Why can't I listen to my podcast?

Hi,
Totally new to podcasts. Downloaded one and I press play in iTunes, but nothing happens. I double click it and it just checks for the most recent episode. Thank you.

I'm guessing that what you're double-clicking on is the podcast entry in the iTunes store podcast directory? You can't play podcasts from there - it's just like music, except you don't even get the 30 second sample.
Once you've downloaded an episode, you go to Podcasts in your Library and play the downloaded copy.
If I guessed wrong, maybe you could describe in more detail what you're doing and seeing.

I can download and listen to other podcasts but none from NPR.
I have tried downloading the podcasts on computers that run Windows 7 and Windows 8.  Other podcasts, music etc. download fine.
    iTunes version:  11.3.0.54
I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling iTunes and I have tried unsubscribing and resubscribing to the podcasts.
I don't have trouble getting NPR podcasts from the store. I just can't play them in iTunes.

For additional context and to verify if we are talking about the same behavior.  Here is what the download screen looks like on my iPod:

  • Why can't I listen to radio stations and run a download on the ipad2 at the same time as with the original iPad

why can't I listen to radio stations and run a downloaded program at the same time with the ipad2 as I could with the original iPad?
is there something in the new one that I have not turned on?

Nothing needs to be turned on. What apps are you attempting to use? Perhaps the versions you have don't support background operation.
    Regards.

Why can't I listen to a take folder on solo?

I'm finding the same issue and not finding a work-around. Solo button no longer works to solo audio tracks' take folder regions. This seems to be another new problem / change / bug with 9.1.4 update. Grrr.

  • Why can't I listen to music and read the ny times simultaneously?

Why can't I listen to music and read simultaneously?

hmm, well have you ever tried to run the music app in the bakground before? Double click the home button and bring up the music app. Select you music and you should hear it when you switch back to your NY times.app.
You can do this. HOWEVER, never used the NY times app before. ****IF the NY times has streaming media capability, this would be why you can't listen to music simultaneously while reading.
Not all news readers have the ability to allow music in the background.
    Hope this helps!

  • Why can't I fast forward my podcasts?

I've just installed the new (disastrous) version of iTunes and I can't fast forward my episodes! This means that if I don't listen/watch an episode until the end and just click on something else on iTunes (for example, another episode of another podcast) I'll have to watch the whole thing again! This is most annoying, as my episodes are typically one-hour long. What is going on?
I also noticed my old episodes (the ones I intended to keep so I could watch again) are mostly gone, and I didn't have any backups because, until now, if I wanted to keep my epidodes, all I had to do was not delete them.
Seriously, I do love Mac but iTunes is really not the best thing they've ever come up with.

No, not all ... just some of the purchased music tracks, and most of those concentrated in recent releases.
Your options are to either work with ITMS Support to get your d/l tracks replaced (frequently they'll be okay on the second try, but not always), or can go through a complicated sequence of burning off to CD and then reimporting the track (which seems to almost always work).
There are multiple threads about this very issue in this and other forums; a quick use of the Search window would have given you your answer before ever having to post.

  • Why can't I listen to NPR's Favorite Sessions?

Hello~ Why am I not able to view/listen to NPR's Favorite Sessions? I have Adobe Flash Player and it's up to date. Using Mountain Lion and current Safari? HELP!

Apparently I can go to the link below the video screen and hear the audio version. But the video version above does not work for me. I have Adobe Flash Player. It is current; I tired disabling my firewall, emptying cache, removing cookies..nada. The videos just won't connect. When I right click I get a choice for more info about "JW Player ( Licensed Version)". What's that all about? I shouldn't have to download that player should I? Hmmm..I contacted NPR and haven't heard back yet.
I guess I am the only person having this problem. Lucky me.

  • Why can't I listen to my Italian radio stations anymore?

Until I updated my laptop and my iTunes app, I had dozens of Italian radio stations stored, which I used to listen to from time to time.   Now, none of them work!  Why is this?
It surely can't be copyright problems, because I can buy (and have bought) apps for them for my iPhone, and many of them are internet (web) radio stations and thus available to everyone.   Is this a bug, or something I need to change in settings or something?
    Any help gratefully received!

I am not going to create an account to test Sirius but from what I can see they have an option to "use previous player". Does this work for you?

  • Why can't I listen to my audiobooks after syncing my iPad?

I recently purchased two audiobooks at around £15.00 each. Later, I then synced my iPad with iTunes and came back on my iPad to find that I could no longer listen to my new audiobooks, they are still in my music app but they can't be selected. I don't understand why as they were working perfectly before. Does anyone know how I can fix this in order to listen to them again?

    Aspen,
Make sure the song files are on the hard drive of your computer.  Then you can listen to your local copies.
If you are listening to the versions in the iCloud, you will need to be connected.

  • Why can't I listen music when i play games on ipad 3

I used to play games while listening to music on my old ipad. With the new ipad, I can't. Is there anything I can do to be able to play games while playing music?

Evidently - and I am adminittedly speculating - some app will pause another audio source when they are started of have an audio stream of their own. In most cases, the built in Music App will continue playing when another app is closed, unless something like Netflix or the Podcast app is started. I"m guessing the mix of apps you are using works something like that. Very unlikley there is anything you can do to change it.

  • Why can't Chapters created in GarageBand podcasts be viewed as large screens in iTunes and iPads using iMac OS 10.8.5 and iPad iOS7?

