Why can't i import my Photos Library into iMovie on Yosemite

i recently downloaded the Yosemite update. I've now convert iPhoto into Photos. When i use iMovie and try to import either my old iPhoto library OR my new Photos library, there is no content in either one. The libraries aren't selectable. What am i doing wrong?

Can you see the iPhoto Library from any other app, like Safari? File ➙ Open File menu option:

Why can't I import quicktime .mov movies into iMovie 08?

I exported my iPhoto slideshow to a .mov quicktime movie and tried to import it into iMovie 08 and couldn't. It won't drag in, and it is greyed out if I try to go File>Import Movie. I thought iMovie 08 could support quicktime movies!

I tried converting my .mov file that I created in iPhoto into a MPEG-4 using MPEG Streamclip as suggested.
Thanks for posting. My original post was not to address conversion of an iPhoto slideshow in MPEG Streamclip, but rather its saving in an MP4 container in order to strip the "Tween" track that iMovie '08 doesn't like. However, while reviewing your comment, I noted that the iPhoto slideshow export options have changed and no longer offers the "full animation MPEG-4/AAC" compression format. Unfortunately, my original post is now outdated, so here is an update:
1) The best approach is still to use QT Pro if you have it. I too the morning off and created a quickie tutorial which demonstrates how you can do this. CLICK HERE TO VIEW

Why can't I import sound with video into iMovie from digital camera?

This is disturbing. I have a digital video camera that took great video + sound. I import into iMovie (using my DV cable that came with the camera) and get video but no sound.
Now, in the past the sound came in, but no longer. Any and all advise is requested. I have to make number videos of lectures starting Wednesday evening and have to be able to provide video with audio.

Try importing video shot with the camera's internal
microphone. If that doesn't work either, the mic is
not the problem.
I have no problem importing sound with video when using the internal video camera mic. No problem (other than sound quality issues with the speaker being 40 feet away from the camera's internal mic!
But I can play back the video made with the external mic in the camera and the sound is stunningly clear, crisp and loud. It's just a matter of getting it out of the camera into my Mac. I don't think it's the microphone; it must be the computer.
I just find it sad to believe that Apple's software is so limited--even in Final Cut Express HD.

How do I import my iPhoto library into iMovie?

For some unknown reason I am not able to import all my pictures and video clips into iMovie. I do not know what is happening to my Mac. What did I do to it ? I still have plenty of storage space on my laptop. I have a Mid 2012 13" Macbook Pro running Mavericks OS X 10.9.4. I almost forgot to mention that iMovie quits unexpectingly when I am in the middle of a video project. Thanks in advance for any help.

There is no way you would import an iPhoto Library into iMovie. What you can do is access the Library from iMovie.
So, what exactly are you trying to do, and what goes wrong? What error messages do you get? What version of iMovie and iPhoto?

Please forgive my ignorance as I am new to the Mac world. While attempting to create a slide show in iMovie, I click the camera icon to add a photo and only the iPhoto and photobooth libraries populate. I can't seem to find where I can import my Aperture library. Any advice?

Your Aperture library should populate automatically. Mine always has.
However, since it is not working for you, there is a preferences file (plist) that controls all this. I would suggest that you move the com.Apple.iApps.plist preferences file to the trash according to the instructions here.

There is probably no need to move the com.Apple.iMovieapp.plist file to the trash, but it coudn't hurt.

Why can't I import a photo?

I have created a new project. I click on Media, then Photos, then select Library. When I scroll down to find the photos I want to use, iMovie unexpectedly quits. I have replicated this several times with the same results.
Powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Imovie lets me drag and drop into a project window from the desktop. I use .jpg files. Are your photos .jpg or some other format? Below is Apple's video on importing photos from iphoto. I suspect if a photo will go into iphoto it will go into iMovie. If you cannot drag from the desktop, try putting it into iphoto and importing it that way.

Why can't i import raw photos from canon powershoot G2?

i have a powerbook with 1.25 G4 processor and am using iphoto 6.0.5. i also just installed the raw support update. i tried to import the photos again and no luck. i get this error message
"the following files could not be imported (they may be unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)"

I have looked at changing settings but until I can actually import the pics into iPhoto, I am reluctant to change anything. Reading the link you mention, it would appear that the pics should be imported into iPhoto 11 albeit in j-peg format so they can then be processed using the Raw converter. Think I will have to spend some time when I am not so busy looking into all the options, thought this was going to be a simple thing to put right.

Why can't I edit home movies uploaded into iMovie?

Hi, I recently used Elgato Video Capture to upload some old VHS tapes into iMovie that I now want to edit. However, iMovie won't allow me to cut or edit any of the footage?? I can edit anything from my video capture but not the imported stuff. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Have you started a project? You would do the edit in the project not the Event.

