Why can't I load Mountain Lion?? 2008 plastic molded Macbook running 10.7.4. Plenty of space on my HD?

Why can't I load Mountain Lion on my 2008 plastic molded Macbook? Running 10.7.4 now with plenty of space on HD. Is this just the scam to get me to buy a new computer?

I can't down load mountain lion, it starts and stops 53.03mb and wont carry on.

    This is probably why:

If your Mac has OS X Lion, MPEG-2 functionality is built in and the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component is unnecessary. This playback component requires QuickTime 7.6 or later, or QuickTime 7 Pro.

  • Why can't I get Mountain Lion version 10.8.3 on my MacBook?

I have Mountain Lion version 10.7.5 on my MacBook but when I check for software updates it tells me my computer is up to date.
I have MLV 10.8.3 on my iMac.

You have to Upgrade to 10.8, not update. 10.7 and 10.8 are different operating systems. Each has its own set of updates.
If you puchased Mountain Lion (10.8) for your iMac, then you can download and install Mountain Lion onto your MacBook (if it is compatible). If the iMac came with Mountain Lion preinstalled, you will need to purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store to get it on your MacBook.

  • 500 gb new hard drive with 4 gb ram .. why can't i install mountain lion???

Sorry for the question because I'm sure the answer is out there.  But I've searched and searched and don't know why I can't download mountain lion!?!
I have a mid 07 macbook and have replaced the hard drive with 500 gb seagate and the memory with 4 gb ram.  Shouldn't I be able to downloan it with those specs?? It keeps telling me I can't.  I'm runinng 10.6.8 right now.
Thanks for your help in advance

It's mainly the video card. The Models 2,1 through 4,1 have video cards with non-upgradeable 32bit drivers. The model 5,1 Late 2008 and newer have at least the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 64bit drivers. Mountain Lion requires 64bit native drivers. Mountain Lion no longer supports Intel's GMA 950 or GMA X3100 graphics processors.
While Lion used some 32 bit and a lot of 64 bit code, Mountain Lion is pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture.

  • Why can't I install mountain lion on OSX 10.6.8 MACBOOK PRO?

I downloaded the mountain lion install app and now i can't install it I get the "This disk cannot be used to startup your computer" error when I try and install. If i back out to the main install page and try it again then i get this error "OSX cannot be installed on Macintosh HD". I have read similar posts and done appropriate responses such as verifying and reparing the HD. I have a Time Capsule that I backup to and I've tried disconnecting from it and ensured its not backing up during my attempts to install. Nothing seems to work. HELP!!!!
    Computer Stats:
    Early 2009 13" Macbook Pro
    Model identifier: macbookpro 5,5
    ram: 8GB
    HD space available: 60GB
    Processor: Duo core 2.53
Nothing out of the ordinary. I don't have any crazy setups, pretty much straight out of the box.

It was partitioned at one point when I had windows 7 on a boot camp partition. When I deleted it I formed it back into one partition. The only disk that shows up to choose in the installer is my main HD. Hope the pic helps.

The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Tech Specs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    Other countries...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...
Next... Check that your Mac meets the Requirements for Mountain Lion.
    Upgrade to Mountain Lion
With Regard to ML...  Check here for compatibility of 3rd party Software you may be using... Also note that Rosetta is no longer supported in Lion and Mountain Lion...
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
You should also consider more RAM... Get the Maximum you can for your Mac...
It is important to get the Correct and Matching RAM
    See Here  >  OWC RAM  >  http://www.macsales.com
The above site also has videos on how to Install RAM should you need it...

  • HT4946 why can't i complete mountain lion app

Hi.  I recently bought the update App for Lion to Mountain lion, and it will not go thru.  help?

This has worked for some people:
    - Sign out of the App Store (in the Store menu)
    - Quit the App Store
    - In Finder - Go>Go to folder...  (or Apple-shift-G)
    - Paste in the following "~/Library/Caches/ "
    - It will take you to a folder.  Delete com.apple.appstore
    - Launch the App Store.  Sign in and then reclick the Mountain Lion buy.  It won't charge you again.

  • Why can't I download mountain lion.

The app store will allow me to download free and paid apps.  But the app store won't even let me try to download it.  Any suggestions?

Make sure your Mac qualifies to install Mountain Lion >  Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
If your Mac qualifies, select Categories at the top of the App Store window then click Account under Quick Links right side of the App Store window.
Enter your Apple ID and password then click View Account. You may have to re enter your password twice.
That should take you to the Account Information window.
Click Edit to the right of Payment Type.
Make sure your credit or debit card credentials are correct including the Security code and expiration date.
Then click Done bottom right side of the window.
    Now try purchasing Mountain Lion.
If your payment information is correct, reinstall the App Store by downloading and installing the OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo)
It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.7.4
Then try the App Store again.
You may need to disable anti virus software before installing Mountain Lion.

  • Why can't I install Mountain Lion on my Macbook Air?

I get a "not compatible" message when I try to download from the app store, even thought it meets the spec requirements. Any ideas? It's a late 2008 Macbook Air (bought in August of '08 from the online Apple store) I'm currently running OS X 10.6.8
    Thanks

It doesn't. In this context, Late 2008 means a model originally sold on or after Oct 14, 2008.

  • Why can't I install mountain lion on my macbook pro?

It still works.  I bought it in 2007.  What will I have to give up?

Click on the Apple Menu's, "About This Mac," "More Info," "System Report," "Hardware," to identify your Mac. You need to have a MacBook Pro 3.1 as a minimum to support ML.

All he needs is the recovery disc assistant. It's a free download.
