Why can't I get wide screen when burning a dvd?

My sequence is all 1920x 1080 HD footage in mpeg2. My photos are all 1920 x1080 px. In encore if I want to burn a standard DVD it automatically goes to 720x480 if I choose " mpeg2dvd" format. Why isn't there a wide screen mpeg2 dvd format?

Colin, what you show is the  dialog box when I do file> export media, right? Except mine is different (Pr 5.5 iss different?) and has a check box for "match source attributes" and when that is checked the format box is grayed out.  And I don't see where you can customize anything.
What's the purpose of File>export media if it doesn't create a dvd?
If i do File> dyn link> send to encore there is no dialog box like you showed. it doesn't give any choices except dvd or blu ray and no "wide screen".
Are you all saying that 720x480 is all you get on a dvd and if your source is 16x9 it will squish it to fit? aren't hollywood dvd's in 16x9?

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

Why can't I get full screen from my ipad to Apple TV?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Mirroring won't fill the TV screen. The iPad has an aspect ratio of 4:3 and the iPhone 4S or prior an aspect ratio of 3:2, neither of these will fit exactly into a TV screen which as an aspect ratio of 16:9. The Apple TV will not zoom the mirrored image, because it may well cut off information which is situated at the top or bottom of the screen.
You may wish to try each of the settings in settings > AirPlay > Adjust for Overscan for the best setting that suits you.

Why can't I get the Mac to accept a dvd to play which it did yesterday evening?

    Hi a brody,
It's pretty well documented. Here's a Wikipedia article on the topic. Tons of other links to follow.
The drives themselves weren't damaged (by trying to do something like write to the drive's firmware), but the rootkit was installed on any computer you put a loaded disk in.
I had a couple of legally purchased CDs from that era, and they never played right. They would skip, stall and even spontaneously eject. And this was in various music CD players (home player, car), which the rootkit wasn't supposed to affect.

  • Why can't I get my 122min movie on a DVD-DL

Hi everyone. I am new to FCPX, but I was a quite confortable user to iMovie.
As I have to get a 122min movie on a DVD, I am obviously using dual layers.
First, I tried to do it with FCPX itself, using the Share > DVD... menu.
Setting it to Double layers, I was happy to use this function compressing my movie to 7 Go - everything works fine and the time left was in good relation with the job done. Until..
When it gets to 47% the estimated time left grows up to 38 hours or so, and it just either takes 12 hours to get to 52% or the "time left" itself gets even longer !
So I decided to get Compressor and try to work with the right thing... but it just seems to do exactly the same thing.
Is there any way I could be told what's wrong in my process? I've learned and read on so many forums Compressor was the right way to do this.
What are the setup I gotta use?
    My movie is a 1080p - HD - 1920x1080 - 23,98p
I am working on a iMac, quadcore, 10.6.8
    Thank you for your time

Actually, the only difference between Compressor and FCPX DVD disk authoring capabilities is that Compressor offers you the ability to set chapter markers.
The typical advice one reads on these and other Compresssion-related forums is to take a short section of the source file and test it to determine quality and to verify workflow. Unfortunately, with DL DVD, things are trickier and that approach isn't really possible…we don't know whether we have a successful project until we actually burn it and it plays on DVD players.
    A couple of things:
What codec is your movie sequence in? If it's H.264, consider transcoding to Pro Res. FCPX and Compressor both will probably be happier if not given a delivery codec l to down-scale from 1080 to 480, encode to DVD standards and also try to determine a break poiny in one fell swoop.
Also, consider down-scaling the movie to SD 16:9 as one stand-alone job. Then take the SD QuickTime output file and use the DVD share preset as a second stand-alone job. If you do that, use Frame Controls for the down-rez job and set the Resize filter to Better or Best.
Another point: be aware that regardless of whether you use the Compressor or FCPX Share>DVD function, you'll get only a single disk. It's not like DVDSP or iDVD where you can sequentially churn out multiple copies. (You can, of course, make copies of your disk when you have burned one successfully.)
Finally, since you have iMovie>DVD experience, I'm assuming you have iDVD installed. Were it my project, and if I didn't have DVD Studio Pro as an authoring option, I would definitely consider going the iDVD route.
    Good luck.

