Why can't I run Windows 7 with Lion on my mid 2007 iMac?

After running Bootcamp and starting the Win 7 DVD it stops at a black screen wanting me to choose option 1 or 2. I can do anything from there. I have attached a USB keyboard and mouse.

I see you already posted there, but for everyone else, The Hatter and I answered this question here:

  • Macbook Pro running Windows with Boot Camp, wanting to use iMac as second monitor.

I am using a Macbook Pro that is running Windows with Boot Camp. I want to connect it to my iMac so that I can use the iMac as a second monitor.
If it is not possible, I also have a TV that I could use using an HDMI, however when I tried this my Macbook Pro running Windows 8.1 did not detect it in the Display Settings.
What are my options? I just want to use my iMac or TV as a second monitor!!

  • Can a mac running windows with Boot Camp be found by Find My iPhone

I'm running Windows on my MacBook Pro via BootCamp and I'm using the Find My iPhone iCloud app on my iPad. My MacBook Pro cannot be found by Find My iPhone, it's labeled as off-line, even though it's connected to the Internet.
So my question is this: is there a way for Find My iPhone to see my Mac while running Windows. Note, I've already got iCloud for Windows installed on the Windows side of my MacBook Pro (and Find My Mac turned on on the Mac side, and while on the Mac side, it's always found, no problem.)

When you iPhone is not connected to the Internet either through 3G/Wi-fi or because it is off then you cannot track it.
If FindMyiPhone is enabled, even if the iPhone is off or not on wifi/3G, it will still show in FindMyiPhone under Devices, though it cannot be located.
If it is not showing No Devices, FindMyiPhone is not enabled.
If it does show in Devices and shows Offline, FindMyiPhone is enabled but it is off or not on wifi/3G.
This is one way to remove the activation lock if you do not have the device. Delete it from FindMyiPhone in iCloud.

  • Why Can't I Run Windows 2000???

I cannot install Windows 2000 Pro.  HELP!
    I have:
    K7T Pro2 V.1 (MS6330 V1.7) motherboard
    VIA KT133 (552BGA) Chipset
    VIA VT82C686A (352BGA) Chipset
    The latest BIOS flash (6330v34.exe)
The latest VIA Chipset 4in1 drivers (4in1443v.exe)
    AMD 1ghz Athlon
    No weird, extraneous hardware
When I try to install Win2KPro, either from an upgrade or clean install, I keep getting the following error messages:
    Incompatible Hard Disk Controller
    and later,
    STOP!  Inaccessible boot device.
I have scoured the Web, the VIA website and the MSI website for help with this problem, and found nothing.  During the install, if I hit F6 when prompted to install 3rd-party mass storage device drivers, I get nowhere with the VIA drivers, because setup is looking for a file called "textsetup.oem," which doesn't seem to be part of the VIA drivers package.  YIKES!
Am I screwed with this mobo/chipset combo, or is there really a way to install Win2KPro with my setup?  PLEASE post DETAILED instructions to help me in my time of need!
Thank you!  You must remove "HATESPAM" from my email address when replying... ;-)

Somehow I don't think the problem is a bad HD.  It's been merrily (as much as that is possible) running Win98 for 2 years, now.
I strongly suspect a MSI mobo/VIA chipset hassle here.
    Can Win2kPro be installed on a K7T Pro2 (NOT Pro2-A!)??
Surely SOMEBODY at MSI knows the answer!
    zippy2000
Yes its possible to run Win2KPro on this mobo. I have the same mobo and i had no problems with installing Win2KPro. Do you have a raid-controller? If you have one do the following. If you boot the Win2KPro cd-rom you will be asked to install drivers for your raid-controller, insert your floppy with the drivers of the raid-controller.
If do not have a raid-controller i don't know what the problem can be, i'm sorry.

  • How can I check for spyware on my Intel based mid-2007 iMac running Lion?

I recently received a message stating that my Intel based iMac desktop may contain spyware plus a friend sent me a copy of an email to my iCloud email address that i did not send to him, i was not even home using my iMac on that date. I do have anti-virus software on my iMac from Integra and I do a scan each day before i shutdown the iMac and have not received any such warnings from that software.
I do appreciate any and all advise I can receive in this matter. A long time ago I did receive an email a Yahoo based email address and was notified that I could possibly loose my email account due to junk email being sent from my iMac. I did have the support/warranty from Apple at that time and a phone rep did talk me through steps to check for any intrusion to my iMac with negative results, the iMac was clear of any spyware, etc.
Hoping there is the same for this issue.

You can't use a specific Mac OS X disc for a Mac with a different computer. First, call Apple and buy Mac OS X Snow Leopard > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 Then, make a backup, insert the DVD and upgrade OS X. Finally, open  > Software Update and install the most recent version

  • After upgrading to mountain lion i keep getting an error message saying my startup disc is full. it shouldnt be full because there is barely anything on there and i was running windows with bootcamp prior to this with no issues

after upgrading to mountain lion i keep getting an error message saying my startup disc is full. it shouldnt be full because there is barely anything on there and i was running windows with bootcamp prior to this with no issues. my computer now freezes and programs close randomly. The usual command for opening windows with bootcamp doesnt work. once in restarted my computer after it froze and it rebooted in windows automatically. i really just want to know if there is a way to take the upgrade off my laptop because it is very annoying.

