.

Why can't Preview display pdf 1.5 files correctly ? A bug ?

I have been trying to figure out why Preview and Safari have a problem with some PDF files. The problem is that some text is not shown in the correct font. Text which should be in bold, italic or bold italic serif font (e.g. Times New Roman) is being shown in plain sans serif (e.g. Arial regular).
I have found that the PDF files causing problems were created in Acrobat/PDF 1.5 format. Files created with PDF 1.4 or earlier seem fine. The software used to create the file doesn't seem to make any difference. I have tested files created with Distiller, MS Office etc. and the only consistent feature of problem files is PDF 1.5.
The problem affects printing from Preview as well.
Acrobat Reader (v10.0.2) is displaying and printing these files with no problems !
Has anyone else found this ? Is this a bug in OS X ?

It is not that uncommon to have to use Adobe Reader for some pdf files instead of Preview, their capabilities are just not identical.

Why can't safari display pdf files?

I recently updated Safari to 5.1 and Adobe Reader to 10.1.1. on OS X10.6.8. Now Safari just shows me a flat gray screen when I browse to a location that's a pdf file. Can't say which of the two updates actually broke the function. Used to work, although it's broken like this before. Adobe web site recognizes the general problem and says go to Adobe Help/Repair... but that doens't seem to exist in the current version. Also says to delete Reader and reinstall if the first didn't work, but neigher of those had any effect. Some other references to the same or similar problems in here but I didn't see any useful suggestions.
I can successfully open the pages in question with Chrome, so it's not the source.

for most pdf's & the way they're served up - the built-in pdf support works fine.
a few will require adobe reader to display correcttly or allow form filling - and for safari 5.1, that measn download & open in Reader.
pdf's within a page using embed or object or iframe seem not to display with the built-in support, and for those, the schubertit plugin apparently works ok.
if you link to a problem pdf & say which OS X & safari version, + remove any pdf plugins for now - we can hopefully see what's going on.

Why can't I display content from more than one domain in my web app? Is there a workaround?

I'm trying to display 2 datasources in different views of my web app, an rss from twitter, and an rss from wordpress, but for some reason dashcode doesn't allow this. Is there code that can fix this? A source paramater change code (shown below) is provided in dashcode, but I don't know how to implement this, or if it will even solve the problem. Can anyone help?

When firefox crashes from a memory leak why can't you display the offending tab? Enhancement: a task manager like tab manager showing usage per tab / extension.

I typically keep many windows with several tabs open. It is possible that this causes more crashes since the number of pages multiplies any effect most users with less pages/tabs would experience. I have been having problems with Firefox crashing Using the windows task manager I have looked into this issue monitoring lots of variables. Bottom line the crash is caused by increasing memory usage possibly caused by the flash add on which is doing many IO reads on at least one offending page/tab. Could some sites be using flash to read from my disk without permission and there is a memory leak in either flash of the code the sites uses? I have searched the web for a task manager like add-on for Firefox tabs that would allow me to determine the offending page/tab/add-on/extension. It seems like a great idea which has not been implemented. Since I am a developer I would be happy to implement, but would like some guidance since my knowledge of your product is only at the user level.

Why can't I display the full Firfox web page?

I have unwittingly loaded several toolbars ie: ooVoo, mywebsearch etc which has altered my Firefox start up page and I cann't get the usual buttons - view - bookmarks etc. What can I do to get rid of these other toolbars.

Firefox 3.6+ versions have a feature to allow the user to hide the Menu bar.
Hit the '''Alt''' key to temporarily show the Menu bar, then open View > Toolbars and select Menu bar, so it has a check-mark. <br />
Use that View > Toolbars item to un-check those other Toolbars to hide them. <br />
The F10 can also be used on most PC's to temporarily reveal the Menu bar.

Why can't I display members of a contact group on my iPhone with IOS 6

Just discovered that I cannot display members of a group on my iPhone 4s running IOS 6.
When I tap on a group, I just get a check mark or erase the check mark by the group. The group will not expand to display the members of that group.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
JUST FOUND THE ANSWER!
You have to de-select the All Contacts group (get rid of the check mark), select the group you want to display (check mark shows), then tap done and the group selected will display.

Calendar: why can't I get time 30.03.2003 02:00:00?

