Why can't I record over 1:16 in Garage Band?

I'm recording and editing a few loops I had in mind and as soon as I put everything together, I tried to extend the loops to make it into a track, but the farthest I can edit and/or record my track is 1:16, it doesn't notify me about anything. Why is that?

Is the end of song marker or cycle regions set to 1:16?

  • In Garageband 10.0.1, why can't I record over an existing track "on the fly"?

If I have a track that has a mistake on it, in the older version, I could play the song and just hit the record button when I wanted to record over the mistake on that same track.  It was really useful. Now I can't seem to do that. Help?!?

First, let me say that the new iMovie 10.0.1 is utterly frustrating!  It is so much less user friendly than iMovie 9.  I liked having all the tools in my face with the old version.  Now I have to spend an hour just finding things and learning how to do things all over again.
You'll find you still have iMovie version 9 in your Applications folder. Why not keep using it?
My concern is that I'm done editing for today and I want to quit the app.  In version 9, all I had to do was quit and everything was automatically saved.  Now, iMove 10 says "Are you sure you want to quit? Tasks that are currently in progress will not be completed."  What tasks?  I'm certain I did everything "by the book".
iMoive is completing rendering or some other task that it does in the background. It does work in the background so that you can keep working and not have to wait for it.
Also, I couldn't find the option to export to iDVD.  Is this a thing of the past now?  Do I have to save the file first and then drag the file to iDVD to burn?  There seems to be extra steps involved now.
Yes. It is a thing of the past as far as Apple is concerned.

  • Why can't I record a new track?

Hi. I'm getting reacquainted with the new Garageband and laid down an acoustic mandolin track. Now I want to lay down an acoustic guitar track. But no matter where I click to activate the new acoustic track, the recording seems to go OVER the mandolin track (which I also can't hear). Why can't I record a new track where the guitar is indicated, and why can't I hear the mando as I do this? In the previous version of garageband this was straightforward. Thanks, david

We need to know more details.
Have you set the "Record enable" button in the track header?  (Track > Track Header > Show Record enable). Which track is enabled for recording?
Have you set an input in the Smart Controls > Info pane for the track?
    Also:
What kind of track did you use? An Audio Track? A Guitar Track?
Did you create the Guitar track by duplicating the Mandolin track? Then Crate a new track for your guitar from scratch. Dplicating tracks will link them.

  • Why can't I record calls with the iPhone?

    Hi,
Why can't I record calls with the iPhone? Every other mobile can! That's quite pitty ...!

Nonsense. There are many places where you are not allowed to take photos or video but those functions are included. Apple assumes no responsibility for them. Apple would not be responsible for managing the recordings on the phone either. It's most likely because Apple is located in California and in THAT particular state, both parties have to be informed of the recording. Most states do not require that. If Apple were located in another state (e.g. Alaska) there would be no restriction.
All the apps that record calls store those recordings in their servers and charge you a fee. It would be preferable to have the calls stored only on the phone so no one else could access them. The iPhone has the technological capability; we have just been restricted from having this functionality without paying a 3rd party.

i'm using iphone 4s with ios6, but why can't make facetime over the cellular networks?thanx for the answer

Depends on your carrier and data plan.
With ATT in the US for example, you can FaceTime via ATT's cellular network if you have a shared data plan only.

  • Why can I only find Bob Seger tribute or cover bands?

Why can I only find Bob Seger tribute or cover bands, and not even be able to locate any of his original music on movie sountracks??

I would guess that it is because whomever owns the distribution rights to the music does not allow itunes to sell it.
Itunes can only sell what the owners of the rights will allow them to sell.

  • Is there a USB "Mixer" that can take control of the channel levels in garage band?

Im just looking for something like a USB "Mixer" that can take control of the Channel faders in garage band. Sort of like a digital Mixer, but not for recording.
    many Thanks, Hammie

What you are looking for is called a Control Surface. M-Audio made one specifically for Garageband called the iControl but it was discontinued a few years ago. Many surfaces can work with many different DAWs but I don't know off hand any that work with Garageband.