  • Converting back to wide screen after burning to DVD

    Hi all,
Looks like I burned my iDVD project to standard 4.3 and not widescreen mode. I can't see my title menu on my TV when viewing (I used Road trip theme). I deleted my original imovie too soon before I checked it. Is there a way to make a wide screen version of my finished iDVD project?
    Thanks
    web dude

You mean other than starting over in iMovie? Yes there is. It may sound complicated but it isn't really!
First go to http://www.mydvdedit.com/index.php?lang=english and download myDVDedit. This is shareware although the download is free. Send the guy a few dollars/euros, he deserves it. While you are there, read all about it. Now install it in your Applications Folder. You will need it later.
Open your Movies Folder. Create a new folder. Name it PROJECTNAME – TS FILES (where ‘projectname’ is the name of your project!). Close the folder. You can of course call it anything you like, but this aids identification.
Double-click on the DVD icon to open a folder containing the AUDIO_TS files and VIDEO_TS files. Drag and drop these to the folder you created in your Movies Folder. (This takes a moment).
Click on the AUDIO_TS folder and go to Get Info in the file menu. Right down the bottom is where you have to change the permissions. Under ‘Ownership & Permissions’ change this from Read Only to Read & Write. Click the small triangle next to Details, scroll down and click on ‘Apply to enclosed items’. You will be asked for your root password. Close the get info window, and now click on the VIDEO_TS folder and do the same. Close the Projectname-TS Files folder. You have now allowed yourself to change the properties of the contents of those folders, which leads us to the next all-important step.
Open myDVDedit. Go to File and open the projectname TS Files folder. By all means stare at it shock and awe, but don’t bother finding out what it can do, except for the following:
Top left you fill see a list of files. Lower centre you have a large window. On the vertical menu to the left of that, click te middle one (VTS or VMG).
In the window at the top left, ignore ‘First Play’ (if there was anything to correct in that, myDVDedit will have done so and told you).
Click on VMG Menu en (English). Now the whole thing springs to life.
Set Coding Mode to MPEG-2 (if it isn’t already)
Set Standard to PAL (or NTSC if that is what you want)
Set Aspect to 16:9 (not any of the other options)
    Now save the file.
Click on VTS Menu 1 en (English) and repeat as above.
Click on VTS Menu 2 and repeat as above.
You have now permanently ‘fixed’ the entire contents of the TS folder (the disk image) in 16:9 aspect. Close myDVDedit – you won’t need it again until the next project!
If you have Roxio Toast, open it. ‘Select DVD-Video from VIDEO_TS’. Choose Select from the main Toast window and select your projectname-TS Files folder. You are now ready to burn! You can set the burn speed (2x recommended) before the burn commences. Allow Toast to verify the burn before you eject the DVD-R disk.
If you don’t have Toast, then I assume you can burn the projectname-TS Files folder (disk image) via Disk Utility. I say ‘assume’ only because I have never tried it that way.
Either way, you now have a DVD which will play as 16:9 widescreen on any TV set, even the old ones where you can’t ask it to letter-box.

  • Blue Screen when burning a DVD

When I try to burn a DVD the systems crash with a blue screen when "compiling media" is at 95%. Windows returns a post error "PX Engine has stopped working properly". I have followed all steps in both pages http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415318?tstart=30 and http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/kb/troubleshoot-system-errors-freezes-burning.htm l. The PX Engine is installed by Premiere and I also tried to install an update of PX Engine as instructed by Microsoft Help. Any help? I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SP1 on Dell XPS (Intel i7, 8 GB RAM, 250+ GB free hd space).

A BSOD is a very serious matter. It is most often caused by hardware, or low-leve drivers interfacing with the OS. This ARTICLE goes into much more detail. It also provides links to tools, that might be very helpful.
    I would start looking for:
Heat (DVD burning, like Rendering and Export, is very intensive)
RAM (DVD burning might well be using RAM that sits unused by most other operations)
PSU (DVD burning requires more power, as the HDD's and multi-drive are all very active)
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Why can't I get my screen back when it goes to sleep?

