Why can't i download the iOS on my ipod touch?

Ok well I just bought an iPod and gave my other iPod to my son and im trying to plug the old ipod into a different computer to download songs and games and its saying that the ipod needs an update does anyone know the update i need because i cant find the iOS update on the itunes store

Probably because yu have a 1G iPod that can only go as high as 3.1.3. To identify your iPod:

I've bought my ipod Touch on USA and brought it to Peru, the country where i live. So far i haven't had any problems with that except that some apps are unavailable here. But my big problem came when i wanted to download the new iOS.
Settings->General->Upgrades->Download iOS 6
The process is ok while downloading, even the instalation is ok, but when it's about to finish it send me and error message with 2 options: Close/Setting. I've tried 4 times and got the same results.
If the problem is my location, please let me know ASAP.

First off, you don't have a 5th generation iPod Touch. I'd bet you have a white 4th generation.
Any way, what is the exact error message you are getting?
Could it be a log in screen to http://www.apple.com ?
If it is, the problem is on Apple's end.

If you have an iPod Touch 2, iOS 4.2.1 is the last iOS supported on that device.
You will not be able to add newer iOS apps, but you still can choose from well over 60,000 vintage iOS apps.

Why can't I update the software on my ipod touch?

I have iOS 2.2 on my iPod Touch first generation and I can't update it. It says that iTunes cannot connect to the software updater driver of the iPod.I've tried everything I could think of and before and bring it to the Apple store for service or repair is there any other options or possibilities somehow to update the software on the iPod doing it by myself without going to the Apple store?
P.S. It shows me: An unknown error has occured (-1)

The 1G can only go to 3.1.3 by:

You have to update via iTunes.
iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
Error 1 or -1
This may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues, and restore your device on a different known-good computer. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
The "device may need service" means a hardware problem. In that case make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Why can't I download the songs from my ipod to my compute

I'm getting insanely frustrated right now. I got an ipod about a month ago and was ecstatic. I could finally get the 12 gb of music off my computer (all songs I've taken the time to copy from my own legal cds) and onto my ipod. So I got the new itunes and I copied copied all the files to my library and then from there onto my ipod.
I then made sure they all played on the ipod and once they did I made sure that itunes was set to manually manage songs and then removed them from my library clearing my hard drive of them.
Then my ipod starts having issues, it will just randomly restart for no apparent reason, so I take it in to the apple store and they just want to restore it which will wipe all my music. So I say uhm no, can I please back it up first and they say they don't support that.
What the heck is going on here, why does it make any sense to have to leave the music on teh computer?!? It's a portable music device!
I found there are programs that will copy the files back but they cost money which makes no sense. Basically Apple has hijacked my songs and won't give them back.
I'd email them directly about the issue but I can't find any sign of an email link anywhere on teh webpage.
Any help would be much appreciated and please forgive the rant but I'm really getting sick of my ipod restating constantly.

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod to discourage it's use as a device for mass file sharing. However there is a manual (free) method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes

Why can't I download the latest iTunes to my mac which is a 10.5.8

I have got myself in a real mess, I installed the new iOS 7 onto my iPad and I don't like it so I imported all my new photos to my mac, then I reset all my settings on my iPad thinking that it would go back to the original settings but alas didn't work.
Then I thought I would put up with it but now I cannot put my photos etc back onto the iPad because my mac needs the version of iTunes but when I try to install the new version I get a messy come up that iTunes cannot install this new version on my mac which is a 10.5.8.

Put simply, the minimum system requirements for iTunes have changed. You need a Mac running at least OS X 10.6.8.
It's best you look online to see if your model of Mac can be upgraded to at least 10.6.8 "Snow Leopard". It should still be possible to order a copy of Snow Leopard if so.

Been having that problem myself. Just click on this link http://www.apple.com/uk/itunes/ and download it from there. It worked for me. Hope this helps.

Are you logged in with the same account that was used to activate the phone ? If you are, and the apps aren't showing as free, then try logging out of your account by tapping on it at the botto of the Featured tab in the App Store app and then log back in and see if they then show as free.
