Why can't I open Photoshop CS5.1?

I can't open Photoshop CS 5.1 Extended.  I recently started adding CS6 applications, but I haven't installed Photoshop CS6 yet, because the Adobe website says that other CS applications can run side-by-side with CS6 applications on your computer.  Should I go ahead and install Photoshop CS6, or is there a simpler fix?

Have you tried restarting the computer?  What operating system are you using?   If Windows, bring up the Task Manager and go to the Process tab, and see if Photoshop is actually listed (but not showing on the screen).  If yes, a restart would hopefully fix it.

  • Why can't I open Photoshop CS5 with OSX Mavericks?

I download OSX9 the other day and I have found that some programs do not open. Today it is Photoshop CS5. Is there a trick to get it open besides an upgrade to CS5, which apparently is not currently available!

Today I just upgrade to Mavericks and have the same problem.  Even the same system (mavericks) pop up a window tell me to download the java run time upgrade  ...I canceled by mistake  ...and when I click the Photoshop icon  ...the same window pop up
After I install the java upgrade ...they opened just fine, all the CS5 ...even the CS3  ...just in case, give it one more shot.  maybe it will work.

  • Why can't I open Photoshop Elements 12? (Urgent!)

    - I've tried everything I can think of. Opening from the source, compatibility check, re-installing, just about everything you can think of.
    - My 7 days to activation is up tomorrow.
    - No error messages.
    - It tells me to sign in and register when I try to open the editor. I've registered both the products already. (Premiere + Photoshop, Premiere does the same thing) I sign in, and it tells me to wait a moment, then the sign in window closes and Photoshop never opens. The organizer will open however.
    - I tried chatting with customer support yesterday but I was disconnected because of bad connection. But I've tried opening Photoshop with two other decent internet connections to no avail.
    - Running on Windows 8
Please help, this is vital to my artwork and I spent $150 on it. I realize this may have nothing to do with Adobe and may have to do with my computer, but any advice/help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Why can't I open Photoshop

I am trying to open Photoshop CS but it's telling me that it is no longer supported

Adobe CS (2003) and CS2 (2005) are Power PC and sre not supported in 10.7. CS3 in 2007 was the first CS to have universal binaries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_binary
To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • Why can't I open my RAW files in my trial version of Photoshop Lightroom 4?

Why can't I open my RAW files in my trial version of Photoshop Lightroom 4? I use a Canon 5d mark II, which is supposed to be supported, and I checked for updates, but none were found.

You cannot open files directly with Lr.
    You have to import them.

  • Why does Bridge CC try to open Photoshop CS5

Double clicking on a RAW file in Bridge CC returns an error message saying that Photoshop CS5 could not be found.
I had both CS6 and CC installed. Double clicking on a RAW file in Bridge CS6 opened Photoshop CS6 (expected). Double clicking on a RAW file in Bridge CC opened Photoshop CC (expected).
I uninstalled everything related to CS6.
Now, double clicking on a RAW file in Bridge CC tries to opened Photoshop CS5!
How do I fix this?  How do I get Bridge CC to open raw files in Photoshop CC?
    Thanks.

Official answer from Adobe Support: manually map all file types to the desired version of Photoshop. The process is:
    1. Go to: Bridge CC   Edit | Preferences | File Type Associations
    2. Find file type mapped to "photoshop"
    3. Right click on the "photoshop" text | Browse
    4. Browse to the desired version of Photoshop | select it | Open
Repeat steps 2-4 for all instances of file types mapped to "photoshop." Hint: you can just double click on the desired version of Photoshop in step 4.

  • I downloaded OSX Yosemite and now I can't open Photoshop CS5

I downloaded OSX Yosemite and now I can't open Photoshop CS5. Says I have to download the new Java 6 script, so I did and it still won't open.
I try to open PS but I get a message (unexpected unrecoverable error) I was using PS before I downloaded Yosemite. Could downloading Yosemite some
how corrupted part of PhotoShop? Should I try and reinstall PhotoShop? I have a MacBook Pro 13"; 2011; 4g mem; intel core i5.
    Any suggestions?

You should check with Adobe, but it's likely they'll say that Photoshop CS5 isn't supported on Yosemite and they'll recommend you update to a new CC version, which of course requires a subscription.
It could be that Photoshop requires a Java installation (and probably an old one), that isn't running on Yosemite by default. Java 6 is not "new," it's in fact very old. I do think you can download Java 6 from Apple - check apple.com/support/downloads.

  • Why can't i open my Panasonic Lumix FZ45 RAW files in CS3?

why can't i open my RAW files?
    I have photoshop CS3 with camera raw plug-in 4.6.0.30 on MacBook Pro OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) and a Panasonic Lumix FZ45
I have checked the list of supported cameras and mine appears to be there.
I have no available updates in photoshop so assume that I am up to date with those.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    thanks

I have checked the list of supported cameras and mine appears to be there.
Yes, the Panasonic FZ45 is listed but it was first supported by Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 6.2.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Then go to this table to see which versions of Photoshop are compatible with ACR 6.2: CS5 and later. Not CS3.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
So your options are to upgrade to CS6 or subscribe to CC (check out the Photoshop Photography Program: PS CC + Lightroom 5).
Or download the free DNG converter, convert all your FZ75 Raw files to DNGs then open the DNGs in CS3

  • Why can't Bridge open my raw files from Canon PowerShot 120-S? Using PS/5

Why can't Bridge open my raw files from my new Canon Power Shot 120-S camera? I'm using PS-5 and had no problems with other Canon cameras. I downloaded Adobe Camera Raw 8 but this has not resolved the problem.
    Jack

    1. you need cr 8.3+ for the Canon PowerShot S120
    2. ps cs5 can only update to cr 6.7
free solution: use the dng converter: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5694
integrated solution: upgrade to ps cc.  here are the options (but especially note the photographer plan for 9.99/mo) - http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/buying-guide.html
