Why can't I import CR2(raw) images

I just purchased Adobe PS Elements 8 to replace my 5.0. I was able to import pictures from my Canon Rebel xsi 450, via usb wire, except the CR2(raw) images. Once the import gets to these I get a pop up that states "Elements Organizer cannot obtain files from this device. Please ensure the device is connected properly, or that the battery is charged, and try again." My battery is fully charged and I disconnected and reconnected 2 x's. Why can't I import these photos?

My mistake, I was in a rush when I posted it.  I ran some tests, and think I answered my own question:
It's a Canon T2i...  Yes, I know I need Camera Raw 5.7.  But when I try to install the RC of 5.7, I just get a message that it cannot be installed, please click quit (perhaps it only works with Photoshop cs4, not Elements 8?).   So, as a test I loaded 5.6 (for Elements), and then tried to open a 7D cr2 file (which should be supported).  It works fine...  So, I'm wondering if I need to load a whole new version 5.7 to load the T2i files or if I can just load the 8Bi file from the new version?  I'm not sure where that file would be in the install package.  I have a feeling I'll just have to wait for the full version of 5.7 to come out...
Thanks for your reply.

  • Why can't LR import dialog see images on my flash drive or drive drive.

Everything was working great and now LR (version 5.6/camera raw 8.6) import dialog cannot see images on my flash drive or on my hard drive.  I'm using a MacBook Pro Retina running on OS X 10.10  There are no issues using the same flash card on my wife's MBP with LR for imports (uses the same LR S/W version and runs on OS X 10.10 as my MBP).  Also, iPhoto and Preview can read and import the Flashcard images just fine.  I'm puzzled.  Does anyone have a solution?

Thank you i found disk utilities... however i was reading in another area of the community that if I reformat it on my mac that it wont work on a pc.... The whole reason for doing this is so i can give my rough editted footage to my buddy so he can combine all the footage from our unit and make one big video, and he has a pc. Also if reformatting is the cure to this problem how do i know what to reformat it to. It doesnt tell me partition sizes for each option.

  • IPhoto 7.1 won't import .CR2 (RAW) image files

I'm shooting with a Canon 30D, and had no problem importing RAW images (.CR2 files) into iPhoto 08. However, after installing the update for iPhoto 7.1, I get an error message saying that the .CR2 file type isn't recognized. What the ****?
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

My understanding is that iPhoto is able to read RAW files that the underlying OS can handle (which is why you see updated RAW compatibility added with various OS updates).
    I have a 30D and have upgraded to 7.1
I just opened a folder of CR2 files and dragged and dropped into iPhoto and they imported fine. I have not tried downloading direct from camera as I tend to copy things over using a card reader.
So, in terms of troubleshooting, I suggest:
1 - can you see open the CR2 using preview? If not sounds like an OS issue.
2 - can you see thumbnails of the CR2 if they're in a folder somewhere? If not consider if the CR2 are corrupted.
3 - If no to 2, then can you open the images using other (Canon) software?
If yes to 1 and 2, the it's likely to be an iPhoto issue.

  • Why won't iPhoto import D700 RAW images?

Yesterday I tried to import 809 RAW (NEF) images from my Nikon D700 camera into the iPhoto program on a friend's iMac. It imported one image, but refused to import the remaining 808! I don't understand why it didn't accept the whole batch.
The iMac in question is a 20" Intel unit purchased new in 2006. The OS system has been upgraded to Leopard (version 10.5.8) and iPhoto to version 8.1.2. There's still plenty of available space (145 GB) on the hard drive.
Any ideas on what the problem might be and how to remedy it?
    Bob

    Larry,
    Thanks for the reply.
I can confirm that D700 RAW images were downloadable to earlier versions of iPhoto than iPhoto '11.
Until January 2012 I had a 20" Intel iMac purchsed in 2007 that was very similar to that of my friend. It also had Leopard  and iPhoto '09, and I was able to download D700 RAW images to it. In fact, one of the main reasons I upgraded that iMac from Tiger and iPhoto '06 to Leopard and iPhoto '09 was so that I could download D700 RAW images.
I now have a new 27" iMac with Lion and iPhoto '11 and have no problems downloading D700 RAW images.
I remain puzzled why the D700 RAW files--with the exception of one--wouldn't download to my friend's  iMac.

  • How can I send my CR2 raw images to a person who uses NEF? (I shoot Canon, Windows, She has Nikon, Apple)?

I have sent some Raw images CR2 files to someone who can't open them. She uses NEF
She is unable to open them.
Is there a way she can open them and then send them back to me?
    Thanks

In general CR2s and NEFs will open in Adobe software as long as it is newer than the camera models involved.
If your friend is using Nikon software then it won’t work with Canon raw files.
What is the software brand and version situation on both sides of the transaction and what camera model(s) are you sending raws from?

No, not in the application plug-ins folder. It goes in the File Formats folder, starting the path in your Root Level LIBRARY folder.

  • Why can't I import CR2 photos from a folder in my Mac into iPhoto 8.1.2?

My wife and I have separate iPhoto databases but to make our lives easier, I want to point my iPhoto to her database.  Before I do that, I need to export a bunch of photos from my database and import them into her library.  However, these photos are the RAW CR2 format and her iPhoto says it doesn't recognize the file format even though her library has hundreds of CR2 photos in it.  When I try to go the other way and import a CR2 photo into my database, it works fine.  Anybody have a clue as to the problem?

