Why can't I install Mavericks on my mac pro?

hi, I have macbook pro, intel core 2 duo, 2.33 Ghz. why can't I update it to OS X Mavericks? everytime I click on install, it says "can not be installed on this computer". thanks!

Check the model number.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
If your model number is less, you'd need a new computer.

You have a Macbook Pro, not a desktop Mac Pro and, since yours is a 2011, it should install.
How much RAM do you have?
And how much empty hard drive space?
Did you get the machine new or did you buy it used with Lion installed?

  • I've installed Mavericks on my Mac Pro. It works well, generally, but will not stay sleeping! Pressing the power button twice sometimes extends the sleep mode but even that seldom results in a full overnight sleep.  File sharing off. What else can help?

    Hi fremley,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This article may be helpful with determining why your Mac Pro doesn't stay in sleep mode:
Mac OS X: Why your Mac might not sleep or stay in sleep mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1776
Some things reset the sleep timers, preventing the computer from sleeping:
Hard drive access (even if you're not using the computer, a running application might be accessing your drive, such as when downloading a large file or listening to music in iTunes)
Moving the mouse or using a portable Mac's trackpad, pressing a mouse button, or pressing a key on the keyboard
Some System Preferences settings (see below)
    Open applications (see below)
    Input devices (see below)
    Expansion cards (see below)
Additional drives, such as USB, FireWire, DVD, or CD drives (see below)

  • Why can't I install Mavericks OS in my old MacBook Air?

Why can't I install OS X Mavricks in my old Mac Book Air?

If your model does not meet the requirements, then you cannot do anything about it except buy a newer model.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?

  • Why can I just Install my system as Mac OSX Extended

    Hi,
yes like my thread says, why can I just choose the option Mac OSX Extended (case-sensitive) when I want to reinstall Leopard? Or is the Option somewhere esle and I can't find it? Because when I want to choose, they are two options, both options are Mac Osx Extended, the other is with an extra option, but I forgot what it was.
I don't want Mac OSX Extended because some games or Apps won't work with it like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare or Age of Empires 2.
    Thank you.

If you mean "why can't I" ... it depends how you're trying to reinstall Leopard. You can only choose the format of the drive when you're doing a clean install (erase and install) which wipes your drive. If you're choosing Install (upgrade from an earlier version) or Archive and Install, you won't get the option to reformat the drive.
If you are indeed trying to clean install, try running Disk Utility from the installation disk first (before you go through the install screens, go to the Utilities menu and run Disk Utility). From there, you can erase and reformat your drive to the format you need ... the options you will have are Mac OS Extended, with or without case-sensitivity and journalling. Hope one of those is the one you want - you didn't mention which you'd prefer.
    Matt

  • HT201364 Why can't i download maverick when my mac comes with it preinstalled?

I bought a new Mac Book Pro with OS X Maverick. Why can't i download the installer from App Store?

Yes Mavericks can be downloaded but is it the *right* one is what Tuttle was getting at.  Don't take our world for it, take it from Apple:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1159#MacBook_Pro
Notice that even the 13" and 15" Retina models have a different version number.

  • Cannot install Mavericks on my Mac Pro

    Hello,
    I have a MacPro early 2009 with OSX 10.7.5.
I can not install Mountain Lyon or Mavericks.
The process starts correctly, the computer restarts and begins installing. After a few minutes, it tells me it can not complete the installation and log appears.
I have Time Machine running with an internal drive that Tera is not the Macintosh HD drive where I install the new system.
I tried to disable Time Machine, and does not work.
    Any clues?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Why can't I install Aperture on my Mac?

I tried installing Aperture 2.1.1 Trial but I can't. I thought that my Power Mac G4 more than met the minimum requirements of Aperture 2.1.1.
Could somebody please help me. What can I do to make it install?
    Thanks for reading

  • Why can't I transfer all my old Mac Pro stuff onto my new Mac Pro?

Just got this brand new Macpro and all I'd like to do is to copy all that is on my older Macpro onto the new one. Migrating used to be easy but now with both computers using Mavericks 10.9.2, and following all that is explained about Migrating, it just doesn't work. I think (not absolutely) that it would have transferred from my Time Machine, but it said it would take 120 hours! Did not seem to make sense to me so I cancelled. I'm trying to do it over wi-fi. The signal is very strong. What's going on?

First, you can't really rely on the time estimate it gives. That's based on an average of the number of files and the sizes of the files it's copied so far. That number will jump around as the copying proceeds. That said, wifi is a slow way to go. You'd be better off plugging both Macs into Ethernet for the duration of the transfer or wiring them directly. Wired is always faster than wireless.
