Why can't I open new PDF files into iBooks

I cannot open new PDF files in iBooks, they flash really quick in PDF folder then disappear. I'm really frustrated

I am running Safari Version 5.1.5 (6534.55.3) on my iMac 10,1. After my last Adobe update, my pdf files are nothing but a black window. Have tried reverting to an earlier version of Adobe, but still getting a black window. What next steps should I take? Thanks.

After up grading to Adobe Reader XI why can't I open any PDF files?

I am running windows vista and had been using Adobe Reader 8 - when I upgraded, can not open any PDF files. When I attempt to open a PDF file, I receive the following messages:

I have already been there done that. I first Un-installed all of my adobe freeware (reader, flash player, air. etc) then started reinstalling. First I reinstalled reader (latest version Reader X), same error messages. added AIR (latest version not listed - Last updated April 1st, 2012 -
maybe that should tell me something), same error messages. I un-installed these two and reinstalled AdobeFlash Player,Adobe Shockwave Player,&Adobe Media Player, verifying that each worked after each reinstall of the next program everything was OK until I put Reader back on (NOTE: I dug all the way back to version 8 & still had the problem). for some unknown reason I finally right clicked on a PDF file on my desk top & was greeted with a the drop menu & he option of "open with" for fun I clicked on the "open with" & found that I had two options the first was a white Icon with the Stylized A and labeled Acrobat.com the second was the normal red Icon we all know & live
when I reset the default to the normal red Icon everything began to work just as I have always had adobe reader work. Now I have no clue how or when I picked up the "Acrobat.com" program even worse it does not show up under programs on the control panel. When I have a few moments this evening, I will run a search for "Acrobat.com" & hopefully be able to remove it from my computer.
Bottom line I don't know how I got the program which seems to have caused the breakdown of adobe reader but by resetting the default program to open PDF files it is now working as it should

Why can't I open any pdf files with any version of Adobe Reader after I upgraded?

Upgraded Adobe Reader not too long ago and after then it stopped opening pdf files. I had an old version of Adobe Acrobat and that opened the file no problem. I tried to downgrade Adobe Reader, but that didn't fix the problem.
Just tried to open Adobe Reader by itself without any files and it still crashed.
FYI – I’m using Windows 7 (Microsoft 2013)

It's not a good idea to have both Acrobat and Reader unless they're both of the same version number (like X or XI). Such a situation can cause all kinds of conflicts and crashes, as you've seen. Also, if you have an old version of Acrobat it's might not be compatible with your OS any more.

I am having a problem opening pdfs. I have tried several times to open a pdf from my school but it gives me a blank page but no text. Other pdf documents open fine. I contacted tech support for the school and they checked document and were able to open and view it. I have a Surface with Adobe Reader Touch installed on it. I have a similar problem. I can open, read, and save PDF files, but I can't view my online bank statement on my Mac. The statement opens automatically if I use a PC, but on my Mac the page says I need Adobe Reader to view my statement. I already have the latest version of Adobe Reader. The problem seems to be that that the plugin only goes to the Libray. It doesn't get installed into Safari or into FireFox either.

I'm sorry you're having trouble.Special PDF files such as PDF portfolios or secured PDF files or password protected source files cannot be previewed on Acrobat.com.
Please note that not being able to preview a file should not interfere with the successful viewing of the file once downloaded.
Are you able to open and view PDFs on your desktop? What happens if you try to download the file from Acrobat.com in a different browser?

Okay, I checked that and I could open the file when it said open with Adobe Reader. I guess I should have said when I tried to open something from the internet it gave me the file conversion window. Thanks so much for your help. I was able to view what I needed.

OK. You mean that it has fillable form fields. Those will not open in the mail app or in iBooks.
Download Adobe Reader in the App Store. It is free. Then go back to the mail app, tap on the PDF file to get the Open In window to pop up. When the Open In window pops up, select Adobe Reader. The PDF will open in Adobe Reader and be saved in there. You should be able to fill out the fields in the Adobe Reader app and then you can email it from there if needed.

Another possibility... If you have an older version of Excel, and the file you are trying to open is a new version with an .xlsx extenstion, then you need a converter to open it. (Sorry, I don't remember where to get it, because it didn't work for the first year that I tried it before I upgraded to Office 2011 at work.) Weird, since I'm able to open them on my iPhone, but not on my iMac. I've asked friends to save as an older version; some know how to use "save as".
It can also happen cross-platform. If your file is from someone using a new version on a PC, and you don't have the equivalent version on the Mac, it might not open. On the PC, the extension doesn't show, so they may not know what version it is. But when they pen Excel, it will say as it opens.

You cannot open files directly with Lr.
You have to import them.

Word is a text processor, not a PDF viewer. You can embed a PDF document in a Word document, but that's pretty much it. Besides Preview there are numerous third-party applications that can also view PDFs such as Adobe Reader.
