Why can't i remove some of the programs on Mountain Lion? Could always do this before...

How come I can not remove some the programs that have been installed on Mountain Lion? I get a box that says its part of the O/S.
This is starting to sound like something that they do in Windows.
Do Not like it at all.

Hi'
No I don't want to delete any part of the O/S. What I wanted to do was what I could always do In the past and that was to able to remove programs that I had no use for. An example would be  CALCULATOR,  CHESS,  STICKIES AND OTHERS.
Now it looks like we are stuck with what ever Apple decides what we should have!
Starting also to look like the IPAD, as the same goes for it.

  • Why can't I open MS Office 2008 programs in Mountain Lion?

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion (10.8.3), and now I can't open any of my MS Office applications.
    Any ideas?

That's odd. I can open all Office 2008 applications in 10.8.3
Just a long shot: make sure your "Microsoft Office 2008" folder is in the Applications folder, not in a subfolder created by you.

  • Why can I no longer run Microsoft Office after downloading Mountain Lion?

I recently made the jump from snow leopard to mountain lion the other day. After the installation of mountain lion was complete I noticed a number of my applications were no longer useable. The most noticeable ones were anything under microsoft office. I have been using the 2004 version of Microsoft Office  on this Mac without a single problem for four years until Mountain Lion was installed. Now when I try to open it a message pops up saying PowerPC applications are no longer supported. I was wondering if others were having the same problem or there was a solution to fix this.
    Thank you

    Welcome to Apple Communities
PowerPC applications aren't supported in Mountain Lion. What does it mean? You have to update all your programs to an Intel edition. You can use Office 2008 or 2011, try iWork in the App Store or use LibreOffice

  • Why can't I view some of the photos in iphoto

I used to be able to see all my photos in iphoto. now a lot of them are just a gray square. Why can't I see them? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    What version of iPhoto?
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Why can´t I upgrade my Mac Pro to OS Mountain Lion?

Being a person with great interest in photography, video and moviemaking I made a big personal investment a couple of years ago in buying what I thought was the best available computer on the market for multimedia projects for the time being, that is a well equiped Mac Pro (Processor 2x3 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with Memory 8 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 FB-DIMM). After that I also upgraded my Mac Pro with a better graphic card (ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB) and extra HDD´s Up till now there has been no problem to upgrade my computer to every new realesed OS software  (latest OS X Lion 10.7.04) from Apple, but when recently trying to download the latest version of OSX, that is Mountain Lion, this posibility seems to have come to an endpoint! When I try to upgrade to Mountain Lion, I get the message that this is not possible with my Mac Pro (in which I for sure totally up til now have invested at least 70-80 000 swedish kronor (10 - 12 000 dollars).
Is this really so, and if so, why has Apple in this way seemingly abandoned all those earlier loyal customers over the world who by investing their money in Apple´s Pro line of products like Mac Pro´s, have contributed so much in building the good reputation and economic ground for the development of Apple in becoming such a sucessful company? Even if Mac Pro still is a strong and competive computer for the time being, this discontinuation of softwaresupport for the big stock of sold Mac Pro computers world wide, remarks a crossroad from where in the long run, Mac pro´s will become useless and therefore also worthless in such an extent that heir owners once more have to make investments in new hardware from Apple, taking for granted that they find it still being a value in being trustful to the Apple line of computer products.
While a company as a rule always willl find ways to make investments in new hardware of great quality if this is calculated to increase the income of the company, the sitaution is totally different for all independent and creative people over the world who have a much lower budget for their projects and as a rule get no profit from their work but their personal joy and emotional satisfaction.
Do I really have to through my Mac Pro away (it will probably be impossible to sell it to a worthy price after Apple now has discontinued supporting the development of  it´s OS ) or do I have to buy a new Mac Book Pro with Retina Display and Thunderbolt Interface of latest version in order to feel safe in continuing using Apple´s Pro applications for multimedia projects foor the future with reliable continued support from Apple (and in that case for how long I ask myself), or is there any possibility to upgrade the hardware of my Mac Pro in order to upgrade to latest OS software and still feel being a member of the sanctioned Apple club?
Alternatively, maybe Apple can help all Mac Pro owners to make it possible to upgrade to needed Apple hardware and software line of their Pro applications, and thus continue to support Apple in using and inspire developing their products and Pro market shares as well as continue to spread their good reputation in this area, in supporting these reliable customers in some way, as an example by giving a discount to all Mac Pro owners upgrading to a new computer from Apple.
Maybe this in fact is the first step from Apple in a plan to soon stop selling the model Mac Pro because the latest compact Mac Book Pro´s already has exceeded the old clumpsy Mac Pro´s in function, versatility and potential for future development. If so this Apple´s decision is logic and understandable, but please don´t abondon all customers of Mac Pro´s all over the world  who have been utterly fidele to Apple in helping the Company to spread the good reputation of Apples computers to ordinary people through the years and thus to a great extent have contributed in buildning the necessary market expectations that have made it possible for Apple to develop and sell new products to a continuing growing market by fulfilling and helping ordinary peoples daily needs. I believe that without these earlier pioneers and supporters of Apple´s ever innovative productline, its not taken for sure the Apple Company should have reached this all time incredible height of success we all can witness today...
    Sincerely
    Stefanis
PS/ Me and my family are true Apple customers and supporters in having all together 4 iPhones, 4 iPods, 1 iPad, 1 MacBook, 2 MacBook Pro´s, 1 Mac Pro, 1 Apple TV 2nd gen, 1 Apple TV 3rd gen and a lot of general and Pro Application (among them all iWork programs, Aperture, Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Pro X and Logic Pro).

