Why can't I install the 10.5.8 Leopard Combo Update??
I've had the Leopoard 10.5.8 combo update on my computer for a while now, but I haven't been able to install it successfully after at least 5 attempts. Usually, when I restart my computer to install it, the installation remains stuck in "configuring installation" mode. I've left my computer on for at least a couple hours, thinking that it takes that long to install, yet still, it remains at the same point in the progress bar - "configuring installation." I read online that the installation takes about 20 minutes.
I've verified and repaired the disk permissions twice, and that won't fix the issue either. I wouldn't necessarily mind keeping my 10.5.5, but I can't install Safari 4.0.3... and without Safari 4.0.3, I can't access my Itunes store on Itunes 9! So frustrating and ridiculous!
Any advice? Thanks.
First give this a try:
Repairing the Hard Drive
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally. Try the updater.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

Because eight years ago, when Apple developed it, Steve Jobs was adamant that iOS NEVER EVER EVER be compatible with Flash. That... will never change.
Apple says to use "SkyFire" as your browser if you must view Flash content (which they do not recommend you do with an iPad). It's free in the App Store. -
Why can't I install the newer version of Flash when I already have the older one?
My virus software is turned off. I have Flash currently on my computer. In the troubleshooting page I can see the clouds in the picture so I know my current flash is working. I went into the internet settings for add-ons and the flash is currently enabled. Why can't I install the newer version of Flash? I tried the run and save option and it still didn't work. I can see the installer in my downloads folder. But, all I get is a black blank box that does nothing. What else can I try to get the installer to actually install the updated version of flash?
Try the offline installer(s)
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
Flash Player for Mac OS X -
Why can't I install the latest version of Flash Player?
Why can't I install the latest version of Flash Player? The install button is always gray.
Don't use the downloader/installer.
Use the FULL offline installer: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/mac /install_flash_player_12_osx.dmg
And DON'T run it either. When you mount the dmg
and it opens the window, right click the installer and "Show Package Contents"
Double click the Adobe Flash Player.pkg and let it run the COCOA installer. -
Why can't I install the latest version of Flash Player? I have all plug-ins allowed.
Why can't I install the latest version of Flash Player? I have all plug-ins allowed.
If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
Step 4
a. If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then select the Security tab in the Safari preferences window. In the list of plugins on the left, there should be one—and only one—entry for "Adobe Flash Player," showing the same version number that you installed. Select that entry. On the right there will be a list of websites for which you have specifically allowed Flash, if any. It's normal for the list to be empty. Below that is a menu labeled
When visiting other websites
From that menu, select either Allow or Ask.
b. If you still get the alerts, then go back to the Flash Player preference pane and select the Advanced tab. Click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
c. If the alerts still persist, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
Stop plug-ins to save power
Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
Then click the button marked
Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
Step 9
Select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them. -
Safari is closed!!!!!!!! Why can't I install the new version???
...or download the offline installer (http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/mac/install_flash_playe r_11_osx.dmg) and reboot. That whay there are no processes other than those launched at startup running.

Just purchased OS X Mountain Lion but in order to down load I have to have the App Store App on my Mac. Please help.10.6.6 was the 1st to support the App Store, 10.6.8 is actually needed now as a minimum.
Install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.(10.9/Mavericks is the only download available now without specially calling Apple).
Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
General requirements
* Mac computer with an Intel processor
* 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
* 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
* DVD drive for installation
* Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
* Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

Why can't I install the latest update?
Why can't I install the latest update? There is an update available. I'm asked to agree to the terms. I do and nothing happens.
There are two common reasons why an iPad can't be updated to the latest version of the operating system.
The most common reason is storage space. You can try to free up space of your iPad.
The second most common reason is the original iPad. For example, for iPhone, only iPhone 4s and the later can upgrade to iOS 8 and the higher.

