Why can't I manage files in iPhone 4 like I can with my nano?
I have a 5th gen nano and when I connect to my PC I can't take files off of it and use it as, more or less, portable storage.
I've noticed that with my iPhone, when I connect it to my PC it won't let me save anything to the DCIM folder, what's up with that?
Is that normal? Is there a way to use it like a portable disk?

OK. Got it! Went to the original folder instead of the alias. Changed the admin privileges to "Read & Write" and, Whala! Now I don't have to enter my password every time I want to add, delete or replace a file in my Utilities folder.

Why are some of the file folders on my desktop showing up with a shaded color?
Why are some of the folders on my desktop showing up with a different folder color, a dark shad of blue, opposed to the default blue color?
I've searched and searched but all I can find are posts on how to change the color of your folder. I am concerned that maybe, I accidentally shared it or have done something I am not aware of. (Mac Mini, 2.3 i7, 1TB, 16GB RAM running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2)I don't know how many photos you're trying to post on one page but if you put too many PCs using Internet Explorer may have problems loading the page. I prefer to keep the number down to less than 50 and have more than one page which will be indicated by the page links at the top of the thumbnails:
These smaller pages will load faster and in more browsers.

Why is the music shuffle on the iPhone not like any other Apple device?
So lets say I had 3 songs in a playlist and the names of the songs were 1, 2, and 3. Both shuffle and repeat all are activated. If I were to open the playlist to see all the songs in it and i pressed shuffle it will select either song 1, 2, or 3 to play first. An example is it will play song 1, then 3, then 2. At the top of the screen under the music title, album, etc. it say (number of song) of (total number of songs) like 1 of 3. But after 3 of 3 it goes back to same song order of song 1, then after it plays song 2, then song 3. So the shuffle order is like 1, 3, 2, 1, 3, 2, 1, 3, 2..... If I had the same playlist on my iPad or iPod nano the shuffle is way better. It would be like 1, 3, 2, 3, 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 1.... It would mix up the songs more than the iPhone 5 which mixes it up when you press shuffle, but then plays the same order once all songs are completed.

The native iPhone OS doesn't allow that. I think there are several solutions to this, some of which may be against the AT&T or Apple rules. One legitimate solution is The Missing Sync for iPhone by mark/space (http://www.markspace.com).
Before I had an iPhone, I owned a copy of The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile. It was a pretty decent app. In my opinion, though, their app for the iPhone is NOT worth the price ($40 new, $25 for a cross-grade).
Also, check the App Store (if you have 2.0 software)--there may be an app that does this, probably for a lot less $. -
Hi I tried to do an update on my Iphone 4 hardware but it failed (dont knoyw why) I followed instructions to restore my Iphone unfortunatel all im left with is an image of itunes with a usb and a dead phone can someone help???
Hey, I aggree with Tempelton for the most part, but if you are an advanced user on the computer on the phone, there is one thing you can try. There is a program called RecBoot, which might help you, and here is a page that might help you. http://jaxov.com/2010/05/recboot-iphone-recovery-mode/ If you are not an advanced user, I would NOT recomend using RecBoot, and just proceeding with the restore. A little consolation could be that you probably had Photo Stream on, and you might have been backing up to iCloud, which should mean you'll have some stuff after the resote. Sorry this happened!

I am a new iPhone 4s owner. I have a tone in iTunes that I downloaded from the web as a m4r file. Why won't it sync to my iPhone so I can set it as a ringtone?
LoisYes, the tone is available and checked in iTunes under the Tones library.
Yes, it is also listed under the Tones tab for my iPhone, but it is grayed out.
Yes, tones are selected under "sources" in General Preferences, along with everything else.
SyncTones was NOT selected under the Tones tab for my iPhone. I did so and it synced.

Why can't I update my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1? Every time I try it gets all the way done downloading it; however when it's processing the file the page tells me "There is a problem downloading the software for the iPhone. Network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active. or try again later." and next to the file it has err = -3259. I have tried this 17 times and it won't work. My iTunes is completely up to date. I have made sure that my connection is fine and I have tried turning my firewall off with no avail. This has happened to me before but usually the update will go through after 2-3 tries, never to this extent. I don't know what to do. Help!

When I open my files to download my pictures from my iphone 6 plus, there is a windows icon with a hard drive. What is that? And why can't I delete it? I already reset my phone and a week later they came back.
I download my pictures by:
!) Connecting my iphone to he computer.
2) It will open a window or I will go to my computer and select iphone device.
3) Open up Iphone folders and download.
When I do that, I see a windows icon, with what looks to be a hard drive. And when I click on it, it leads me back to my desktop. Right now, I only have one. I know by tomorrow I will have more. It just keeps spreading. -

I use my phone as a hotspot and I recently had to restore my windows computer, thus deleting the itunes program and installer... Sooooo I figure no big deal the iPhone shows up in windows 8 with a drive labeled "internal storage" why can I not simply download the windows installer file to that folder on my iPhone and run it on my PC ( much like a very over priced thumb drive) but no sir apple prohibits it's iPhone from downloading .exe files to anywhere on itself through safari ***???? Yes I can go to any public library and download it to a thumb drive in the morning but what to do all night???? ..... I got it vent about the infinite ways the control misers at Apple find to make the simplest of tasks next to impossible... Will once again be an android user in the bear future.... Expense is justified in defense if common sense... So to you apple I give -1 of 5 stars for overbearing control freak power hungry activities!!!!It's a phone, not a thumb drive. If you want to download an .exe file to a thumb drive, then buy one. We are not Apple here - we are just users like you, and this is a user to user technical help forum. So, if you have a technical question please ask it.

Why can't I view my icloud backups on a new apple device using the same icloud id? Unluckily I lost 4 iphones in 2 yrs. all had same icloud acct on them, so when i log on to locate my current iphone on my macbook or on new iphone, it shows a list of all the lost iphones and their data take up.
When i click on settings on my ios> go to icloud > storage & backup> manage storage:
LOST IPHONE 1- 4.5 GB DOCUMENTS & DATA : it shows PREVIEW 1.2 MB PAGES1.6 MB TEXT EDIT91.6 KB PHOTOS 3.2 GB
LOST IPHONE 2- 3.2 GB DOCUMENTS & DATA: it shows same thing just different gb's mb's kb's
LOST IPHONE 3- etc.......
but you can't click on those documents & data to show what exactly they are so you can move them or save and delete. If I go into icloud there's nothing there from that long ago. is that data deleted? if i were to get that certain iphone back and turn it on would the pics, docs still be in icloud? it says all that room in my icloud is still taken up so where can i view it?? anyone know??
THANK YOU!If you haven't already, you could force-quit Quicktime by using the menu option from the desktop (finder) and choose Quicktime.
Not sure what you have frozen on the screen, be it a failed movie, or some unusual screen shot. If you can find by date (created) you may be able to look for .mov or quicktime suffix name or other video file content to delete it.
And you may have to restart your computer and perhaps run repair disk permissions from Disk Utility's first aid on the hard disk drive in your computer.
Not sure if all that would help now, but it is something a few days late...!

I took some videos using my iPhone 5c and uploaded them to my computer. I can play the videos in iPhoto, but when I open them in QuickTime, they are dark and silent. Why can't I see them in QuickTime?
Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
