Why can't I quit Safari?

The Xs within each tab of Safari are gone, so I have to right-click each tab and select "Close tab." Then when I go to "File," the "Quit Safari" option is grayed out. I right-click on the Safari icon on the dock, and select "Quit Safari," but nothing happens. I've tried restarting my computer, but it says that Safari is open and won't allow it to restart. What's up with that?

Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Reluanch Safari.
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.

Or you can actived the right button on your magic mouse and click on they icon in the dock. then you select "stop" and it's out of your dock.

You can remove Dashboard from you dock so you won't see the arrow under it anymore. It's basically a system process not an application & so really isn't easy to "quit". If you're concerned about resources, Dashboard itself takes up very little, but any widgets you have on the dashboard can use resources. If you remove all the widgets from the dashboard (just displayed, not available for use), your resource usage of dashboard goes to basically nothing.

What has happened to safari? Macbook pro 10.10. After installing antivirus, I can only get and use firefox.

I use DiskWarrior, Drive Genius, Onyx, Cocktail and BatChmod and have for years and while most if not all of what they do can be done from the terminal these save time and give me an interface thats easier for me to work with. These are some of the many legitimate Mac utilities but not the only ones. There are really just a handful of bad ones, MacKeeper happens to be the most controversial of them and on these forms I have not seen anyone defending it, but I have read supposed experts who claim it's legit on Mac websites from time to time.

Why can't I enlarge safari bar and bookmarks bar so the print is larger. I can only do this if I change resolution on display. I do not want to make my 27" smaller. Any comments?

After just installing Mountain Lion on mid 2011 iMac 27" I find it does not allow increasing size of font for Safari bar and Bookmarks bar. The print is so small it is difficult to see. I can change resolution of screen but the the size of the screen becomes smaller. Not what I had in mind when I bought this iMac. Is there any fix out there and is Apple working on this problem? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

Why can't I browse Safari on my iPod Touch 5 with iOS 8

Okay, I have had my iPod Touch 5th Gen for a few months now and I love it. The problem is, I can't search in the Safari app. Before I downloaded iOS 8, I could search on the Safari app and had no problem at all. Now that they came out with iOS 8, though, I can not search one letter in Safari without it crashing. I can't use the little gray box and have to use the Google bookmark for all of my searches.
Is anyone else having this problem or know the answer?

I have Safari 3.0.4 and I want to upgrade to 3.1.2 but when I go to "Software Update..." in the Apple menu it says "Your software is up to date." Then I tried downloading it from apple.com and when I ran the Installer it said "This update is for Mac OS 10.5.2 or newer." and I don't know why it doesn't work because I have 10.5.4.

Are you sure you have Safari 3.0.4? Software update knows what you're running, so if it says you're up to date, you should already be running 3.1.2, or 3.1.1 at a miniumu. If you go to About Safari, what does it say, exactly for the version, including the Build number?

Why can't I play Safari and Chrome videos in the background anymore?

Before iOS 6, I was able to play videos on Safari and Google Chrome while the app is running in the background. I really enjoyed playing music from YouTube videos in the background whilst multitasking on other things. How come I can't do this anymore? Is it a copyright/compatibility issue or something? When I play a video, and pull up the app switcher to play the music, it has the app there, but when I press Play it doesn't do anything.

I did more research and found that after the 4.2.2 update if you leave the @me.com or @mac.com OFF of your "add mobileme account when logging onto ATV that the error message: cannot load content, try again later goes away and allows your Gallery movies to play. Hope this helps.

Why can't I send Safari image from MacBookPro to AppleTV3?

I can use ATV3 to view photos, etc. from my MBP. My problem: I'm viewing a TV show via Safari on my MBP. I want to view it on my TV set. I turn on AirPlay to Apple TV (3). My desktop with the Safari window starts to appear on my TV, but that image soon lags further and further behind what I'm seeing on my MBP; the TV image also get blurrier. Not long afterward, the TV image goes off and AirPlay stops. I'm using AirPort Time Capsule wireless connection. So...what am I doing wrong and/or not understanding?

You're right...network interference. I didn't have to connect by ethernet. The solution was simpler: I had had my MBP with me in front of the TV, which is remote (another room) from the Time Capsule. The signals had a long back-and-forth route to take. So I simply moved my MBP back to its usual place near the Time Capsule and the transmission problem disappeared. Thanks again for your help.