    Hi Memalyn
Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.

  • Why can't I run my Java program with just the JRE, the JDK is required?

I've recently written 3 programs in Java using the Netbeans IDE with JDK 1.6 as the default Java platform. The compile-time libraries include the Swing Application Framework. I use BuildDesk from ProductiveMe to package the each program into a Windows installer.
When I install the programs on a new computer without a JRE or JDK being present, and attempt to run them I get an error (as expected) stating that there is no JVM. The messages says that I need to install JDK 1.3 or higher. I downloaded the latest JRE onto the new computer and attempted to run the programs and I get the same error message. My question is, why can't I run these programs with just the JRE installed? Why do I need the JDK? When I install the JDK, the programs run fine. The typical user may not have the JDK on their system, but they likely have the JRE if they've run Java programs before.
Is the answer as simple as there must be library functions being used by the programs that belong to the JDK, but not the JRE? I'd rather a user not have to install the JDK verses the JRE because they may also have to update some Windows environment variables.
Thank you for any help on this issue.

Thanks for your replies. I further investigated BuildDesk and found an option which allows a JVM check but that check needs the JDK. I stopped the JVM check and rebuilt using BuildDesk and it now only requires the JRE to run the programs. The reason why I use BuildDesk is to package more than just the jar file for the user. BuildDesk allows me to create a installation folder structure as well as include any other files in the build. I could just as well zipped all this together for the user but decided against that method.I don't think anyone will question your usage of an installer tool; that is entirely up to you. But what is questionable is that you have problems with that installer tool and then go look for help in a Java programming forum. The next time, go look for help at the source. If there is no way to acquire help (support, a forum, a mailinglist, anything) then that is a very good reason to not use the product in question.

If I have mountain lion would and am trying to run parallels would I have to run Windows 7 or can I just run Windows Vista?

It's the other way round: first, you install Parallels, and then you can install Windows 7, 8, Vista, whatever you want. Or Linux. For more information visit the Parallels website.

  • Is there any way how i can download and run Window based games, with out installing Windows-thus Bootcamp? and if so, is it free?

is there any way how i can download and run Window based games, with out installing Windows-thus Bootcamp? and if so, is it free?

No, you must install Windows to run Windows software. You do not need to use Boot Camp (yes, it's free because it comes with OS X.)
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Why can't the finder in Mountain Lion 10.8.2 find files that have successfully downloaded, or that other programs can find?

Why can't the finder in Mountain Lion 10.8.2 find files that have successfully downloaded, or that other programs can find?
This happens with maybe 1 out of 5 files. These are files that have either an ."aa" extention, or or are libraries that icloud can see, but finder can't.

Files beginning with a period are invisible and library files are system files. Spotlight cannot find either unless configured to do so (btw, this is not a Finder issue but a Spotlight issue.)
Get Spotlight to search system files (and more)
Enter the search term in the Finder window's search field.
Click the [+] button in the search bar to add a search option.
In the first drop down menu choose Other.
Choose “System Files” from the list that pops up (and check the box to place in drop down menu to avoid this step later,) click on the OK button.
Now back in the Finder choose Include from the second drop down menu.

  • Mac running slowly with Lion.

My Mac has been running slowly with Lion. Its a 2008 20inch iMac. Its been a fabulous machine and I love it but since running Lion is has been slow and unresponsive, and I really want this sorted. I have read a few places about doing clean installs, but this sounds risky and complex? Can anyone help me make this the awesome machine that it once was?
    Happy Days
    Stuart

If you have only the minimum required ram installed to run Lion (2gb), that may be why.  4gb is best.  Clean installs aren't risky and complex as long as you have a backup of your data.  A clean install would involve first erasing your hdd via disc utility, powering down, then powering on while holding down the option key (same as holding command+r, but one less key to hold) to get you into Lion recovery.  Install Lion, and it will look as if you just bought the machine new.  Then, you would need to selectivley restore items from a backup (if you do a normal install by just restoring everything from your backup, you will have defeated the purpose of a clean install in my mind).  You will also need disc 2 that came with your mac to reinstall GarageBand, iWeb, iDVD, and iPhoto or else you will lose.  There are plenty of tutorials online and many experienced people here who can walk you through it.  May, sound intimidating, but it can be done if you can follow directions (they aren't complicated)

  • Why?  Why can't I run iMovie and have it

Why? Why can't I run iMovie and have it ask me whether I want to load an existing project or new one? I don't see a setting for this in Preferences.
    thanks

I haven't gone to the trouble of actually testing to see which uses more CPU power, but Firefox has been faster than Safari on every Mac I've ever owned.
To see CPU usage by process, open the terminal (in Utilities) and enter 'top' at the command line. You might have to expand the window as processes don't appear in any logical order.
It could also be hardware-related: I have late 2009 mini with similar specs and it pinwheels easily.