Why can't I install the flash player on my Kindle Fire???
I have tried several times to install the flash player on my Kindle Fire but it keeps telling me there is an issue opening the download. How am I able to download it yet am unable to install it. It makes no sense to me why it would be able to download yet not be able to open the installation. Is this a problem that is being fixed? I've tried to "troubleshoot" this issue myself but there is little information on it. If the Kindle Fire is unable to install the Adobe Flash player then there needs to be some changes made either on your companies part or Amazons. There are apps offered on the Kindles that need this flash player in order to operate. If you could back to me with an answer as soon as possible I would greatly aprreciate it. Thank you.
Hi,
Although we continue to provide security and patch releases for Android devices which originally shipped with Adobe Flash Player, new feature development for the Android browser has drawn to a close as we shift our focus to Adobe AIR for mobile applications. For more details on the rationale for our decision I refer you to the following article.

The following article describes how to manually install the Adobe Flash Player manually on your Android device.

Another alternative is to install the SkyFire browser, which appears to support Flash Video.

In eBay, I was trying to upload pictures when I got this message: "You need the latest version of Adobe Flash Player to use the standard picture uploader.
Download and install the latest version from Adobe before continuing."
In YouTube, when trying to watch a video, I got this message: "You need to upgrade your Adobe Flash Player to watch this video."
I have gone through the procedure for downloading and installing the latest version of Adobe Flash Player, but still get the same messages when I reopen Firefox and revisit these sites.
There does not seem to be the same problem with Safari, which runs the latest version of Adobe Flash Player with no trouble.
I am using an iMac running Mac OS X Version 10.6.7.You can find the latest Flash player for Firefox on this page.
For Firefox on 64 bit Windows, you need the 32 bit Flash version version because Firefox is a 32 bit application.

Why can't I install the RAID driver?
I'm a newbie with a newly built system, I originally wanted to set up a RAID0 with my two drives but I ran into a problem using the instructions in the user's guide. No matter how many times I pressed F6 to install the RAID driver, it just won't load and pressing CTRL+I does nothing. Eventually I gave up and just install the drives as IDE drives and installed the OS on the first drive. After installing the OS, I tried to install the IAA RAID Edition but it keeps saying that I don't have the right I/O Controller installed even though I know I do because I checked it using Intel's chipid program. I'm running out of ideas, can anyone help me?
In Bios>>Integrated Peripherals>>On-Chip IDE Config:
You must have 'Configure SATA As Raid" set to "yes"
Then if you have the drives attached to Serial1&2 properly(data and power), you'll be able to use control-I to enter the Raid Utility and configure the Raid.
Then load the XP setup CD and hit F6 to install the Raid drivers and continue the WinXP installation.
The Intel IAA Raid Edition will Not install if it detects the Bios setting mentioned above is not enabled OR if there are no Raid configured drives. -
Why can't I install the version of iDVD from iLife '06?
I have a MacBook Pro which is about 12 months old. It has a 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 Processor and 8G of RAM. I have been trying to install the iLife '06 version of iDVD. Yeah I know that is an OLLLLLLLLLLLD version. I have decided that I don't like the current version of iDVD. I am also having slight problem when archiving the iDVD file. I won't bore you with the details of that. I have my own ideas anyway.
The Specifications say the following:- "A Mac computer with a Power PC, G4, G5, or Intel Core Processor is required."
The error message I get when clicking on the install package is:- "You can't open the application because Power PC applications are no longer supported."
This seems odd given because of the stated specifications required and given that I have iMovie HD installed and working on the computer. I never upgraded from iMovie HD becaus in it's next incarnation of iLife iMovie was Intel compatible only and I had a Power PC computer. I was able to install the other aplications that I wanted okay.
iMovie HD was the last "decent" version of the software. The susequent version was emasculated and bastardised to the extent that there were simillar howls of rage to the ones that are being posted with the arrival of Final Cut Pro X.
Thanks AllI don't think you can run iMovie HD on 10.7. It's a PowerPC application, which only runs on Intel via Rosetta
That's not true. iMovie HD 6 is a Universal Intel app as indicated by System Profiler and Activity Monitor
and runs fine on Lion.
