Why can't i download new versions of itunes on my PC?

I can see from the amount of discussion on the net that this is a major problem and I have tried all the suggestions I can find (delete cookies, download Quicktime separately etc) but I am starting to get very frustrated as I can't get any music on my (now) 3 month old ipod. Plus I have just bought my son a touch and he can't figure it out either.
Any suggestions?

I states that I am missing essential files in order to install. It doesn't say which ones.
Tried to uninstall the old iTunes so now I'm caught without iTunes.

I have iTunes 11.0.2.26.
I just bought two HD movies from the iTunes store. I have a 160 GB iPod Classic, and I want to upload the movies to my iPod. I know you ahve to go to File>Create New Version>Create iPod or iPhone Version, but those options are grayed out on my computer. I have already done this once with iTunes 10 and a different movie, but now iTunes will not let me do it. Does anybody know why and what I need to do to be able to convert this? Thanks in advance.

Found the answer at the link below. This is the dumbest process, but at least you can redownlad your movies in SD in order to sync them on your phone or iPod. Hope this helps someone else...

Are you running any of Symantec's (Norton) or McAfee's Internet security products or anything similar, or an antivirus/antispyware application? There have been reports that some such utilities treat an upgrade to iTunes as a new application and can block the application from connecting. So you have to go in and reset the utility to allow iTunes. The same thing can happen if you upgrade the security product (this has particularly been a problem with recent McAfee upgrades).
Check the settings for your utility. If iTunes is still listed, remove and re-enable the exception for iTunes. Consult your utility's documentation for the appropriate procedure; you can find instructions for Norton on Symantec's web page for iTunes. You may also need to check the built-in Windows firewall as well.

I upragded my iPod, but now I can't install a new version of iTunes. Always when I'm trying to install it, it says I should write somekind of iTunes.msi path. So what should I do?

msi problems can usually be fixed with the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility.
Unfortunately the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility has been with drawn by Microsoft because of compatibility issues with Microsoft Office so you will need to find a copy elsewhere – the installer is msicuu2.exe. You need version 3.

Check for malware before installing it.
After installing, To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install
If you get permission denied error, Try Run as Administrator – an option if you right click on the program.
Use the Cleanup Utility to remove any instances of the problem program, i.e. iTunes.
Then try installing itunes.

i have a new iTiouch and can't load the new version of iTunes. it downloaded fine but said installation failed because the "older version of apple software update" or something like that. so, i uninstalled and deleted (or thought i did) all the itunes programs i could find and still get the same error message. i can download but can't install the 9.0.2 iTunes because for some reason it thinks i still have an old version of iTunes. How can i get rid of the old version? thought i got rid of it all. i did a search for all files relating to itunes and apple and deleted them but some how it still thinks i have an "old version". i need the new version installed so i can use my new itouch. Downloaded new version of itunes, and then subsequently performed a sync on my ipod nano as I had purchased a new song from itunes store. I now only have 25 songs on my ipod as it removed all of my other music. My music is stored on an external drive. I downloaded the music there from cd's that I own. Can anyone help me fix this. I am going on holidays soon and want to have my ipod loaded with music for the trip. Thanks

First of all, your music is not gone. Its there, I promise. Second of all, you need to always make sure you backup your music elsewhere because funky things happen and computers do take nosedives.
Ok, go into File on the iTunes Task bar and click on add folder to library. Your music files should be under my documents>my music. Let me know how it goes...

It seems odd that you can log onto TVNZ TV on demand and watch programmes directly on your computer and yet they won't let them be channelled through the Apple TV.
The Apple TV would be more use if it could access TVNZ [ say ] and play the episodes from there instead of having to go through iTunes.
I am a bit cross that Apple market the Apple TV with what it can do in US and yet it wasn't made clear that in New Zealand it is a virtually useless piece of kit.
I have been buying Apple products since 1985 and this is the first time I have been dissatisfied.
Having said that it may not be the fault of the product !! Just the country in which I am trying to use it.
That is another oddity in that New Zealand prides itself in being a World Leader in EFTPOS and internet banking and yet is so abysmal at entertainment sharing !
A very compliant nation where having fun is frowned upon !
