Why can't I render to match sequence ?

Hi there,
I have quite an irritating problem.
I brought in an effects I did in AE which is in 1920 x 1080.
Then in Pre Pro, I also set the sequence as 1920 x 1080.
When I render, I did Export > Media. I chose "match sequence settings" but the output is always in mpeg format which I cannot change (it is the only format availabe).
So since I need to render in mov, I cannot use "match sequence settings", I select Quicktime. For the Preset, there is only NTSC & PAL DV widescreen. How come there is no option for HDV ?
As it turn out, when i click export, the output is in 720 x 756.
How to I get Premiere Pro to render in 1920 x 1080 ?
Please help me, I am desperate !!
Thanks
Cheers

Oh, forgot--you're on a Mac.
Well, as I recall, AIC is limited to 1440x1080, using non-square pixels. I'm surprised that Premiere doesn't automatically reset the height and width values, but maybe that's only for non-QuickTime formats and codecs, as it uses its own export module. You will probably have to manually set those dimensions (1440x1080) and PAR (1.333) if you want to export using this codec.
That said, why do you want to use this codec? It's an intermediate codec (and not a very good one, at that), not a destination codec. What do you want to do with your file?
EDIT: Just checked on my Windows machine, and with QuickTime as the Format, dimensions do change depending on the codec selected. DV and DVCPROHD, for example, are locked, but other codecs can be changed to suit the source and destination. If you choose AIC as the codec, and the dimensions appear locked, please post a screenshot...
Thanks Colin & Bill,
I didn't realize below the Codec chosen there is a vertical slider to surf down & change the dimension. The default for vertical & horizontal was 720 and 576, so I changed them to 1920 and 1080 and it worked. Not sure why the default was 720 & 576 but oh well ....
Colin, I select AIC simply because it says Apple Intermediate Codec ... I thought because I was using an Apple computer so I select it. Okay, what would be a good codec then ? I wanted it to be able to watch on a computer in HD.
Thanks

• Seriously Apple, why can't Leopard render a transparent menu bar on my Mac?

I have a 2-year-old PowerBook 12" 1.5 GHz running Leopard 10.5.2 freshly updated today. I thought for sure I'd get to see a translucent menu bar but, no, still opaque as ever with no option to change.
Apple, let me tell you some of the things this pretty capable computer can do:
-Dynamically render transparency and reflections in a magnifying Dock
-Dynamically render transparency in Terminal windows with varying levels of transparency
-Render GPU-intensive animations such as Genie effect, rotating cube, and dashboard "splash"
-Hey, I can even boot into Linux, run Gnome, and make it's menu bar transparent!
Please stop telling me my computer is not compatible enough to display a translucent menu bar. Displaying the transparency in the menu bar has got to be one of the least intensive operations Leopard will do. It is a static image (save for seldom changing menu items) that rarely needs to be re-rendered. Terminal windows, however, get resized, dragged around and display their transparency beautifully.
Let's get some straight answers as to why this simple issue of getting a Transparent menu bar consistently displayed (ot not displayed, by choice) across all of your "compatible" hardware is such a confusing mystery.
Thanks for fixing the Stacks, at least.

Thanks for your input. While you may not mind a solid menu bar, I quite like it and would like to have one. My main gripe however, is the fact that this really just seems like some bug that Apple isn't willing to focus on, or admit to.
They say the graphics card can render "most effects" but not the menu bar. But, seriously, as I've mentioned before, why can it render transparent drop-down menus, transparent Terminal windows, transparent/reflective Dock, Dashboard ripple effect but not a simple, basic, transparent menu?
Once I get a decent answer to this, I'll be satisfied. Because right now, telling me my 64MB graphics card can't handle it seems like a load of bulls**t.

• Why must I re-render a nested sequence?

When I nest a fully rendered sequence into a master sequence I need to re-render much of the audio and some of the video in the master sequence even though when I check back to the original all of the render files are intact.
This flies in the face of all the research I have done about this. Every article I can find on nesting says the render files will be preserved. In fact, Ken Stone suggests using nesting in certain instances to keep from having to re-render constantly!
Can anyone give any suggestions?

