Why can't I do file sharing between Macintoshes ?

Why can't I do file sharing between two Macintoshes ?
I have 2 Macs in the same room.   Both are connected to the same router (wired, not wifi), I have verified their connection by going to the Internet successfully on both machines.
I have disabled all security functions I am aware of. I turned off firewall, turned on file sharing, allowed all users for file sharing.
Yet, when I tried to connect to the other Mac permission is denied. I'm told to contact the network administrator, (that's me).   Both machines are running OS 10.9.5.
Strangely, I was able to do “screen sharing” which doesn't solve my problem.
I just want to move files from one Mac to the other.
Is there something I'm missing here?

(Yosemite falsely identifies iMovie HD 06 as not compatible.)
Actually, it is by design; according to their Engineers, they have coded iMovie HD 06 not to launch - that is what I was told after submitting my bug report. So, it still works in Mavericks, but that is as far as it'll go.

  • Can I create a wireless LAN and file sharing between two household Macs?

I've got an iMac G5 running 10.4.11 and an Intel iMac running 10.5 and was wondering if I create a wireless Local Area Network and file sharing between my two household Macs?

I have a network set up for my mom using an old blue iMac with an airport card as the base station. I'm using Tiger on the machine, but you should be able to do this on Leopard, too. She's 700 miles away, and I did it quite a while ago, but it seems I set everything up using the Airport Utility. At one point I think I had Internet Sharing on, too, but I don't remember if that's still on. Haven't needed to use file sharing on the network, but my G4 and her boyfriends MacPro happily use the network via Airport. I'm guessing you could share files that way. If it doesn't work, an Airport Express is a less expensive option for the router, at least cheaper than an Extreme.

  • File Sharing between 2 macs

I am trying to enable file sharing between my new iMac and my (2007) model Macbook Pro. I am succesfully able to share files from the old mac to the new one, as I can connect via the macbook,  but when I try and connect from the new Mac it "fails".   Everything is set up in System Preferences ok (I think) and I have restarted both macs, but still not conecting via the new mac. Any ideas on why this is happening?

  • File Sharing between macbook pro and imac

    Hello,
I'm having trouble with file sharing between my bankbook pro and my new iMac. I want to share some photos on my iPhoto library from my macbook pro and transfer them to my iMac. I've turned on file sharing and tried connecting, entered in my username and password, but it won't connect. I've tried several times with the correct username and password combination, and the box just shakes and denies entry. I've even tried connecting as a guest user and it says "access is denied, contact system administrator." Can anyone help? I've upgraded to Yosemite on both computers.
    Thanks in advance.

I've done everything that you've recommended, however, I am still having trouble sharing files between my macbook and iMac. I even tried using airdrop to transfer files, but nothing seems to be working. I've made sure the firewall options are what they're supposed to be and everything. Whenever I try to login as administrator to file share, it won't accept my password. I don't know why airdrop isn't working either.

  • Windows 8.1 ICS with file sharing between computers

Can someone help me get ICS working with file sharing between two computers (directly connected), without enabling file sharing on the internet network (on a public untrusted network)?  Is this possible?  I have set up ICS between two Windows 8.1
machines, but i can only get file sharing to work in one direction (from machine B to machine A)... UNLESS I turn on file sharing/discovery with the entire network from machine A (which i do not want to do).  I am not sure this exact question has been
asked, so my apologies if it has.
    Here is my configuration.
Machine A: win 8.1 (up to date), two NICs:  a wireless card (connected to internet) and a gigabit NIC (connected to machine B)
Machine B: win 8.1 (up to date), one NIC, a gigabit card connected to machine A
    What i did:
On Machine A:  I enabled ICS on machine A's wireless card, which automatically assigned the IP address 192.168.137.1 to the second NIC
On Machine B:DHCP was enabled so it automatically got an ip address (192.168.137.62), internet sharing works fine (i can open a browser, get email, etc.)
On Machine B: I enabled "Find devices and content" on the network device
On Machine A: Going into "view network settings" it lists my wireless network and the gigabit NIC.  The wireless under 'Wi-Fi' says 'Connected', and i can click on this and I have the option to turn on "Find devices and content".
On the wifi connection, i leave 'Find devices and content' turned OFF (so i don't discover computers on the wireless network, which is a public network).  My gigabit NIC shows up as "unidentified network"/"Limited".
When i click on the gigabit NIC, it does NOT give me an option to turn on "Find devices and content", it just shows some properties of the NIC (manufacturer, description, driver, mac address) and button that says "Copy".  On
the gigabit connection's properties (which is listed as "unidentified network/limited"), the option for 'Find devices and content' is missing.
On Machine A: I open a file browser and type '\\192.168.137.62' and it works correctly, i can see the computer and move files around.
On Machine B: It doesn't work.  I open a file browser and type in "\\192.168.137.1", and nothing happens.
If i enable 'Find devices and content' on machine A's wifi connection, everything works, but now everyone on the public network can see my computer.
Question:  How can i enable file sharing between machine A and machine B ONLY?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

The whole point of public networks is that they are unsafe, so file sharing is not permitted for your protection.
If you have a network which you know is safe, the way to get file sharing working is to change your security policy so that it is set to private, not public. You do this from the local security policy (on the ICS computer).

