Why can't I open word email attachments on iPhone on io7

I was able to open email attachments before the io7 update, now I can't open any attachments in Word. I can open Excel but not Word. I've gone back to try and view Word attachments that I had opened and viewed with no issue  prior to the update and now I can't open them.

What happens when you try? More info would be helpful. In any case, the first thing to try is a reset, cures 99% of glitches. Hold down the home button along with the power button until you see the Apple, then let go.

I have now discovered if I drag the file from mail on to the WORD icon in the doc it will open....seems much clumsier than the old option of clicking on the file to open it
Opening attached pics seems to require the same action as well using iphoto.
A bit of a step back in my opinion....
Save the word file from the email to your Mac (have you never saved an attachment before)?
Post back when you can do as I asked you to.
And remember that we are trying to find out what is wrong, don't be so snappy!
haha...point taken. Wasn't feeling 'snappy' when I typed it, not intended as such...!
If I save it somewhere as you suggested I can then open it
also, as I mentioned if I drag the doc onto WORD in the dock it opens that way as well

  • Why can I not open PDF email attachments?

Normally on my iPhone I'm able to simply click on the PDF attachment at the bottom of an email and it opens for me to read but I just got an iPad and it doesn't seem to do that. When I click attachments in my email nothing happens.  But for instance when I try to open attachments I have saved in Dropbox they open perfectly fine.

Well something has changed since IOS came out. I can't open email attachments anymore in all apps.
Up until say 3 weeks ago I would tap on an email attachment (a PDF) and a menu of apps would appear. Normally I would choose Goodreader or iBooks to open the PDF. No problems. My iPad2 would switch to the app and open the PDF.
Now that IOS 6 is out when you touch the email attachment icons appear. Goodreader and iBook show up. But when i touch either one of these icons nothing happens. It won't switch to the app and open the PDF anymore.
Two other things. I do have other apps that appear such as PDFSplicer. If i choose it the iPad2 switches to that app and opens the PDF. It's only Goodreader and iBook that won't work anymore.
second, I went to my local Apple store and talked to the guys at the genius bar. I demonstrated the problem to them. They said it looks like a bug and suggested I send a bug report to apple. Never heard back from them.
    Any ideas?

  • I just downloaded Lion, why can't I open Word?

I just downloaded Lion, why can't I open Word?

If they are all PPC-only applications, then yes. CS2 is incompatible with Intel machines. Not knowing how old your iMovie version is, but if it goes back to the same time period then it won't work either until you upgrade all the old software to Intel or Universal binaries from the respective developers.
You can revert back as follows. Erase the drive and restore your Snow Leopard backup or:
    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

  • Why can't people view my email attachments?

    Hi,
I regularly send out emails using Mail with JPEG attachments but many people cannot see them. They simply get the following type of code/jargon.
What is going on and what is the solution?
    = --Apple-Mail-6--884313368 Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-Id: <64130CCA-BD61-4753-B324-DA10E1BF5B64@local> Content-Type: image/jpeg; x-mac-type=4A504547; x-unix-mode=0644; x-mac-creator=4D4B4259; name=ContactSheet-NWS001.jpg Content-Disposition: inline; filename=ContactSheet-NWS001.jpg /9j/4AAQSkZJRgABAQEAtwC3AAD/2wBDAAQDAwMDAwQDAwQFBAMEBQcFBAQFBwgGBgcGBggKCAgI CAgICggKCgsKCggNDQ4ODQ0SEhISEhQUFBQUFBQUFBT/2wBDAQUFBQgHCA8KCg8SDwwPEhYVFRUV FhYUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBT/wAARCAeYBVgDAREA AhEBAxEB/8QAHQABAAEFAQEBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUCAwQGBwgBCf/EAHwQAAEDAwMCAwQFBQkHCg8A IwECAwQABREGEiEHMRMiQQgUUWEVIzJxg.... etc.
    PowerMac G5 2.0Ghz DP / iBook G3 800Mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I cannot completely interpret that jargon but i do recognize it... you can see that it's basically saying the following file is a jpg... but the software that is receiving it has not interpreted it as a file so instead has just displayed it as text.
This seems to happen both ways around (with files from pc's too) I'm no expert on the subject but i have a feeling it's to do with the different character sets that the two OS use (one of the many fundamental differences like big endian little endian with PPC and X86) although that is not necessarily an OS specific thing.
Anyway, the actual content (in the jpg format is an OS independent format, however i think the header of the file is subject to character set types...This is also a problem on servers with different character sets... you may have tried to download a dmg but ended up with a browser page full of code. This can be resolved by right clicking and selecting "save as". I find that some of the time this can rescue files sent to me by windows users. (you may have to add the appropriate extension yourself)
If the jargon is received by the user when clicking the link then ask them to right click and use "save as" and make sure the file name uses the .jpg extension.
If they still can't open them then archive (zip) your files before you send them, this will protect them from any servers they pass through with different character sets and i think zip will make sure it extracts it regardless of the character set. (this is also a good method for retaining res forks of older mac files from server file-systems that do not support them).
    Hope that solves your problem.
    Thomas,
