Why can't I reload iPhoto Update 6.0.6

My system crashed so I bought a new dual core 2.16GHz iMac5,1.
I ran some routine updates including iPhoto 6.0.6.
My engineer recovered my date from my old drive and gave it back to me as an external drive.
In theory all I have to do is drag my old iPhoto package from the external drive into the applications folder and I should have all my photo back a process which certainly worked with iTunes.
However iPhotos says 'You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto' Underneath it tells me I have made changes using a newer version of iPhoto and tells me to quit and use the latest version.
However when I try to download iPhoto 6.0.6 again at the 'Select a Destination' stage I get the following error message. 'You cannot install iPhoto Update 6.0.6 on this volume. An eleigible iPhoto application was not found in the location /Applications/iPhoto.app
I feel I am running round in circles. Can anyone help.

Hi there, the same thing happened to me. I had help in another thread. IM8 actually. Did your new system not come with ILife 8 installed? My IP6 library was on another drive as well. So if 8 is in there, I could not open my 6 Library. I even tried to copy it to the new machine. The update you downloaded is for 6 not 8. I had to remove 8 from my system. I then took my IL6 discs and reinstalled. Then ran appropriate updates... I was then able to copy every thing over with no errors. The updates you ran were for 6 and you need 6 in there first to update. And you have 8. IM8 did not copy over 6. But IP8 copied over 6. I would be careful about getting the whole library into the 8 version as the app does things very differently. Back up before you do anything. By the way, I received the same exact errors, and never even opened the new installed IP app.

Why can't I access the updated that are pending on my phone? I've turned the phone off and also closed all the apps. But still won't allow me to access the updates. Just a blank screen.

Another post is reporting that applying the 6.1 update fixes their issue. I'll have to wait until I am back on WiFi to try that.

Checked out that link and everything seems to be in order on this machine at this time.
I only have CC installed on this one machine, not even my secondary machine like is permitted. it seems odd that I'm asked to re-accept the Licence Agreement as often as I am. If I had to guess, it's almost every week, if not multiple times some weeks, that all the software will decide I should have to view the licence agreement.
Edit: I've never had any noticeable "errors" activating or anything like that. I just get asked to do it quite frequently.
This activation screen isn't too annoying (it involves clicking one single button), but like I stated earlier, if I'm trying to launch the software by double-clicking on a PSD, AI, PPROJ, AEP, etc... that file will fail to open.
I feel like that's probably not really a bug, but it is frustrating, since I did launch the application with the intent to edit that specific file I tried to open.
Again, something that you guys may consider working on.
Another annoyance is that: agreeing to the licence agreement is a per-application task, so if I see that Licence Agreement dialogue window by opening Photoshop (for example), I know that every other piece of software I have in the suite (Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, Audition) will be showing me that screen on it's next launch. Probably deliberate for legal purposes that I can't just agree once for the whole suite, but heck, it would save me a lot of minor headaches if it was a unified agreement.

  • Why can't I download my updates...it doesn't accept my password...changed it several times no luck

Why can't I download my updates....it says my password is wrong...changed it several times with still no luck. What's wrong? When I login to my apple ID it works..whist am I doing wrong?

Have you tried logging out of your account by tapping on it in Settings > Store and then logging back in ?
If that doesn't work then you could try closing the App Store app completely and seeing if you can download updates when you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with the App Store 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the App Store app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Another option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

My iPad 1 can only be updated to iOS 5 yet most apps run on iOS 7. Why can't I make the update on my iPad 1? Is this so I buy another iPad 2+? Now why would I want to buy something that will be obsolete in a few years?  I really want to purchase an Live TV plan yet I need iOS 7 to run most TV apps.
Can Apple tell me why my iPad 1 is obsolete?
    g

It's not obsolete as much as the first gen simply lacks the power to run the newer operating systems. IT doesn't have enough RAM. If someone managed to hack it to get iOS 6 or 7 on there they'd just have a slow, boggy and unresponsive device. (think putting windows 7 on an old laptop.
Unfortunately software moves faster than hardware. Every thing goes obsolete. I've had my ipad 2 for two and a half years now and I know it only has so much longer left to it too. Just the 'joys' of advancing technology.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

i have recieved an update for IOS7 on my 4S. It is to fix a security issue for the 5S and something about Greek. I do not require it. Why can't I decline to download it?

ok, first, thanks to all of you for all the help so far.
second, this is turning into a kind of nightmare!
i decided to try using my mum's new macbook to use iTunes to update my iPhone.  first, it didn't have iTunes installed so i had to install it.  now i have done that, and tried to update my iPhone but i just get a message on my mum's computer saying i have the most recent version of 4.2.1 and there will be another update at a certain date (can't remember it.) eh?  what's that about?  i'm not tech-savvie and am completely flummoxed. i thought i'd update it to a newer version. how can i update my iPhone?  all i want to do is get some basic free apps!
also, i hear what you're saying, and it seems the phone must be an iPhone 4 not 4s, but the box etc all say 4s.  another weird factor.
i'd really appreciate some help, please.