One possibility with music is that it is from a share source and identified as not paid for, I do not know the terminology, but i had to buy a song once to make it available in imovie, my original copy (no idea where i got it) would not show up. but this does not explain the photos not showing up.

  • CR2 / RAW images no longer displayed

For some reason, I can no longer view CR2 / RAW images (from a Canon EOS 350D). I've never had any issues with them before. Any ideas what can have caused this?

Go into "System Preferences" -> "Software Update" -> "Installed Software" and verify that "Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update" ver 2.7 is installed.
Also... it will only read .CR2 files in true full 'RAW' format.... not 'mRAW' or 'sRAW'. This is not a bug... 'mRAW' and 'sRAW' are not intended to be supported as they aren't really RAW formats at all.

  • Canon EOS D60 CR2 raw images don't open in Photoshop.  Why?

I know this question has been asked many times but I couldn't find a thread with an answer.  I have just taken my first images with my Canon EOS D60 (upgraded from 1000D) and find that the CR2 raw images aren't recognised by Photoshop.  I remember I had this issue when I first had my 1000D but cannot remember what I did.  I have CS4 V11.0.2 and tried to update Camera Raw but it says no updates are available.  I have Lightroom 3 and that opens them ok but not Photoshop.  Sorry .... but can anyone tell me again what the problem is?  Thanks. :-(

You can get support for the latest cameras in CS2, CS3 and CS4 through our FREE DNG Converter:
    Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4923
    Win: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4924
There are other benefits to using DNG besides backward compatibility if you haven’t explored those:
The metadata, keywords and RAW adjustments are stored in the file – along with a processed preview of the image. This makes the file portable and keeps your metadata safe and secure.
DNG files are smaller than the original RAW file which will save you disk space and time in the long run.
DNG is an openly specified file format which means the file format isn’t going away. So if you use another RAW processor that supports DNG, you don’t have to worry about compatibility or portability of your metadata.

  • Importing cr2 raw files won't work on ios 6 when it worked fine on ios5. Anyone have a solution?

I have  been importing cr2 raw files to my iPad using ios 5 but importing cr2 raw files won't work on ios 6. Sees files in camera but when import stops it fails with an exclamation mark in red circle. Anyone have a solution?

Don't know if you care anymore or it applies, but I was able to get things working but it took drastic measures.
I had to do a full system reset and update by doing the following:
    - Make note of all your settings in your system and apps especially accounts and forget about in app data that's only on your iPad and not in a cloud service because it will be gone after this
    - Connect iPad to Mac and startup iTunes
    - Hold down Home and Power buttons simultaneously for about 8 sec until the screen turns black
    - Release the Power button but continue holding the Home button until there's a popup on your screen which indicates it's in recovery mode
    - Follow the instructions to recover your iPad but recover it to factory state, not recover from a backup
    - Reinstall all your apps and content
    - Reconnect to all your services on your system and apps
I could not restore from a backup since it brought back my bad data too.  It also didn't restore my music and no matter what I tried it wouldn't put my music onto my iPad.  Had to start clean.
It appears over time that the system gets dirty and there's lots of bad data that can't get resolved.  This is especially true if some of your apps have crashed a bunch.

  • Incorrect colors after importing a RAW image into LR

I shoot in RAW mode using Canon EOS 400D.
After importing RAW images into LR, EVERY image I shot gets oversaturated with green-yellow colors. If I open same image in C1 Pro colors look fine.
If I change shooting mode on my camera to JPG (using sRGB color space) and import image into LR, colors look same as on RAW image in C1 Pro. All settings in LR and C1 Pro are set to default.
My guess is that LR applies wrong (camera?) profile when it imports a RAW image. I don't think it's a difference in RAW converters, because the difference in colors is really huge.
In the Camera Calibration panel I see ACR 3.6 profile selected and all settings are set to 0. Using sliders I can correct colors on image, but I failed to make a generic preset that could be applied on all imported RAW images.
My monitor (Samsung 940BF) is setup to use manufacturer ICC profile. I tried to change it to sRGB or Adobe RGB, it doesn't help. I'm running Windows XP SP2.
Any thoughts on how to return colors back to normal?

    Morey,
there is no such options as "import settings into LR" you have to put the ACR-settings-file into the "~/Library/Adobe Lightroom/Develop Presets" folder (on a Mac). I think in the end its faster to just copy the numbers manually from ACR and save the preset from within LR.
No, I don't think that calibrating has anything to do with profiles, at least not from what I understand as a profile (like sRGB or ProPhoto profile). It is kind of changing the stored default calibration values for a given camera type (something which one of course could also call a profile). It is definitive not like doing any double profiling or so.
    @Lee Jay,
on different forums you can find values for ACR camera calibration of different cameras, googling should reveal some. Problem is that the numbers for the calibration change with the lens and, more important, there seems to be a lot of leeway regarding the behaviour of individual cameras of the same model. I found a lot of numbers on the net which didn't work with my D70, in the end I had to calibrate it myself. But your experience might differ, so I would suggest that you just have a look at what google offers.
One last thing: You don't need to buy a PS version which is compatible with ACR 3.7 or 4.0. You can use the 30 day trial version of PS for this. Afterall you most probably only need to calibrate each camera once and I doubt that Adobe disapproves this use of a trial version as long as it helps to sell LR. ;-)
    Bye,
