Why can't I email photos from iPhoto?

I cannot email photos from iPhoto. I get an error message that says " the email server cannot send this because of an incorrect user name and password". I have version 9.4.3 of iPhoto and O/S - OSX 10.8.3

In the iPhoto preferences delete and re-enter the account
Or
IMHO the better solution is to use Mail. Set it as the email client in the iPhoto preferences

  • Why can't I email photos from iPhoto as described in the video?

I have iPhoto 9.3.2 on my MacBook Pro.  I have watched to video on how to email photos several times.  After selecting the photos to email, the photos appear in the email message but not as described in the video.  Instead of showing up in a pattern that can be rearranged (or changed) as described, they show up in a column on the left side, can only be moved from the column into a row, can't have text typed under them, and can't be resized.  I haven't been able to find any solutions to the problems.  Does anyone have any ideas?
    Many thanks,
    Jan LKL

Thank you for your reply.  I do appreciate it.
There is a 2 minute video in the iPhoto help menu that describes how to email photos.  I'm using my iCloud email address.
I might also add that the first time I went through the process, at least some of what the video described would happen did take place.  It was after I attempted to select a different arrangement of the photos in the email message, which the video said was an option, that the process changed permanently, even after I deleted the account and started all over again.  That menu of patterns, which appeared in a right side bar, has never appeared again.  Every time I click and drag photos, they end up in a column on the left.  I can drag them into a horizontal row if I want.  I can put space between them only by using the space bar as if I were typing.  They can't be rearranged any other way or resized at all.  I've even tried opening a new email message directly from my email account, bypassing iPhoto's Share feature altogether, and dragging the photos onto the message but the result is the same.  I have watched this video a few times, referring back to it at each step to make sure I didn't miss anything.  I still can't figure out where the problem begins.

Why can't I email photos from my iPhone 4S? It goes through the motions, select photo, recipient, file size but nothing is received.

Are you sending an email using a return address of, say @xxx.com" but using an outgoing server from a @yyy.com service?  If so, this is known as relaying.  Many servers now reject such emails, as this method is often used by spammers.  Depending on your email provider, you may be able to get around that by going into the settings for that email account and finding a place where you can enter a valid @yyy.com address along with a password.  (You'll have to hunt around the settings to find this, IF the account allows for that.)
Example:  A non-icloud exchange account:  Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars - In the Accounts section, tap the account in question (e.x. yyy.com), tap the Account name, fill in the Username and password in the section that also includes "Domain    Optional"  where optional is in gray.
Example:  For icloud, Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars - In the Accounts section, tap the icloud account, Tap (in Advanced), "Mail" then indicate emails you want to use in "Allow Sending From".
Doing so lets you continue using a return address of @xxx.com, but the server also gets the valid address and password for its service and forwards the email as it should.

  • Why can't I email photos from a folder?

    Hi,
Does a mac force me to email photos from iphoto? I just want to click on a photo in a folder -- any folder -- and email it. Am I missing something, because it seems you have to import everything into iphotos -- a real pain.
Also if I import into iphoto, does that mean there's a second copy of my photo somewhere -- one in the original folder and one in iphoto?
Thanks for any help -- just recently crossed over to macs from the evil dark side.