  • HT4972 Why can't I see the update download option under general? I need to download iOS 5

Why can't I see an option to download the ios5 upgrade under General settings

you can update an iPad 1 up to iOS 5.1.1 , you need to connect it to iTunes on a computer and update from there
For instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4623 and scroll down to the part that's about updating with iTunes
Please  note that iPad 1 goes up to iOS 5.1.1, while iPad 2 goes up to iOS 6.1.3, the (current) latest version. You won't be able to ' choose '  iOS 5.1.1 on iPad 2, it will automatically update to the latest version possible.
    Good luck

  • Why can't I see system updates anymore.

Ok fine maybe it was a little inflamitory last time.  Here it is again.  I just want the old system update back.  The system updates are hidden from me.  This is a real concern.  When I have a software developer telling me make sure you don't update java for a another couple of weeks.  The program you depend on will not work properly.  I.E.  I will fail my programming class.  This is a real concern for me.  I have had to go into package files and change code.  I have more than just a few programs that don't work.  And I can't even backup my system the way I want to, with a program like Carbon Copy Cloner.  If I were to get a crash of some kind.  I have no recourse because my Macbook is a mid 2009 Macbook Pro.  I can't fire up a cloned copy to a previous version.  This is anything but smooth.  This is a disaster.  You are going to push an update that will crash people's computers and we will not know until it is too late.

    why wont this work wrote:

If you want the old System Update back thencontact Apple Feedback
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
I have no idea why a Software Developer would tell you that. Although Java is a threat to security.
Which program that you depend on will not work? Have you contacted the developers of the software to see if they have or are intending to update their software? That is their responsibility, not Apple's.
Why can't you backup your system with Time Machine? It is better than having no backup at all.
All in all, Mavericks is flying along on all five of my Macs here in the studio under a heavy workload. You still have the choice to update or not. If you don't wish for the update in the Ap Store, just don't hit Download.
    Cheers

  • Why can't i download iPhoto to my macbook pro?

I've tried and tried to download iphoto.
It keeps asking me to "Accept" it and I do and then nothing happens.

Are you talking an iPhoto update through Software Update, or a newer version from the Mac App Store?

  • Why can't I open IPhoto library stored on Time Capsule?

Our old iMac G5 was struggling with the 27k of photos on it and couldn't accept a software update, so I have bought a 2T Time Capsule and a MacBook, in the hope that I could copy my music and photos onto the Time Capsule and use the MacBook just to access and use the data.
I've dragged and dropped the music from the G5 to the TC and can get at that ok with the MacBook, and when I dragged the iPhoto library over it took ages, which was reassuring given the amount of data. However, when I try to look at the iPhoto library on the TC, while iPhoto on the MacBook can see all of the events, folders, numbers of images etc, when I actually want to look at a photo, all I get it a black screen with a grey triangle and an exclamation mark.
I've done the 'show package contents' thing, and all the photos are on the TC, and I can see them in Preview.
I've checked the TC formatting and it is MacOS Extended (case sensitive, journaled).
    Possible issues:
    - is it a problem that the TC is also set up to do backups?
    - is it a problem that the MacBook is set up with two users?
Not sure what else the problem might even be...
Help me please, otherwise I'll have to pay someone to come and sort it out and feel like I've totally failed...
    Thanks!

Your iPhoto Library is very likely corrupted.
This is an iPhoto issue, so you need to post in the iPhoto support area to let the experts over there offer some suggestions to see if the library can be rebuilt. The link to the iPhoto support area is here:
    iPhoto
The experts over there will likely also explain to you why you should never try to use the Time Capsule to store your "working" library with iPhoto.
The bottom line is that access to the library on the Time Capsule is very slow, and if there is any break in communications between the iPhoto application and the library....something that would easily occur using wireless.....this can corrupt the entire library.
You may be asked to trash the current library and use your backup to rebuild things.
In the future, you really want to place the iPhoto library on a USB drive or FireWire drive that is directly connected to your Mac. Access to the library is fast this way and this setup will work well.  Time Machine will also backup the attached hard drive to your Time Capsule so you will have backups of both the Mac and the hard drive.
I'll let the iPhoto experts take it from here. Hopefully Terrence Devlin will answer your question, but you might be prepared for a bit of a lecture in the process.
Good luck on trying to rescue the library.
