ANSWER:
I have come to the conclusion that the Installer app is NOT written in PowerPC, but otherwise has a bug that triggers the "PowerPC apps..." dialog box in Lion and Mt. Lion.
While you and others have attempted to install Rosetta from a Mac OS X Snow Leopard Install DVD into Lion or Mt. Lion, I am convinced that it only works to side-step this bug and allow the installer to complete the installation.
Think about it: if you can install Rosetta into Lion or Mt. Lion and get a PowerPC installer app to work, why doesn't that installation of Rosetta work for any of the hundreds of other PowerPC apps (and indeed they fail when launced to run in Lion or Mt. Lion with Rosetta installed)?
The conclusion is simple: the FCS2 installer app is NOT PowerPC and installing Rosetta into Lion or Mt. Lion will fail to gain any use of Rosetta on either platform.
So, you might respond, but if the simple installation of Rosetta into Lion or Mt. Lion fixes the bug and allows the installer app to function, why not?
The answer is more complicated: I am now reading posts on this and other forums of DANGER later on down that road.  People who earlier installed Rosetta into their Lion computers are now reporting all sorts of otherwise unexplainable crashes, freezes, etc.!
There are two DANGER-FREE ways to install this program:
1`.  Use Terminal as suggested above but described in more detail by Jeremy Johnstone on his blog (and be sure to read Aric's June 4, 2012 comment): http://www.jeremyjohnstone.com/blog/2012-03-11-installing-final-cut-pro-studio-2 -0-on-mac-os-x-10-7-lion.html; or
2.  Use Pacifist http://www.charlessoft.com/
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL ROSETTA INTO LION OR MOUNTAIN LION!

  • Why Can't I Install Final Cut Studio?

I have a MacBook Pro which is about 12 months old. It has a 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 Processor and 8G of RAM. I have been trying to install Final Cut Studio 5.1. Yeah I know that is an OLLLLLLLLLLLD version. Why I chose not to update is neither here nor there. I was about to update when Final Cut Pro X was realeaded and FCS vanished into the ether. I really only wanted DVD Pro but when that wouldn't install I went back to Square 1.
The specificationa as stated are:- "These discs contain the files required to install Final Cut Studio 5.1 on either PPC or Intel based Mac computers."
The error message that shows up on the screen when I click on the install package is:- "You can't open the application Final Cut Studio pro.mpkg because Power PC applucations are no longer supported."
This is despite the stated specifications and the fact that there is a Universal Icon on the discs.
I am also having a simillar but not the same problem with iLife '06 but i'll start another thread on that.
I'm confused, thanks for your help in advance.

Your problem is you are running Lion as your OS (10.7) and Lion does not support Rosetta which is required to run the INSTALLER of FCS 2. If you were running Snow Leopard, you would have been able to do the install.

  • Trying to install Final Cut Studio on my Lion Notebook

    Hey guys,
I bought a MacBook Pro with Lion on it but I can't seem to install Final Cut Studio 2 without Rosetta.  I have the Final Cut Studio 3 upgrade discs which are universal but I cant install FCS3 without first installing FCS2.  Anyone have any ideas?

    > Will I run into any issues if I install Final Cut Studio 3 to run in conjunction with Final Cut X?<
That's been a running topic and I've found the posted discussions to be mutually exclusive. Maybe it depends on the hardware platform. Dunno. Might search the FCPX forum too.
Please post back if you figure it out with your own experiences.

  • Can Remote Desktop install Final Cut Studio?

    Hi,
I'm planning a large rollout of Final Cut Studio 3 to a network of 36 MacPro's. I use Apple Remote Desktop to install as much as possible, but I've never been able to install Final Cut using ARD due to it being a multi-disc installer and requiring the serial number during the install. The best I've been able to do is push installer disk images out to the computers, then run the installer manually on each via screen sharing. Not horrible, but a lot more time consuming than it should be.
I don't see anything in the Final Cut Studio installer on using ARD, but I thought I'd check here.
    Thanks,
    Mitch