  • File Sharing between Windows PC and MacBook Pro using Internet Sharing

I have a MacBook Pro and a Dell Latitude D820 running Windows XP SP2 and I want to connect both using any of these two options. I do not have a wireless router and I use Sprint 3G data card to access internet.
    1) I access the internet using a EVDO data card on my MAC and use Internet sharing to access the internet on my Dell laptop. How do I access the files on my PC from my MAC?
    2) I can have two EVDO data cards to access the MAC and PC independently. How can I setup file sharing between Windows laptop and MAC?

  • Any issues with file sharing between Windows and latest Mac client?

We're running Lync 2013. My Windows client is 15.0.4551.1005. Mac client is version 14.0.8.
I open a conversation with a coworker on his Mac. I then try to share a png file. He clicks accept but then my client says the attempt timed out, and his client says that I canceled the file transfer. The coworker then boots the Mac into Windows and we try
again, and the file share works fine. When I jump on my Mac, I can send files to his Mac without issue. When he tries to send from his Mac to my PC it fails, but when he tries to send from Windows on his Mac to my PC, it works.
I can't find anything specific in the logs that would indicate a firewall issue. Is there a bug with file sharing between the Mac and PC clients?
    Thanks,
    Matt

No, There isn't a bug with file sharing between Mac and Pc client.

  • Wireless file sharing between two MacBooks

I feel like this is kind of a silly question, but here goes:
Is it possible to set up wireless file sharing between two macs when there is no wireless network available.
For example, if I am on a plane (with no wi-fi) and wan to wirelessely connect to my partners macbook to browse his hard drive, can I do it? Right now, I use a firewire cable when flying, but would love to not have to.
    Thanks for the help.

    Yes, it's possible to do.
You setup one of the Macs to act as a base station of sorts. If you've got the AirPort Status menu shown you can just use the 'Create Network…' option in that menu to create a new wireless network hosted on this Mac. Just tell the other Mac to connect to that network using the name and security credentials you specified when you created the network, and you're done.

  • Air Drop and File Sharing Between Macs Please HELP

I have a 2011 Mac Book Pro running Mavericks and a 2010 Mac Pro running mountain lion and I am having trouble air Dropping and file sharing between them.
My MBP works fine. It can see other macs and share with them on my home network. My MP on the other hand cant see any other computers under the shared devices location in my finder. I have turned on file sharing for my MP as well as screen sharing. Neither works. My Mp used to be able to Air Drop and File share.
When I try to Air Drop to my MP it wont receive the item.
Has someone been through this before and know how to fix the issue? Ive been trying to research this for a while and haven't been able to find a solution.
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks

Are you using a frieWall on individual Macs?
If you are using a Router you control, individual computer FireWalls are not needed.

To view your media, you open the app that you use to manage that type of media." this on the other hand was zero help
What you did doesn't show the Media Browser. It just shows the folders where your media is stored. You may be correct that was all that cobacc wanted.
The Media Browser shows the actual media in thumbnails so that you can preview the media.
However, neither requires any Sharing services to be enabled.

  • File sharing between iMac Leopard and Vista Laptop!

ok this is my thing, i have an imac (leopard) that is connected wirelesslly and a laptop (vista home premium) that is also connected wirelessly to the same network. im trying to share files between the both so i don't have to use a hard drive every time i want to transfer files from one to the other. what is the process of setting this type of file sharing between the two machines? all wirelessly of course!

Because the iMac and XP are talking, it sound like a Vista sharing thing and the only other help I can offer is to look at these Google Search's:

  • Each App its files only... no files shared between Apps

Subject: each App its files only... no files shared between Apps in some space in device like Android
with iPad 3 or (future) iPad 4 I have the ability add files to device (eg PDFs) and with any pdf app choose that files (or for each App....I must upload to device its particular pdf files used only by this App?)?

It will likely always remain this way. The 'sandbox' nature of the iDevices is what renders them more virus resistent than other devices. They have no over all 'my computer' or 'finder' upper level file management system, so any malware or virus that gets on the device can be contained. Since files can only move from app to app with your direction, malicious software can't propogate itself and spread without you helping it to spread.
There are many apps that support the 'send to' feature that allows you to move documents between apps. And there are also some apps like ReaddleDocs that can serve as an intermediary between other apps, but the prospect of an overall 'whole system file manager' is unlikely.

  • File sharing between Macbook and iPhone 5s? AirDrop or bluetooth

Just purchased my first Macbook ever! I'm catching on quickly however I've run into a snag with file sharing between my other Apple devices.
How can I pair and send files between my MBA and iPhone 5s?
I've made the change in system preferences to allow file sharing, yet still pops up on my iPhone that my MBA doesn't support this.
Also I've enabled Airdrop on both devices yet I can't seem to get that to work as well. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I would love to be able to easily send pictures or documents from my MBA to my iPhone 5s via Airdrop and vice versa.
    Thanks in advance

Regarding AirDrop, note the quotation below from: iOS: Use AirDrop to wirelessly share content
You can't use AirDrop on iOS to share with OS X users, and OS X users can't use AirDrop to share with iOS devices.
The iPhone has limited bluetooth profiles and the only supportde connection between an iPhone and a computer is for tethering (sharing the iPhones cellular data connection). iOS: Supported Bluetooth profiles
