Why can't I keep my songs on my ipod and still sync a movie?

I am new at this.. I bought a movie and want to sync it to my iPhone/iPod but a message tells me I will lose my music when I sync the movie.  Why can't I have the music and movie?  Why does one replace the other? I appreciate the help you can give me.  Thanks!

Thank You.  I will work with the information you gave me and see if I can
learn what is going on.

Subject:        Why Can't I Put My Clips on Certain
Video and Audio Tracks?
Any kind of source video can go on any video track in a sequence.
Therefore, it's the audio that is causing the problem.
Your source clips can have three potential audio channel assignments
(actually, there are more, but they are just combinations of these three).
A source clip can have mono audio, stereo audio, or 5.1 audio.
Correspondingly, there are specific types of audio tracks that must be in
a sequence in order for source clips with specific source channels to be
edited into them. If you drag a clip to a sequence, and there is not an
audio track that matches the source channels of the source clip, a new
track will be created that matches, e.g. a stereo track for a stereo
source clip. However, if you try to insert or overlay a source clip into a
sequence that doesn't have a matching track, the audio will be ignored.
In the sequence, you can tell what sort of audio track you're working with
if you look for the little speaker icon that appears just to the right of
the track header label (Audio 1, Audio 2, etc.). A single speaker is mono,
a double speaker is stereo, and "5.1" is displayed for 5.1. You can add
tracks manually by right-clicking the header area and selecting Add
Tracks, or going to Sequence > Add Tracks.
It sounds like you're working with media with various audio assignments;
the Project Panel display will tell you how many channels are in your
source clips if you don't know for sure. Once you know that, you can
control where your clips go when you attempt to add them to a sequence.

How can I, or can I export my songs on my iPod back to my computer?
The songs on my iPod Video 5th Gen now, were at one time on my computer, but have since been erased. Why can't I export the songs from my iPod back on to my computer? I have this same problem with my other devices (iPad 3rd Gen and iPod Nano 6th Gen). I am really frustrated now, because it seems as if I have to start all over again. This will be a royal pain in the butt! I don't understand why Apple makes this so hard and impossible to do this. Please help, anybody!!

  • Why can't I download the songs from my ipod to my compute

I'm getting insanely frustrated right now. I got an ipod about a month ago and was ecstatic. I could finally get the 12 gb of music off my computer (all songs I've taken the time to copy from my own legal cds) and onto my ipod. So I got the new itunes and I copied copied all the files to my library and then from there onto my ipod.
I then made sure they all played on the ipod and once they did I made sure that itunes was set to manually manage songs and then removed them from my library clearing my hard drive of them.
Then my ipod starts having issues, it will just randomly restart for no apparent reason, so I take it in to the apple store and they just want to restore it which will wipe all my music. So I say uhm no, can I please back it up first and they say they don't support that.
What the heck is going on here, why does it make any sense to have to leave the music on teh computer?!? It's a portable music device!
I found there are programs that will copy the files back but they cost money which makes no sense. Basically Apple has hijacked my songs and won't give them back.
I'd email them directly about the issue but I can't find any sign of an email link anywhere on teh webpage.
Any help would be much appreciated and please forgive the rant but I'm really getting sick of my ipod restating constantly.

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod to discourage it's use as a device for mass file sharing. However there is a manual (free) method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes

  • Why can't I access the songs on my ipod after the software update?

I own three ipods (60G video, 30G video, and 4g mini) which I load on three different computers. I manually update them. I load music from my CD collection and they eacg have different music on them. The 30G was a recent purchase (used) and the first time that I hooked it up it required that I update my software (I have only done this on one of my computers). After the update, when the Ipod loads, the itunes shows the number of songs on the ipod but will not display the actual songs. None of the songs on the ipod are in any of my existing libraries as I tend to clear the librarries after loading the songs so that i do not fill up my computers with this stuff. Is there some setting that I should change to be able to view and modify these old songs on my Ipod short of blowing them all out and starting AGAIN? My Ipod video probably has 8,000 songs on it so I am not thrilled about starting again. Also, i can no longer play them through my computer because it will not pull up the list. Any advice would be appeciated. Thanks

Such a simple fix. I really did look at a lot of reference stuff to find the answer but could not.

  • Why can't I transfer a song to my iPod Touch after I have deleted it from my iPod?

The song is still in iTunes but won't transfer to my iPod any more. I used to do this weekly - adding songs to use for Story Times and then deleting them. I could always transfer them again. Now I can't. I have only noticed this since the latest update.

What model iPod do you have? On the 4G and later can play/sync HD videos. You may have t use a third-party program to convert to compatible format.

  • HT1414 how can a friend keep my songs but make ipod his own

A friend gave me his Ipod, but it has been registered to him. I dont want to delete all songs, movies or podcasts that are on it, but I would like to put my Itunes music on it also. Please help, Itunes will not allow me to sync ipod to my account!

... Itunes will not allow me to sync ipod to my account!
Sure it will, you will just lose its previous content. An iPod can only sync one music library, yours or your friend's.

  • Why can't I erase the songs on my ipod on Itunes?

I opened up Itunes and it started loading all the music in my library to my ipod. I stopped it, but now i cannot seem to erase the songs from Itunes. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. I was thinking if I let all the songs download onto the ipod i could then delete the songs.

I'm clicking, but there is no tab or anything that
    says restore.
On the Summary screen there's "iPod" showing a picture of your iPod, name, software version, serial number and format.. . NEXT there's Version, under which there's the text:
"If you are experiencing problems..." and a restore button. IF you don't see that , then you'll either have to expand the iTunes window or scroll the summary screen.

  • Why can i not just add songs to my iphone instead of syncing the whole library?, why can i not just add songs to my iphone instead of syncing the whole library?

Previously I had a blackberry, if I wanted to add a song, all i had to to was drop and drag it to the device.  Is there a way to just ADD a song and not have to sync the whole library?  My daughter and husband and I all share music, but I don't want ALL his music on my phone, just some of the songs, and my daughter likes some of mine and some of his... you get the idea.... how do I just ADD songs without syncing the whole catealoge of music?

  • I have a fifth gen Ipod and have changed computers. I was not able to transfer all the music over when I created an itunes account on the new computer. How can I save all the songs on my ipod and upload new ones? It wants to sync with my new account.

I have a fifth gen ipod classic. I switched computers and was not able to transfer the songs and pictures over. When I connect my ipod to the computer it wants to sync with it which would delete all my songs and music. Is there a way around this?

  • Why can I no longer sort songs by popularity?

Why can I no longer sort songs by popularity?

It seems this is a "backwards" upgrade from Apple in their iTunes 11 release....like you, I used to use that function in the iTunes store to sort through and decide which song version to purchase.   (For a large returned list of songs...see all...then sort by any of the headers, including Popularity...this functionality is now gone.)
The iPad always suffered from this...was never able to sort on those same column headers with an iPad.   It seems, this new iTunes release killed that functionality on the Mac as well.
Just one of the few things that went wrong with number 11!
    Better luck next time,

  • Why can't I get certain songs off my iPhone??!

16 gig iPhone 4S, running iOS 7. I can't delete these stupid songs from the phone and no matter how many times I re-sync they don't go away!!

These are probably songs that you have either deleted in iTunes, or deleted from the phone that were synced to the phone at one time. This is how it determines to put the cloud symbol beside them. iTunes Match is that way as well. Of course, if you would have mentioned the cloud earlier, it would have ended earlier too. Glad you got it sorted.