I Have my 17" Macbook Pro (mid-2011) set to have the screen and backlit keyboard turn off after 15 minutes of inactivity, however at least half the time when I come back to use it again and I hit the trackpad or a random key to "wake it up", the backlit keyboard will light up again, but the screen won't come back on...it just stays black and I cant do anything. I have to hold the power button (HATE doing that too) and turn it back on that way....is there a fix for this at all?

I have been having the same problem with my MacBook Pro -2010 though. It just started a few weeks ago; can't seem to get the to screen stay on long enough to log back in; it goes back to black within seconds. I have tried all the different buttons; esc works sometimes after holding the power button down for a few seconds.  Eventually the log in screen [or the screen I was at when I closed the top] will come back on.
I hope I can find the answer to this as I can't afford a new machine right now. Besides, it's only a year old but out of warranty.

Recently, I noticed that when I attempt to "share" a YouTube video and click the share button, I get no embed codes. In fact I get no options at all. And, when I tried to share a YouTube playlist, again, nothing happens except an apparent text box opens that I cannot type or enter anything into. I use a Macbook Pro at work, with Firefox as my browser and everything works just as it should on YouTube. Since this is a quite recent problem with my Dell desktop (Firefox browser) at home, I suspect something has changed resulting in my current issue. Thanks for any help!
    </blockquote>
YouTube Content Creators have the ability to disable embedding if they wish to keep their videos on YouTube only. This is most likely what has occurred and is more than likely not an issue with Firefox itself.

  • Probabally old question, but why can't I get Full Screen?

Hi, I have the latest Quicktime, upgraded to Quicktime Pro...installed and registered but still no full screen. At Best I can few 3/4 screen. What do I need to do to fix? My old Windows Media was a true full screen....Is Apples? Thanks, Bill

Hi, I have the latest Quicktime, upgraded to Quicktime Pro...installed and registered but still no full screen. At Best I can few 3/4 screen. What do I need to do to fix? My old Windows Media was a true full screen....Is Apples?
As they say in the movies, "What we have here is a failure to communicate." Or, in this case, a simple problem of semantics. If you are asking if there is a QT Player setting that will "automatically" scale both height and width of your movie to the size of your monitor screen, then the answer is "no, not unless the aspect ratio of both your screen and your movie happen to be exactly the same." What you do have is:
    1) Full Screen - display of movie without contol planel centered to monitor screen with non-display areas (if any) rendered as a user selectable solid color. Default size of movie area can be set using the "Prefeence" option to Half, Actual, Double, Full Screen (i.e., scaled), and Current.
    2) Presentation - display of movie in "Full Screen" mode with the option to temporariy modify the default display size.
    3) Half Size - movie displayed in control panel at one half the "normal" size.
    4) Actual Size - movie displayed in control panel at "normal" size.
    5) Double Size - movie displayed in control panel at twice the "normal" size.
    6) Fit to Screen - movie displayed in control panel with height of control panel scaled to height of screen less menu bar or width of control panel scaled to width of screen depending on which dimension requires the lesser amount of scaling.
What you don't have is a "Zoom" mode in which the lesser relative dimension is scaled the the associated screen dimension with excess display area "cropped" from screen. However, if you are not a "purist" you can always "simulate" either the "zoom" option or a true "fill" screen option. To do this, simply
    a) open the "Show Movie Properties" window
    b) set the video track display setting shorter relative dimension to the associated monitor display dimension with "Preserve Aspect Ratio" option selected to simulate a "cropped/zoom" screen display or
    c) set the height and width of the video track display setting to exactly match you monitor display setting with the "Preserve Aspect Ratio" option deselected to simulate a "fill" screen display
If you wish to preserve your movie settting for quick and easy viewing at a later time, then add the following steps:
    d) select the main movie track
    e) set the "Automatically Play" option under the "Presentation" tab to auto play the movie when opened
    f) set the "Enter full screen" option under the "Presentation" tab to hide the menu bar when playing
    g) save the movie as a reference movie in the same drive location and do not delete or move the orginal file
Now you can view the "fill" or "zoom" version of your movie whenever you wish by simply double-clicking the reference movie icon. Hope that helps.