Thanks. My method thus far is similar. I image each disc to a folder, then put the discs away (pretty much standard procedure for any install really). Remote Desktop lets you push the image files out to all computers simultaneously - freakishly fast using multicast networking. The image files are then local to each machine. I'll then sit at the admin station, and using Remote Desktop's screen sharing jump between each computer starting the installer and pasting the serial number. When done, I trash the installer image files from the local computers.
I've played with imaging full systems, but I always think of "one last thing" that needs to be done to configure then I'm back imaging again.
Most applications that use the pkg/mpkg installer format install great over Remote Desktop. Even some that have serial number entry during install have workarounds (Filemaker lets you create a plist containing the serial for example). Even Adobe has come around with CS4, not using the standard format but packaging their multi-disc installer with configuration info for simple network installs.

  • Final Cut Studio and Mountain Lion?

Not finding a clear answer anywhere.  Can I install Mountain Lion over Snow Leopard, and have the new ML system recognize my Final Cut Studio (7) and its ancillary apps like Color and Soundtrack Pro?
I don't have the time to re-install the whole FCP shebang.  But I would like to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
    Ben

    Thank you mishmumken ...
I remember how long it took to do the last install.  And my FCP is running sooooo smoothly.  And my discs are sitting in another city ... a two day drive to fetch ... or a border to cross if I have them shipped.  Tsk tsk tsk.
Maybe I'll do the Mountain Lion on my laptop, to try it out ... and see if my currently installed FCP will still run properly (you do say 'it is recommended', but maybe not absolutely required, my risk).  And not touch the tower, where I do most of my work anyhow.
    Very much appreciated mish,
    Ben

  • Final Cut Studio 2  / Mountain Lion

    Hi!
I've spent most of my day reading through several posts and I am now totally confused. Here's my issue. I just purchased a new Mac Book Pro with Mountain Lion. I also purchased Final Cut Studio 2 / FCP 6. I was unaware that this version needed Rosetta to be installed on my new mab Book Pro. I'm trying to find the simplest way to get up and running. Can I just buy an upgrade to FCP version 7? Or will I run into the same problem? I figure that since I am buying the upgrade, I may not have to even install FCP 6...as long as I have the Serial. I also understand that Apple only supports FCPX on Mountain Lion, but from what I understand, the issues seem to be just installing. Any help with this?
    Thanks!

    >Can I just buy an upgrade to FCP version 7?
If you can find one on eBay, Amazon etc. Apple discontinued FCS 16 months ago.
    >Or will I run into the same problem?
FCS 2009 (with FCP 7) has an Intel installer.
    >I may not have to even install FCP 6...as long as I have the Serial.
    Correct.
    >I also understand that Apple only supports FCPX on Mountain Lion,
I run FCS 2009 without issues on ML. You will get better support on this forum than any offered by the iLife experts staffing the Genius Bar.

  • HT6114 Why can't I install Mavericks on OS X Mountain Lion? I keep getting the message "Cannot install on Macintosh HD"

Why can't i install mavericks on OsX mountain lion? I keep getting the message "Cannot install on Macintosh HD"

You have a Macbook Pro, not a desktop Mac Pro and, since yours is a 2011, it should install.
How much RAM do you have?
And how much empty hard drive space?
Did you get the machine new or did you buy it used with Lion installed?

  • Can I not install Final Cut Studio 2 on my new Mac Mini?

I just purchased a new Mac Mini - it's time to retire my G5 Power Mac.
FCS 2.0 is unverisal - so why can I not loan the software..???

I am having a major problem, I have an old mac purchased 7 years ago and my hard drive got problems but is still working, I got a new mac having OS X system, I have final cut pro 6 and I installed it on the new os X but it didn't work, I also used the conversion method mentioned on the net in order to work on final cut pro x because final cut pro 6 is not supported on OS X, with the conversion the final cut pro X was only able to read the original tapes but was not able to read the edited material, am really stuck and I need help, can someone recommend a helpful solution? when i went to mac technical support office they said that for old macs we can only offer to change the hard drive and RAM and replacing the old hard drive for OS with a new hard drive does not gaurantee that final cut pro 6 will work also, and if something later on doesn't work in the old mac OS we can not fix it or replace it because apple does not provide any other spare parts besides the RAM and hard drive.

