Why can't I find iCloud in my system preferences?

I'm hoping to set my Macbook up on iCloud so I can have back up of my photos etc. When I follow the set up instructions I don' have an iCloud option in my system preferences. Help please!!!

Your Mac needs to be running OS X 10.7.4 or later to have iCloud in System Preferences.
What version is yours running?
Note that iCloud does not backup photos from a Mac. The Photostream feature is a temporary storage for transferring photos between iOS devices and back to a Mac for download.

You say you have iOS6: you can perfectly well pay to extend your free storage as an ex-MobileMe subscriber.
If you wish to continue your current storage level, the instructions are here:

Scroll down to 'How do I purchase my current plan?' and expand the section applicable to iOS.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Connecting your MacBook Pro and your MacBook Air will be the fastest way, but you have to spend money on cables and adapters (also, your MacBook Pro doesn't support Thunderbolt).
As you have a Time Capsule, one thing you can do is to start your MacBook Pro and make a Time Machine backup. Then, turn on your MacBook Air and set it up. Setup Assistant will ask you to restore a backup, so select the option to restore the backup from the Time Capsule and be patient. This can take a lot of time if you have to migrate a lot of files

  • HT5622 I can't find icloud on my system preferences?

I cannot find Icloud on my system preferences.  How do I get it on my imac MAC osx 10.6.8

You need to upgrade the computer to at least 10.7.2. Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Mavericks. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data before upgrading. Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

  • I can't sign into icloud from my system preference!!

We have two desk top mac's OS X 10.9.3.  We switched the house computer to our office and visa versa.  After unplugging it and setting it back up the one now in the house will not let me sign into my iCloud from the System Preference area. (the other works fine) I have tried everything.  I know I am using the right ID and password because I can sign in online but nothing will let me sign in under the icloud system preference and get my icloud to connect to the cloud information.  HELP it's making me crazy  I have spent the whole day trying everything.

I can sign on with two different id's (that are email addresses) and both use the same password.  And I can sign on to icloud.com via Chrome and have no problem.  But when I try to sign on to icloud via system preferences it tells me invalid password with one of the email addresses and that I can't sign in at this time - etc. with the other email address.
I think I give up and am going to haul it into our computer store tomorrow.  I just want to scream at this point.
None of it makes any sense.
Thanks for trying to help me.  I do appreciate it!!

As Kappy and Ralph Landry1 mentioned, you have to have Lion v10.7.2 installed in order to setup iCloud.
If you are running Snow Leopard v10.6 you can download Lion from the App Store.

Yes. You can use iTunes 11.
As noted, you need 10.7.5 to use iCloud though.

I have down loaded snow lepard but when i came to use i cloud could not find it in my systems preference

Mac OS X Snow Leopard isn't compatible with iCloud. iCloud needs OS X Lion or later.
First, check that your computer is compatible > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs If it's, open  > Software Update, and install the latest version. After that, open the App Store and purchase Mountain Lion.
While it's being downloaded, make a backup of your files and check that your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
When the download finishes, the OS X Mountain Lion installer will appear, so follow the steps. After upgrading, open System Preferences > iCloud, and follow the steps. See > http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup

  • Can't modify Mavericks iCloud settings from System Preferences or connect Mail to iCloud

I tried Keychain for the first time the other day, went away for the weekend and forgot my master password #*#@$!
In the process of trying a few different fixes I've changed my Apple ID password.  Most things are working well.
I can log in to iCloud via a browser using my Apple ID & new password.  I can also log in to itunes using the new password.
When I select iCloud from System Preferences and purposefully enter a wrong password, it tells me 'Incorrect password' in red font.  But when I enter the correct password, it is not rejected but the 'Enter Password' option remains on display and all the iCloud options/checkboxes remain greyed out.
In Mail, there is an error symbol against the iCloud inbox.  When I click on the error/circle symbol I am told 'Mail can't connect to the iCloud account "iCloud" ' and am requested to enter the password, which I do but with no effect.
Contacts has a similar problem and displays an error circle next to the iCloud account list, as does Calendar.
Any ideas out there?  Please help me!!
Is there any way to use Time Machine to revert to earlier settings?

If you are running Mt. Lion download and apply the OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.2 (Combo).  It includes the iCloud preference pane for the System preferences.
If you're running Lion then download and apply the OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo) as it also includes the iCloud preference pane.

Trying to set up icloud on my MacBook.  It is not in my system preferences to click.  How do I get it onto my MacBook?

That pane will only be there in 10.7.2 and newer. Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Mavericks. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU with at least 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