  • I can't get background audio to work in garage band 1.3 ios6.1 .also no options in settings to turn it on?

I can't get background  audio to work in garage band 1.3 iOS 6.1 also no option in settings to turn on or off?

I had the same problem, try this:
In your home directory, go to Library/Caches/
(make sure you are in the library in your home directory, not the library at the root level of the hard disk).
    and remove this file: com.apple.audiounits.cache
You can drag it to your desktop if you like or throw it away.
Then relaunch garage band, it will rescan all audio units.
If you have the Kontakt audio unit installed in YourHardDiskName/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components it should recognize it and include it in your list. You can toss that cache file any time you want Garage Band to rescan your audio units.
I had a problem with Kontakt on an upgrade that broke it, GarageBand saw it and put Kontakt on its list of broken Audio Units, it would never load it after that... after a new rescan, it was fine.
    Good luck

GB6 is the latest version, so all current docs should directly refer to that.

  • Why can't I record duration as hh:mm in numbers 3.0.1?

I'm trying to record the durations of different events in a spreadseet.
I format the cells to Duration -> Custom Units -> hr and min -> Style: 0:00
Yet when I type "0:35" to record 35 minutes, I get "0:01" and in the tab on the bottom it says "Actual: 0:00.583"
    What is going on here?
Why can't i just enter the duration i want in the style I specified? Why is it trying to convert this to a decimanl when I told it specifically not to?
    Please help.

    Hi ilb,
The example below was constructed in Numbers '09, and shows the format for cells in column B, set in the Inspector. All values in column B were entered directly using nn:nn, with one or more digits before the colon and two digits after the colon in each case.
Cells in columns C and D contain the formula =B. Column C is set to Automatic, and adopts the units of the values in column B, but the default 0h 00m dispay for those units. Column D format has been set to include weeks, days, hours and minutes, and to display these in the same manner as column B.
Setting the formats in Numbers 3 is done slightly differently, and that version may not support setting the formats you want. Wait for details from one of the N3 users on those differences.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • Why can't I record through my Tasam US-122?

I know that people have posted various questions regarding similar issues, but still ...
The Tascam US-122 L is connected via a powered hub to the iMac i7. I did a software and hardware update prior to connecting it to the computer. Garage Band recognizes it, and yet I cannot record anything through the mic. The Tascam US-122 L shows in "MIDI Studio", but when I double-click on it to see the set-up, port etc. all options are grayed out, no changes possible (is that normal?). It does not show as an audio device neither in the Audio MIDI Configuration window nor in System Preferences.
All of this works fine on my old G5 running 10.5.8
    Any ideas?

when you say earpiece, do you mean the reciever on the phone used during a normal call?

  • Is there a way to record karoke track + vocals in garage band ipad

    Hello
i was wondering if anyone could walk me throught the steps of recording a vocal/karoke track on garage band for ipad, i already have the song on my device
    thanks

if you go to the loops logo at the top, a bunch of beats will show up. at the top of that screen, there should be double button that says apple loops on one side and music on the other side. tap music and choose the song you want. put that song in your track and if you want to record, itll play the song in the background as you record your singing. good luck!

  • Can't Import Right Protected AAC songs into Garage Band

I have always been able to take a track from my iTunes library (whether the track was a purchased iTunes or one ripped from a CD) and bring into Garage Band to play with (I'm currently trying to make christmas ringtones for my Droid). All of a sudden, Garage Band is giving me an error code that I can't import songs that are right protected. I just imported (and saved as a ringtone) a song and now, 20 minutes later I can't do it. Does anyone have an answer for me? I appreciate any feedback.

It was never possible to import DRM protected songs from iTunes. The others were probably unprotected songs (which you can buy on iTunes too).