Why can't I display the date/time 30.03.2003 02:00:00?? See code example below. When I put these values in Calendar the system displays "Sun March 30 01:00:00 CEST 2003. The date is correct but time is wrong. Hour 02 is skipped and hour 01 is displayed!
At this date and time DST (daylightsavingtime) starts in many countries.
Manybe it has something to do with DST?
However, DST starts at 03:00:00 i Greece/Athens at 30.03.2003 and this date/time is displayed correctly!

Did you check the time zone in the configuration of the PC?

I am trying to project Pro Presenter on the Epson projector such that I have the detail screen on the macbook and only the screen I want people to see on the projector display. This has not been possible because the arrangement tab on the Display section of the System Preference is not showing. If i tried to search for the arangement, it comes back with the message that there is not other source detected, hence the arrangement tab is not showing.
I have also tried to connect the Epson directly to the Macbook but it still the same result, so its not because it is a wireless connection. Can someone advise me jhow to go around this problem. I have used windows before and it is very easy to extend ptojection on windows, but this system seems to be frustrating to me.

Why can't I get a DVD to play through a projector via my SuperDrive?

I have a brand new MacBook Air 13" with an external superdrive connected. I connect an external Epson projector to display my screen up on the wall. When I insert my DVD in the Superdrive I can run it on my MBA screen no problem but it will not project through the Epson. All I get is a gray and white checkered pattern on the wall.
I can use my son's new MacBook Pro and Epson and project the DVD just fine.
This is a training DVD that I need to run for classes I teach and need to be able to use the SuperDrive and my MacBook Air. What's up?

How are you connecting your projector (Thunderbolt, RCA, S-Video, HDMI?)
In System Preferences:Display does the projector show up and have a profile? It should. You may have to change the resolution/refresh rate (signal) of that profile in order to get the video to show up. Depending on your connector you might not be able to choose a compatible resolution and refresh rate (Study the information included with your projector) . . . in that case you might need to use a different adaptor/connection.

same as long as I don't stop the device via the
little green arrow icon (USB manager) down by the

I never really need to use the Ipod when it is hooked
into the PC because everything is done through
iTunes. I just thought it said "do not disconnect"
because it was associated with both iTunes and the PC
as a hard disk.
If I stop the device or "eject" the iPod, it goes
from do not disconnect to the normal menu tree.
So when you take the USB cable out of the iPod, it goes back to normal?
If that's what you mean, mine does that too.
It's just that I read that if you remove the USB cable from your iPod while it says 'do not disconnect', it can wipe all your music....

In Finder, why can't my subfolder names display beneath the main Folder?

Does Mac even use the term "Directories"? I think it's just folders.
In Finder I have a Folder named 2013 in which I have all of my photos taken in 2013. I create a subfolder under 2013 called "Ausable Trip". The problem is I can't see that subfolder. I should be able to see a list of subfolders under my main folder but that doesn't work. Very frustrating. Why doesn't Finder display folders this way:

   Rog Photos
      2010
     2011
     2012
     2013
        Ausable Trip
        DC Trip
        Houston Trip

But it does. Here's an example. The root-level Library folder, in list view. Post a screenshoe of your pictures folder in list view.

Why can't we have superdrive and retina display and HDMI in one macbook pro?

Its good to have a lighter macbook pro for those who don't need the superdrive....BUT, What about those (like myself) who desperately want a superdrive in their macbook pro and also the retina display!! And, Why can't we have a regular HDMI in macbook pro with a superdrive....this is so frustrating! Whats wrong with apple!

No need, as long as Apple continues to offer a notebook line-up that includes built-in optical drives, to buy a Windows machine... yet.
As I said, the only thing that I use my SuperDrive for now is backups of all those digital software deliveries, documents, etc. If I finally break down and buy an external Blu-ray drive, I won't use the SuperDrive at all. But right now I have almost 12 years of back-ups on DVD, both single and dual layer - so, for now, I need my optical drive.
I'm hoping that - one day - Apple will sell MacBook Pros with Blu-ray drives. Hey, I can wish, right?

Why the jsp page can not be displayed every time?

I created a jsp page which accesses the data from the oracle database and generates some dynamic results at run time. Most of the time the page works well, but randomly the page can not be displayed. It seems not an application issue. Can someone tell me what's the problem there?
