Why can't I receive email from myself?

I want to forward email to my own account in order to change the subject line and file it but when although it's in the "sent" folder, it never shows up in my new mailbox. I am using Mail, I recently upgraded to Tiger. Any ideas? I've made sure my own address is in the Address Book, to no avail.

It's a POP account with Verizon.net. And having said that,
I just tried going to my mail via the browser instead of Mail and found the problem was that Verizon.net was putting my verizon.net mail into the Spam folder! Go figure. When I identified myself as "not spam" (duh) it released it to my Mail account.
Problem solved!! Thanks to everyone who helped!

Thanks for responding to my query. I.ve already done as you suggested. The thing is in a test, which included the same email to my daughter ,where we asked the Australian recipient to type the return address - My daughter received the answer - but I did not. I'm thinking is there something I need to untick on my Mac? At first I thought it was because the computer in Australia wasn't a Mac - but as I say my daughter has the same model as me and she is receiving the reply's Any more thoughts?

If you are unable to send or receive email, try the following steps:
Restart the iOS device.

Try an alternative Internet connection.
If your email is provided by your Internet provider, try connecting from the home network.

Try going to setting->general->reset-> reset network settings. And see if that works.
You may also want to contact your carrier and see if there is anything funny going on with your profile.

On 5/1, when launching Mail, it asked me to update to new settings or use old settings. I should have kept the old settings. Instead, I had to set up all of my email accounts again. Everything is working except receiving mail from my Yahoo account. Also, I can receive mail from my .mac account, but can't send from it. These accounts are working fine on my iPhone. Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.
Is there a way to restore old email settings?
Only with a backup or Manually redoing it/them, which may or may not lose the mail you have.

Receiving email from myself

whenever i send a message it goes to the desired recipient but i also receive the same message from myself in the inbox.
how do i change this?

This is very unexpected if using Gmail, since generally Gmail does not even deliver an email intentionally sent to yourself. I will have to review the Gmail settings possibilities, since it would seem something has to have been intentionally set to cause.

Why can't I receive calls from landline phones?

My phone was fine until yesterday. I decided to change my service to another provider and since then I can no longer receive phone calls from landlines to my phone. The phone service has not switched over yet and I still have verizon service and It's the same number, just going to be with a different provider. I can call out and receive calls from cell phones just not landlines, they just go to some voicemail thing. Is this a problem with verizon's service, the fact that the phone is in transition of providers or something else?

Well, perhaps all the problems aren't gone, I have noise in the line now, and some people who call the line get a taped message, and leave messages on an "answering machine" that is not mine and that I cannot access in any way.
This is not new technology. Come on, Verizon. Why did this stuff work in 1975 and not now?

Why can't I send email from icloud in apple mail?

Some one please help!
I have been reserching this for days, weeks, months to no avail.....
When I try to send an email from my iCloud account in mac mail I get the following error:
"Cannot send message using the server iCloud
Sending the message content to the server failed"
Does anyone know why this keeps happing? I've tried everything. I've deleted the account in mail.app and added it back several times. I've checked that mail is selected in my iCloud, and so on and it STILL won't send from the iCloud server in mail.app.

Sir , It Seems That Your iOS is Corrupted , To Correct Your Mail App , You Need To restore your ipod to your current firmware or update it , Please Backup your ipod files before commencing restore .

Hotmail Plus why can't I send email from my Touch

Hi all hope someone can help I have searched but don't seem to be able to find the answer so apologies in advance if this is going over old ground.
I have a paid for Hotmail account I have set it up using the correct settings confirmed by posts here and by the Hotmail help team.
I can receive emails no problem but I cannot send, the Hotmail team claim it is an Apple problem. Can anyone help or advise who/where it is I need to contact.

If you want to be able check your hotmail without using the safari browser you can use the free web app called mail coaster www.mailcoaster.com or you can sign up for izymail which allows you to check your hotmail through a pop serveer. Izymail is free for one month and then about $20/year. I believe you will have fewer problems with izymail than your hotmail plus account.

How do I set up my iPhone 4s with iCloud, so I can see and receive emails from my standard email box from my iMac?

I have set up iCloud on my iMac and on my iPhone 4s.
I can send an email from my iPhone to see on my iMac but not the other way around. If I am to recieve an email from a friend I want it to appear on my iPhone, and all my mac devices, thats the whole point of iCloud.
Please help.

If your friend sends an email to your @me.com iCloud email address, and your iCloud email account is setup on your phone, the email WILL appear on your iPhone.
Have you setup your @me.com iCloud email address on your phone correctly?