    Hi betamac,
No, a mac doesn't force you to email photos from iPhoto. If you use iPhoto to import and organize your photos, it is easy to select a photo within iPhoto and hit the email icon to attach the photo.
Within your email program you can drag a photo in the message body to attach it or hit the "attach" button and navigate to the photo to attach it.
With iPhoto 5 all photos imported into iPhoto are copied in iPhoto's database, which is the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder. So, yes, you know have two copies of each photo if the photos were imported from another folder already on your computer.
iPhoto 6 gives you the choice of copying into iPhoto or having iPhoto use your own folder hierarchy.
    More info:
--First thing to know and remember is this...Do not drag any images, folder of images into the iPhoto Library in the Finder. Images have to be imported into iPhoto within the application. Do not scan images and save them into the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder. Save them to another location such as the Pictures folder or even the desktop. You can then import them into iPhoto.
If you have already put files/folders in the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder then you will also find out that if you try to import them into iPhoto you will get an error message. No worry, just drag them to the desktop and import from there.
--All images that you import are shown in the library view. You can choose how you want to view, by rolls, by date, by rating, etc. When you put images in an Album, slideshow, book, etc, you are actually just putting pointers to those images in the library. You are not adding more images. If you delete an image from the Album it will still be in the library. If you delete an image from the library it is deleted from iPhoto's database and your hard drive (unless you have it backed up somewhere else)
--You have a folder of images on your hard drive and want to import them into iPhoto. Drag the folder of images into an open iPhoto Library window and the folder of photos will be copied into the library, resulting in a new roll with the name of the folder. You now have two copies of those photos, the ones in iPhoto's database and the ones on your desktop. You can keep the ones on your desktop that you just imported as backup or you can delete that folder.
-- you scan a picture/pictures and save it in a folder. You cannot scan directly into iPhoto or the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder.
You want all your photos in iPhoto so you import them into iPhoto.
Now you have two copies of that picture/pictures, so you can delete the originals that were in the scanned folder and keep the one/ones that were imported into iPhoto.
-- You download pictures from your camera into iPhoto.
There is now one copy of each of the pictures. (DO NOT HAVE IPHOTO DELETE THE IMAGES FROM YOUR CAMERA! DELETE THEM MANUALLY WITH THE CAMERA-if something goes wrong with the import and they are never imported and then they are deleted from the camera you might end up losing those images)
You want to change something about a picture you imported, such as
cropping it or changing the size, or changing the orientation.
Once you do that to a picture, you now have two copies of the picture
in iPhoto, the original and the edited one. The edited one will be in the library organize view. The original is packed away in an Original folder in your iPhoto Library folder under the date of the roll. You can always revert to the original by control clicking on the photo and choose "revert to orginal" You will not have this choice if you used iPhoto Diet to get rid of the Originals.
(a quick note on cropping within iPhoto...when you are in edit mode, you automatically will be in the crop mode with cross hairs to highlight the crop area. To finish cropping you must click the crop button and then go back to library view and your cropped picture will be there.
3.You want to use Photoshop or another graphic program to edit a picture in your iPhoto library.
You can open up prefs for iPhoto and choose "when double clicking on
photo ..do" choose "other" and select Photoshop. Now you can edit all
pictures in your iPhoto library in PhotoShop by double clicking. If you save the photo with the same name and as a flattened file it will be saved right into iPhoto and you will see the changes. If you don't want to save it into iPhoto then do a "save as" and save to the desktop. You will then have the original photo still in iPhoto and your new edited photo on the desktop.
Or, with iPhoto open, you can drag a picture from the library window
to your desktop (you see a + sign on the pic you are dragging). You now
have two of the same picture, one in the iPhoto library and one on your desktop. You can open up the one on your desktop in any graphic program and work on it. The one in iPhoto stays the same. You can also share/export the picture/pictures to your desktop or folder to work on them or do batch processing, etc. You will still have the originals in your iPhoto Library.
Or, you can open up the ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/folders and option drag any
picture out of the folder to your desktop. Notice that you will see a plus sign while dragging the photo. This is copying the file to your desktop
I would advise anyone not to do this as they might forget to use the option key and drag the photo out. Next time you open iPhoto the photo will be missing.
Two Apple kbs for you to read
Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto library folder
    About the iPhoto Library folder
Don't forget that in Library view you can Control click on any picture and get a contextual menu with many options. One is to revert to original.

    Why can't I email a photo ? It doesn't go through.

  • Why can't I import photos from iPhoto to Photoshop Elements 6?

I've got Photoshop Elements 6 on my iMac desktop running OS X 10.7.4.  When I click on File>Open in PE6, my iMac Finder opens.  I then select Photos and all my iPhoto and Photo Booth files open.  But I cannot click on (well, I can click on them but nothing happens) any photo to pull it into PE6.  It seems a simple operation, but apparently not for me!  Any help getting this application to work would be sincerely appreciated!  Thank you.

You can't do it that way. The iphoto library is for iphoto's own use, and poking at from outside iphoto is the fastest way to corrupt it and lose all your photos. You have two choices:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor for iphoto and open all images from iphoto, not by using File>Open.
    2. Export the photos from iphoto, open the copies and save them, then reimport the edited photos as new files.

  • Why can't I upload photos from iPhoto to Facebook any more?

Since I updated to 10.9 I am not able to upload photos from iphoto (v.8.1.2) to facebook.  When I try to upload the "publish" button is not highlighted so I can not click on it.  I used to be able to upload from iphoto all the time.  Is there some setting that I have to change?

Upload directly from iPhoto. Select your photos and then select Share. iPhoto questions are best handled in the iPhoto forum of all places.

  • Why can't I delete photos from iPhoto (ios)

The whole point of the app seems to be to edit and organize photos, so if I've taken the time to hide some number of photos, why can't I then delete these? Instead I have to go to the Photo app and delete them there, which doesnt show me any of the tagging or organizing I spent time on in iphoto... It should at least then show me "hidden" photos in Photo so I can delete them there, or let me delete from iphoto and it just removes it from Photo after, it seems pretty simple.  Why has iphoto (ios) been limited in this way?

Adunn83 I agree, this needs to addressed by apple in the next update. You should be able to delete photos that are on the iPad camera roll from within iPhoto, end of discussion.
This stops the iPad being a pc replacement without this and iPhoto on the iPad was why I bought the largest iPad and not a mac, I'm not impressed and it should be a simple fix.
Does anyone know how we can let apple know to add this to the next update I tried to look how to email the developer but it just went thought to apple support and wanted to phone me. I just want to let the developers know its something customers want fixing, do the iphoto developers read this forum ?