I created podcasts using GarageBand and added artwork as chapters to the audio naration. In the old iTunes they would show up as seperate large screenswhich could be easily read by other on a large monitor.  While they can be seen as tiny pictures when you click on Chapters in the menu bar at the top, they are not large enough for students or audience members to see.
I also create these to go on my iPad. Withe the old version of iTunes, they could fill up the screen on the iPad. in iOS7 they are small, do not change with the audio as they are supposed to, and you only can see the next screen if you touch the < in the top left, go back to the previous screen and then touch "Now Playing".  Since they do not automatically go to the next chapter artwork screen as the audio is playing, you would have to just know when to make the change.
This now defeats the whole purpose of the ability to add artwork or any visual guide that would go along with the podcast that was created in GarageBand and sent to iTunes.
Even when you make the podcast into a movie, which does show the artwork as the audio is playing, you still can't control it by having the chapters available as they used to be in the seperate window. This used to be in the control of the three lines on the bottom right side of the screen which now are the list of the next podcasts. In fact, on my iMac screen, the window is also very small. You can't make it larger like you could in the earlier version of iTunes.
It is such a disappointment to me that this has changed.
I can still use my old iPod to do the podcast the way I have described above, and fortunately I can show those using AppleTV on a large monitor, but if I wanted to send the podcast to students to place on the iPad, they would no longer have the full value of what GarageBand creates.
Is there any other program that could be used on the iPad that would not only have the artwork chapters in sync with the audio, but would have a way to quickly go from one chapter to another should a student wish to skip parts of a podcast and only review certain portions?
If nothing is available now, is there anyway to get a message to the iTunes people to get this back into the iOS7 devices? I wish someone could let them know what a loss it is to those of us who have used these applications for this kind of teaching or studying.
Please create another iPad app that would work with GarageBand for this kind of podcast!!!
I use an iMac OS 10.8.5 and an iPad iOS7.
    Thanks

I'm going to reply to my own message. After spending some time trying to solve this problem, I found an application called Chapter Maker in the App Store. It is reasonably priced and once you have turned your podcast sent to iTunes into a movie by opening it in QuickTime, you can either just show it through QuickTime on your desktop or laptop computer, or if you want it to work in iTunes the way it used to work, you can send it from QuickTime to iMove (go to file/Export to... iMovie) where you can then export it as a movie to your desktop and open in Chapter Maker where you can add the chapter headings back in to the podcast and Export it. You can then add it back into the movie folder in iTunes where you can see the visuals in full screen and navigate through the chapters quickly.
I also tried this out by connecting my iPad to my computer and moving the movie into my iPad. While it doesn't have the chapters visible to navigate quickly to a chapter heading, you can touch the play screen and drag it to the places you need to review. Not as nice as the old iOS version, but it also does show the visual screen using the full screen of the iPad.
As I mentioned earlier, on my older iPod, I am able to view the visuals in full screen and by touching the list at the top right, it turns over to navigate through chapters with clearly labeled headings.
I use this to study topics for myself and also to pass on information to students.
I do wish they had kept the old version the way it was, but guess that's the way things go.
Check out the application in the App Store called Chapter Maker if you are looking for the same solution to this problem. Even if you aren't, it's an easy way to add sections to any video.

  • Why can I no longer find my podcast under the keywords in my feed?

We're having problems with our podcast showing up on itunes. A few weeks ago, our podcast just stopped appearing under the proper keyword searches. Our podcast is called Sequence Break XIV and out itunes url is: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/sequence-break-xiv/id455566304
The keywords you should commonly be able to find us under are FFXIV, Final Fantasy XIV, and Final Fantasy. Not only is our podcast no longer under those search terms, but almost every podcast that used to be under the search term "FFXIV" has disappeared except for two.  It really just looks like something is buggy here. When you first search for "FFXIV" for example, the screen that pops up shows all the different media you can look under. The "Podcasts" section shows a preview of three podcasts. Yet when you click on the podcasts section, only 2 podcasts show up. So something is wrong here.
Our feed can be found at http://zantetsuken.net/feed/podcast
We haven't changed the feed details at all besides episode updates. We really need to know what's going on ASAP. Although our podcast comes up when you search for things like Sequence Break XIV or SBXIV, or terms that specifically deal with our podcast, the most important terms that I mentioned earlier (FFXIV, Final Fantasy XIV, and Final Fantasy) don't show us at all. It only seems to affect the most popular and most important search terms. But all those terms are in the keyword field are on our feed. New listeners interested in Final Fantasy XIV won't be able to find us this way.

I still can't see it. I had two other people try to look it up and they can't see it as well. This has been tried in WIndows 7 and Mac OSX. Both with fully updated iTunes applications. I'm also worried about the other keywords associated with my podcast not bringing it up either. Searching FFXIV only brings up the first two podcasts for me. Searching Final Fantasy XIV brings up a ton of podcasts, but ours isn't listed. Here's a screenshot of what I'm seeing when I search for FFXIV.

  • Ipad2, why can I not listen to musik in one Safari tab, While reading in another?

In safari, ios5-ipad2, musik and movies pause when i switch tabs. WHY is that?!! It must be possible To play something in the background this century!

It's possible on the iPad, just not in the way you want to do it. Almost all player apps play in the background under multi-tasking, no problem. I've not tested Safari to see if it also does because, frankly, haven't yet discovered a need to use the browser for anything like that.
If it is possible, though, you can use one obvious workaround: Get the music playing in Safari and then use any of the other browsers available to do whatever it is you need to do in the other one.