Why can't I import CR2 photos from a folder in my Mac into iPhoto 8.1.2?

My wife and I have separate iPhoto databases but to make our lives easier, I want to point my iPhoto to her database. Before I do that, I need to export a bunch of photos from my database and import them into her library. However, these photos are the RAW CR2 format and her iPhoto says it doesn't recognize the file format even though her library has hundreds of CR2 photos in it. When I try to go the other way and import a CR2 photo into my database, it works fine. Anybody have a clue as to the problem?

One possibility with music is that it is from a share source and identified as not paid for, I do not know the terminology, but i had to buy a song once to make it available in imovie, my original copy (no idea where i got it) would not show up. but this does not explain the photos not showing up.

Why can't I import to itunes library?

Hi everyone
So I was trying to add some my itunes library and it looked like it was doing the right work but afterwards the tracks aren't there. It seemed to go through the whole import process including analysing gapless playback but then got stuck when trying to find the album artwork. Eventually I had to force quit each time.
After trying it about 10 times I have run out of things to try. I haven't imported anything since updating to itunes 10.4 (and now 10.4.1) and now I can't import anything at all. I can make a new playlist by dragging files from the desktop into a new playlist but even these don't appear in the library.
I am not exactly an itunes newbie so I am fairly sure I am not doing anything too stupid.
What can I do to fix this problem?

Why can't I import any photos into lightroom?

I just bought Lightroom 5 and installed it. I need it so that it can help me correct Chromatic Aberration in portraits. I have tried importing photos but nothing will import. They won't import as raw files from memory card or jpeg from desktop or external drive. Loads fine into Photoshop Elements. If someone has a fix to this, please help. I will need step-by-step instructions. I don't understand complicated technology lingo. I'm using a Mac. My camera is a Canon T3i. My card is a Lexar…tying to think if there is anymore info I need to give. Please help before I go bald. Thanks!

Why can't i see my iPhoto library in iMovie on my iMac?

I have used my iPhoto library before on my Macbook to create movies using iMovie. I now have an iMac and looking to try and use iMovie on this device. However, when I go to iMovie, the iPhoto library is greyed out and I cannot access my photos. I have searched around for threads on this subject and have tried some of the following...removed all key words and ensured all of my photo folders have names that do not have any special symbols. I still cannot access my iPhotos in iMovie on my iMac. Any other suggestions?

Why does iphoto not import my photos chronologically into events

I have just updated to the latest version of iphoto and infuriatingly whenever I now import photos, rather than placing them at the bottom of the series of events in chronological order, iphoto now imports them as the second event next to photos from 2000, so I have to move them manually down to the bottom, even though the date being shown is correct, can anyone help?

I have the same. I think it changed with iPhoto 11. I drag them all the way down all the time. Try to set the chronological order, under "Presentation" (sorry I work in a French version Presentation is at the left side of "Window") and then right in the middle "sort events" and check chronological order. Hope this helps.

Why can't I use the content library in iMovie?

I can use every other feature in iMovie except for the Content library. It is not in my side bar, and when i get it from the tool bar above the options are gray like I can't use them.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you're trying to get your Content Library to appear in iMovie, please make sure you have a movie project open, as it should then automatically appear.
You can find titles, transitions, music, and maps in the Content Library. The Content Library is at the bottom of the sidebar once you open a movie project.
If the sidebar is not already open, click Show in the toolbar.
At the bottom of the sidebar, select an item from the Content Library.
In the Browser, your selection appears (titles, transitions, and so on). Drag one to the timeline to add it to your movie.
If you add a title, map, or globe, you can adjust settings in the Adjustments Bar which is located above the Viewer. 
If you add a transition, double-click it in the timeline to adjust its duration.
To return to your video clips in the Browser, select an event in the sidebar.

Why can't I import from a DVD to iMovie?

i just downloaded mac the ripper and and ripped my dvd to work with on iMovie....it still doesnt wanna import onto iMovie.....any suggestions?

When i look at the files they do say VOB though....is there any way you could explain it in simpler terms?
They say a picture is worth a thousand words -- here is a "Quickie" tutorial demonstration how iSquint (Google for a free copy) can be used to convert one or more VOB files to MPEG-4 (or H.264) compression formats that can be edited in iMovie '08. I normally recommend starting with this application so the new user can get a feel for the conversion process. This application is free but limits output to MPEG-4 (default format but fastest) or H.264 (better quality for a given data rate but longer transcoding). Then, if the individual wishes to invest in a better application with more capabilities, he or she can make an "informed" decision having already seen what results are available for free with this application.