As diffkid has implied, the setting must match precisely. But you may be confusing renders, that create new media files, with RT stuff that does not require rendering in the upstream nest but maxes out your RT capabilities in the main downstream sequence. Say you have six audio tracks in your nest and then you place that into a sequence that has 4 tracks but your system is set for 8 tracks of RT audio. You've got to render the audio. Same with your video effects. Everything is cumulative.
However, if you are actually rendering upstream, the pointers to the render files SHOULD hold. They don't always and I have no idea why.

• Why can't I render or export media all of a sudden in Premier Pro CS5?

I just had my computer serviced and now when I try to export media in Premier Pro CS5 I get an error "encoding failed: unk
nown error" and I cannot render either. There are other problems with my other Adobe programs too such as in Encore when I try to build my DVD I get the "unable to transcode" error. It almost seems like they somehow deleted some of my Adobe components. Everything worked fine before I took the computer in, I was just running out of space on my hard drive. Can I just re-install the entire CS5, or is that even neccessary? I am using Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 2 with and Intel Quad Core processor w/ 8GB ram and a 64bit operating system.
Thanks for your help!!!

I was just running out of space on my hard drive.
And the servicing included a new one, tranjsferring the install via a system image? This is bound to cause problems, since the drive mapping won't match. Not just with Adobe products, but also otehr programs and Windows itself. Indeed a clean reinstall of everything is strongly advisable... In your case it has definitely bombed out the licensing info, hence you are unable to use anything related to MPEG or other formats that use CoDecs tied in with the activation...

• Why can't I render or smoothly play 1080p30 .mts file (Canon XA10 camera) on premiere

Using both a quadcore pc and a brand new quad core macbook pro both take my 1080p .mts file and bring in with yellow line....can't render workspace and won't playback smooth....occassionally a red screen appears as well. I dragged file into new item in project lower corner to create custom sequence...no help there either.
Thanks a ton!
Jason

Yellow line is what you usually get. Dont worry that is normal.
Make sure you copy the whole card onto the harddrive first and then ingest via the Media Browser.

• Why can I not render a video that is open?

Why do I get a diaologue box stating I cannot render a file that is open? how in the world am I supposed to click export>render video on a file that is not
open, this doesnt make any sense to me.

Without system information, render settings and otehr details nobody can say. Files get "opened" all the time in teh technical sense for indexing by the file system, by virus scanners or by the programs themselves for integrity checks. Whatever is happening on your system is realted to some of that. Perhaps soem external process sis simply not keeping its dirty fingers away from the file or on the file system level it doesn't properly register as being opened by anotehr process. Again, we can't know. You have not provided enough info.

• Why can't I renew iTunes Match with store credit?

Is Apple serious? I need a credit card to renew my iTunes Match service, even though I have over $200 worth of store credit sitting in my account?
I don't have a credit card, I don't want one. I don't understand why I can't use my store credit to renew my iTunes Match subscription.

As it's a subscription model and not a one-time charge, having a credit card on file is required, but it will only actually be charged if there isn't enough iTunes Store credit to pay for the renewal.

• Why can't I find any matches ?

My first query select PONumber and itemNO from table1 based
on the document number entered in the form.
<cfquery name="qryName1" datasource="dbName">
select
PONumber,
rtrim(itemNo) as itemNo
from table1
where documentNo = '#form.documentNumber#'
</cfquery>
I then take the two fields retrived and match it against this
table, to get the pGR and netPrice.
<cfquery name="qryName2" datasource="dbName">
select pGr, netPrice
from OpenPO
where
(purchDoc = '#qryName1.PONumber#' and Item =
'#TRIM(qryName1.itemNo)#')
</cfquery>
What is happending is that the PONumber matches but the
itemNo does not match. That is why I rtrim in the sql in the first
query and trim in the where clause in this query but it still does
not find a match. Both items are defiend as nvarchar 5 in the sql
tables. I even used cfoutput to show the len and it is 5, so there
are no blank spaces, yet it still will not find a match, and I know
there are matches.
Any anybody tell me what is wrong and/or what to look for
?