  • Why can't I install Final Cut Studio2 on my MacPro

I have a MacPro Dual Core Xeon 2.66 w/8GB of ram running OS X Lion 10.7.5, I had read that I couldn't use a newer version of Final Cut so got an older one and cannot install it due to PowerPC issues?  Do I need to dual boot and install an older OSX?

I sounds like you version was written for a Power PC processor. For up to and including Snow leopard, Apple included Rosetta in the operating system to allow Power PC apps to run on a Mac with an Intel processor.
You can dual boot to Snow Leopard

  • Why can't I install Final Cut Pro X on my second computer?

I've bought and downloaded final cut on my main computer, but my second one (both iMacs!) can't download - App Store says I have to buy before I can download. By the way, before I upgraded to Mavericks, final cut was available for download. I did, however, not download it - thought it would be best to upgrade the OS first. Bummer.
    What to do?

log-in with your AppStore account on your 2nd Mac .......
most probably, the OS update cleared some cookies ....

  • Final Cut Studio and Mountain Lion 10.6.8 Problems

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.6.8. on my Mac Pro (upgraded from Snow Leopard).
I now realise, looking at various forums that trying to run FCP7 on ML is not straightforward, or maybe not even possible!
I have found that after updating to ML, Final Cut Pro 7 (Studio 3) would appear to run pretty much fine, but the main problem is constant 'dropped frames' warnings when running HD ProRes projects. The frequency of these 'dropped frames' freezes (every few seconds!) makes FPC7 unuseable. These HD ProRes projects ran perfectly well under Snow Loepard. In fact FCP7 was totaly stable and reliable despite constant daily hammering.
There is a lot of good ideas and information on the forums, largely talking about FCP being incompatable because ML no longer supports Power PC type installers, but there doesn't seem to be very much overall agreement.
Now that ML has been around awhile, can anyone share any definite information about FCP7 working with ML? Apple themselves maybe?
I suppose it's my own fault for not doing my homework properly before trying ML. I rely on FCP7 for my work. So I'm going to spend today clean-installing my MacPro back to Snow Loepard and re-installing everything. Oh joy!
    John G

In reply to Maurice, yes, Mountain Lion is 10.8. In my post I mistakenly typed 10.6.8 which is Snow leopard.
For now I'm sticking to Snow Leopard. Did a ground-up reinstall and my FCP7 set-up runs perfectly again. Happy, happy!
If I had time (which I don't) it would be interesting to try a complete re-build of a Mac Pro with Mountain Lion, then install FCP7 and FCPX from scratch. I suspect that may work. Some people are saying they have no probs, but when I tried it as a upgrade (rather than a re-install) it was a mess.
Another problem with 10.8. was that my Blackmagic Intensity card would not output pictures from FCPX to my monitor, despite trying the latest drivers from BMD. This was my main reason for upgrading to Mountain Lion in the first place - I wanted to try out FCPX, but monitor output apparently only works with 10.7 onward.
Does anyone else have any experience with FCPX and Intensity cards?

  • How can I install Final Cut Studio 2 on my new MacBook Pro with Lion?

I just purchased and received a new 15" MacBook Pro (non-retina) last week. I need to install Final Cut Studio 2 on this computer. I have researched this and found that I need to install Rosetta from the Snow Leopard DVD in order to do this. This is the first Mac I've bought ( although I've been working with them for years), so I don't have a Snow Leopard DVD. I am a high school teacher and we use FCS 2 for my classes so buying FCP X is not a viable option for me since I teach FCP 6. The iMacs we use in school run Leopard and were never upgraded to Snow Leopard (budget cuts and all), so I can't even borrow one from my district.
Does anyone know how I can obtain Rosetta? Or another way to install this without it?
    Thank you ! :)

There is no way to add Rosetta support because it is not supported by OS X Lion at system level. This has been documented before the release of OS X Lion by itself.
If you really need Final Cut Studio 2, I would return your computer if possible, and purchase a Mac that is capable of running Snow Leopard (all 2010 models, early 2011 MBP and some other 2011 models)
