why can't i play .wmv file in quicktime even after i download codec from windows? can anyone help me wit this please!!!!!

Have you done the obvious things to try to fix it: quit Quicktime then start it back up again, log out then back in, reboot.
Edit: Just read one of your later posts. If VLC won't play it, this is unrelated to Quicktime and Flip4Mac. Are you sure these wmv files are okay?

Why can't I play any videos on Firefox Mobile? I know that currently Firefox Mobile does not support Flash, but mp4 videos will not play either.

So true. I insall Perian, Flip4Mac (because they work so well with Quicktime) and always have MPEG Streamclip on hand and anything I can't play now, well I really don't worry about. Have never tried MPlayerX but looks like it may be worth a punt.

  • Why can't iTunes play avi. files?

I have videos that are in avi format, can iTunes convert them into something it can play?

The previous answer was very misleading. It implies that iTunes can't be made to play AVI files. That is not true. If QuickTime can be made to play AVI then so can iTunes and FrontRow. The following open source component is free, and a piece of cake to install (as shown in the hand-holding video on its site). See "perian.org".
Installing perian will immediately make QuickTime player and FrontRow be able to play AVI files. Stick your .avi files inside your "Movies" folder so you can navigate to them in FrontRow (without having to trick iTunes into importing them).
To import into iTunes, one more trick is needed since itunes doesn't recognize .avi files...they need to have a special sort of alias file created for each. Apple provides the free developer program MakeRefMovie which does that. (The program is all over the web if you don't really want to sign up for free developer status...google "download MakeRefMovie")

  • How to play MIDI files on Firefox for Android?

When I click on a link in a web page at points to a MIDI file (that has a .mid file extension), I receive a error stating that it cannot play the audio file. In the desktop version of Firefox, there typically is a way to associate external applications to execute "something reasonable" with the file. This presumably means that Firefox first downloads the file, and then executes the external command on the temporary downloaded file to view or play the file. Does it work similarly in Firefox for Android?

    Hi bgoodr,
It is a similar process, but different functions on the version of Firefox. For further investigation do you happen to have an example where this type of file can be downloaded and what app that youare using to open the .midi file?

  • Why can't I open zip-files using Firefox?

Every time I try to open a zip-file using Firefox all it does is open new tabs. I end up with dozens, sometimes hundreds, of open tabs that have nothing on the pages and the file never gets opened. Why does this happen? Is there a way to fix it and if so, how?

Set Adobe Acrobat to handle PDF files, not Firefox.

  • Why can't I open PDF files in Firefox?

I cannot get PDF files to open for viewing in Firefox. I am on Mac OS platform. This seems to be such an ongoing issue. I have followed the troubleshooting procedures to no avail. I like the look of Firefox better than Chrome, but I am switching over to Chrome because PDF's are so much easier to handle on Chrome, and I am sick of wasting time with this. Any last minute tips or advice?

The Adobe Reader plugin may not be working properly on Mac.

Disable the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and use the external Adobe Reader application or Preview application instead.
PDF files may be found under entries like Portable document or Adobe PDF document or Adobe Acrobat Document.
*Firefox > Preferences > Applications > Adobe PDF document : Use Adobe Reader

  • Why can't I play .mov files on my IPAD?

The file plays ok on IMAC. Is there an app I can download?

    Hey there Bencat45,
It sounds like you have a video that is not playing at all on your iPad. I was thinking the next best thing to do would be to create an iPad version then sync that video to your iPad and try again. This article will help you with that:
iTunes: Videos may be unable to sync to iPhone, iPad, or iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1497
    Other video sources
If you didn't purchase your videos from the iTunes Store, they may not be a format that you can play on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. In many cases, you can convert them to the correct format using iTunes.
Depending on your device, choose one of these options:
Select a video and choose File > Create New Version > Create iPod or iPhone Version.
Select a video and choose File > Create New Version > Create iPad or Apple TV Version.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Why can't iTunes play .flac files?

You'd think in this day and age a company like Apple would mature and get over its snobbery about playing generic audio formats in iTunes.
So whats the story Apple, why are your latest products still incapable of playing such a generic audio format?

Why do you say I would think this?
    I don't.
Far more people use (and are just fine with) AAC & MP3.

  • Why can't i play .wav files its ridiculous

is it because if its .wav it means it wasnt bought off the itunes store?? I'm sick of this sh*t!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately apple computers do not play windows media such as WMV or WAV. You must convert it or get an quicktime extension called "Perian" that will allow you to play windows type of medias and additional extension via quicktime. I'm not sure if it helps for iTunes but it might solve your problem.

  • Why can't I open pdf files in firefox anymore?

When opening pdf files it will only go in a loop and won't stop making new tabs.
The only way to stop this is by clicking on the home button several times or close firefox

It depends. When a server says that a file is of the application/pdf content type, it should load in the built-in PDF viewer, or in the Adobe plugin. However, if the server says it is a different content type, even if it has a .pdf extension, directing Firefox to open it can lead to an infinite loop of more and more tabs or windows opening.
The typical strong medicine for this is to rename the settings file that associates the problem content type with Firefox. This also will delete any past associations created for different content types and revert to the default.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
    * File menu > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''mimeTypes.rdf''' to something like mimeTypes.old
Start Firefox back up again and you should get the standard behavior. This time, if Firefox doesn't know how to handle a PDF, please do not redirect it to open in Firefox. (If Firefox knows how to handle it, it won't pop the question in the first place.)
If I've misunderstood what happened, could you give a link to the problem download?

  • I can't play midi files.

    Hi,
I have the latest version of iTunes and Quicktime but I can't play midi files with Quicktime anymore. I have to remove iTunes to be able to play them. Does anyone know how to fix this so I can have iTunes and play midis too? They used to play on my computer so I don't know what's going on.
    Thanks!

Do you have QuickTimeMusic.qtx and QuickTimeMusicalInstruments.qtx (and their resource directory) in your Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem directory?
And you may need to remove some codec packs include QuickTime support.
And why you have to use QuickTime synthesizer for MIDI files? It uses obsolete technology and a small soundfont (from about 1997) and without proper support for Yamaha XG MIDI files?

  • Can't play mid files in Audigy2

I have installed my Audigy 2 ZX for months. I found it couldn't play midi files until recently. I had tried to cleansweep both the drivers and Creative's applications several times but no help. It is silent whenever I playback those files. What I noticed that the option of midi playback in Multimedia was blank. I had chosen different options but it return to blank next time.
    Anyone can help? TIA.
    Regards,
    Michael

    It should work.
. Double-click the speaker icon near the clock.
    2. Select Options>Properties, put dot in Playback circle.
    3. Put a checkmark in the Midi Synth box and click OK
    4. Make sure Midi Synth is not muted and that it's volume control is near the top.
Of course, you also need a player which will play midi files. Many do, but I prefer