NYG,
Can you pull out the raw data from the OpenPO table on the
Item col for the record you want? Perhaps by altering query2:
<cfquery name="qryName2" datasource="dbName">
select pGr, netPrice, Item
from OpenPO
where purchDoc = '#qryName1.PONumber#'
</cfquery>
I realize this might bring back several records but it could
be helpful to see what the DB has versus what you're comparing.
In addition, what happens if you adjust the query2 where
clause to use a like for the itemNo)?
where (purchDoc = '#qryName1.PONumber#' and Item like
'%#TRIM(qryName1.itemNo)#')
Also, more out of curiosity, does anything change if you
alter query1 to change the name of the alias for ItemNo:
<cfquery name="qryName1" datasource="dbName">
select
PONumber,
rtrim(itemNo) as itemNum
from table1
where documentNo = '#form.documentNumber#'
</cfquery>
More curious than anything on that last one!

• Why can't I use a match-moved shape as a mask?

Hey guys,
Similar to the subject line, I'm trying to get a rectangle I've four-corner pinned to an underlying baked Quicktime movie in my sequence "punch" through that Quicktime movie in order to show work underneath. When I drag the match-moved rectangle to the movie's Image Mask trough, nothing happens.. checking its properties, there's nothing in the movie's trough at all, as though it's some kind of illegal-type operation. I'd appreciate any ideas.

I figured it out, but in case somebody comes up to a similar difficulty, I had neglected to have the match-moved object (in this case, a rectangle) as part of a 2D group.. apparently it doesn't work in a 3D group. Thanks anyways.

• Why can't monitor doesn't match computer resolution?

I have an old macbook pro 17" with max resolution 1680x1050. When I plug in my view sonic Led monitor they don't match. The monitor says 1920x1080. The screen seems a bit blurry and hard to read. I tried the smaller monitor size (1600x1200) it stretches the screen. Why don't they match? And do I need a different type of monitor?
(see attached image of sizing- the "color LCD" is the macbook.)
Thanks a million. I get the best answers to my mac problems on this forum.
-Kate

Yes, it should work. 1920x1200 is the resolution of Apple's 24-inch Cinema Display. The new one connects directly using the Mini DisplayPort, but the previous 23-inch version was connected by DVI and it was 1920x1200 native resolution. I have heard no one else reporting here that any DVI display with 1920x1200 native resolution does not work properly on the Mini DisplayPort (using a DVI adapter).

• Why can't I see iTunes Match?

Hi,
I have installed latest updates on Macbook and iPad, but can't see iTunes Match icon anywhere.
Are there any territorial restrictions (I'm living in Europe) or what? I checked some tips and when it shall appear, I don't have it.
Thanks for help,
Michal

iTunes Match is only available in the U.S. for now. Apple is most likely still working on negotiating contracts with the relevant rights holders for other parts of the world.

• HT201302 Why can't subscribe to iTunes Match ?

Not enough memory to update to ios7 so bought extra storage on the cloud to transfer my music & free up some space. When I click on "iTunes match" to transfer it, the screen won't display properly (looks like a word doc from 1976)! I've repeatedly clicked on subscribe but nothing happens

You can, but since iTunes Match is a subscription service you must also have a permanent form of payment associated with your account. A credit card is required.

• Why can't I render the audio portion of a movie trialer from Apple site

I have been downloading apple trialers from the apple website for a year now, and importing them into Final Cut. I put them in a sequence, and then render them. It has been working fine until now, all of a sudden, the audio won't render. I have tried opening a new project, I have made sure the sequence settings are correct, but still, it won't render the audio. The video still renders fine. Help.

Apple is on to you...whatever you do, don't answer the door.

• Why can't I import an AAF sequence that references a single clip of mono audio ?

I have an AAF file that defines a sequence which contains a single clip of mono audio. When I try to import this into Premiere Pro I get an error telling me that it is unable to reference a file containing more than 2 audio streams. I'm assuming that a stream is synonymous with a channel which may be a mistake. If it is, then, as my audio is mono, it seems unlikely that I have more than 2 streams. I have checked what is in the AAF and the only part of it that has more than 1 channel is the 'Tape' mob. Is it possible that the import is failing because of this ?

I had this problem also, only the .m4v files could not be imported either! The strange thing was I was able to do this task with other home vids in the past without issue. I simply shut everything down and rebooted at this point as a last dithch effort to avoid a trip to the Apple store and then it worked - itunes was able to accept the import.