what a long post....Apple, btw, does not read this stuff, so ranting, raving, and complaining here might make you feel good, but it does no good at all. That being said, I, too have a Mac Pro Quad Core Xeon with 6 gigs of ram and an nVidia 8800 GT graphics card (not as good as yours, alas) and I've had no problems at all with it. Yes, it doesn't have Thunderbolt, but maybe we Mac pro owners will get lucky and someone will come out with an adapter (probably not). No, you probably don't have to throw away your Mac Pro, but if you do, I'll take it, for a small "recycling" fee >:-) That was a joke.  Yes, the Mac Pro's future isn't quite clear, YET. Hopefully that will improve very soon. As for not being able to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Don't worry about that too much, Nobody is forcing you to do that.  Your Mac Pro won't quit working if it isn't installed. From what  I've heard, you should give the new OS a chance, and wait to get it, in case there might be some bugs, or stuff not working with the new OS, which has been known to happen. Yes, we Mac Pro owners don't like being treated like mushrooms-kept in the dark, and being fed......... but Apple is Apple and it will do what it does, and there is nothing you or me can really do to change that. All I can say is....trust, have faith, be patient, go for a walk, do something else to take your mind off of this problem. IF apple decides to drop the Mac Pro for good, and that's a big "IF", I think they will anger a whole bunch of people
which isn't good. However, that hasn't happened...YET. Let us hope that it doesn't

  • Why can't I access some of the things in settings menu?

When i go into my settings menu on my ipad (not on my Mac or iphone) some things are not accessible. Can't get into icloud, facetime, messages, mail accounts settings to make any changes.

Most likely the ability to change account settings has been turned off in the General -> Restrictions settings.

  • Why can't i access some of the tabs in my PSE13?

I am new to PSE so I went out and bought the "pse13 for dummies" book and was going through trying stuff from in there. I wanted to try a layered photo and was trying what they said to do but I can't do anything because not all of my tabs in PSE are "active", I even tried starting with a blank file. Tabs like layer, windows, etc I can click on but I can't select anything from their drop down box. I have been messing with PSE since Christmas night and have contacted PSE help/support every night and just keep going in circles. I talked to someone last night who said it sounded like I needed someone from the "photography department" Does anyone know how to fix this so I cant finally start using this program?

    In Editor, Expert tab:
Go to Edit>Preferences>General, and check "Allow Floating Documents in Full Edit Mode"
Open a picture file, then on the arrange icon, click on "Float All In Windows".
Do the instructions work for you now?

  • Why is my hard drive running all the time in Mountain Lion

My hard drive is powering up far more than it ever did with Lion, and this of course is killing battery power rapidly. Any one know why my hard drive runs so often on the new OS?
    Thanks!

Great. Thanks. What I mean is my hard drive actually revs up and makes noise far more often than it ever did on Lion. It is actively engaged in a higher usage than ever before and this of course makes the battery quickly expire.
Would anyone else like to offer advice? Thanks!
