Why can't I screenshot on Mac OSX 10.9.4 Mavericks?

I try the simple; Command, shift, 3 or 4 for sections. I was on the internet and I was looking for flights from my location to Boston, and I tried screens hotting and it redirected me to some page. To be more exact, commend shift 3 sends me to Facebook (3rd page on my bookmarks) and command shift 4 sends me to twitter (or the 4th one) please help! I really need to screenshot everything I do!

Command-Shift-3 does a screen shot of the entire screen so is not affected by browser or anything else.  Command-Shift-4 brings up a cursor you must control to capture an area.

Why can't i update my Mac mini above 10.5.8?

    See:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

Hey i have a old powerbook G4 laptop and i was wondering where can i download the OS ( Mac OSX 10.5.8 Build ( 9L30 ) to do a fresh install my system is running really slow is there any place where i can down load this OS?

    Hello,
Unfortunately Apple do not offer a download for mac OS X 10.5.8. They will only provide updates available for download. ( Normally you would do so once the OS is installed)
To do a fresh install of this software your going to need to buy a retail copy of the disk.
There are some vendors who do still stock the media disk, but they can be expensive.
    Best of luck.

  • Why can't I get the Mac to accept a dvd which it did yesterday evening?

Why can't I get the Mac to accept a dvd to play which it did yesterday evening?

    Hi a brody,
It's pretty well documented. Here's a Wikipedia article on the topic. Tons of other links to follow.
The drives themselves weren't damaged (by trying to do something like write to the drive's firmware), but the rootkit was installed on any computer you put a loaded disk in.
I had a couple of legally purchased CDs from that era, and they never played right. They would skip, stall and even spontaneously eject. And this was in various music CD players (home player, car), which the rootkit wasn't supposed to affect.

  • Why can't i airdrop from mac book pro to iPhone 5s

why can't i airdrop from mac book pro to iPhone 5s

You can't currently AirDrop between OS X and iOS. This is partly because OS X supports many file types that iOS wouldn't know what to do with if you AirDropped them onto an iPhone.
This will change in the next OS X and iOS that Apple recently demonstrated. When those OSs become final and are released to the public, you will be able to AirDrop between OS X and iOS. Apparently iOS will be more flexible about handling file types, as shown by the future ability to create your own sharing folder in iCloud instead of having iCloud being individual to each app.

  • Can't install windows to mac osx partition!

Hi, I had 2 partitions in my macbook pro, 1 for mac osx and 1 for bootcamp, and I wanted to install mac osx to a firewire hard drive, but i messed it up and installed mac osx OVER the bootcamp partition.
Now I have 2 mac osx partitions on the macbook pro, and can't reformat the partition to reinstall bootcamp.
Is there a way to reformat that partition and reinstall bootcamp (windows)?
    Thanks in advance!

That is why backup should be #1 and last.
You have to return (ie, reformat) your drive probably back to one partition with just Mac OS before you can use Boot Camp Assistant.
While at it, just clone one of your Mac OS volumes over to FW now. Later, with Windows installed, make an image of that (WinClone) while in Mac OS to your FW drive also.

  • Why can't I access the Mac App Store anymore?

I want to upgrade my Mac Pro but I can no longer access the Mac App Store and don't know why.

Remember that Rosetta is not supported beyond 10.6.8. This means that if you use any PowerPC Apps, they will refuse to work.
    My top six are:
Microsoft Office, including Word, 2004 or older
    Photoshop CS2 or older
    Apple Works 6
    FileMaker Pro 6
    Eudora 6
Quicken 2007 (unless you purchase and install the "Loin Compatible" update)

  • HT4759 How can I use iCloud with MAC OSX Ver 10.6.8?

Mobile Me has been discontinued and my under 3 yr old MAC does not have the system requirements to support iCLOUD.  Trying to find an iphone with an app that will work on a MAC OSX Ver 10.6.8.
    Thanks

You're welcome.  In order to connect to your iCloud account on your Mac it has to be running OS X Lion (10.7.2) or higher.  You would need to upgrade to either Lion or Mountain Lion in order to set up iCloud if your system meets the system requirements.
    Lion system requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Mountain Lion system requirements are shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5444.
If you can run Mountain Lion, you can purchase an upgrade from the Mac App Store.  If you can only run Lion, contact the online store in your country and purchase a download code to download it from the Mac App Store.
After upgrading, you will find iCloud in System Preferences>iCloud on your Mac, and can set it up as explained here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html.
Before upgrading, you may want to check the compatibility of your existing programs by checking here: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table.

  • Can I run bootcamp and mac osx

Can I setup two different user accounts with one running bootcamp with windows and the other running mac osx?

You don't "run" Boot Camp. You run Windows and OSx.
Install Windows using Boot Camp Assistant. Create a password protected Windows user. Create a password protected OSx user.
When someone boots the computer have them press and hold the option key. If Windows is selected as the boot option, only the Windows user will be able to log in. If OSx is selected as the boot option, only the OSx user will be able to log in.

  • Help! Can't start up from Mac OSX 10.0.4

I’m hoping someone can help me with a problem. I have an Apple G-4 computer. When I originally purchased it 3-4 years ago I believe it came with OS 9.1 and OSX installed. Both worked fine when I first got it. Through the years I upgraded the OS to 9.2.2 and haven’t used OSX since the first time I purchased the computer.
Well, I went out an purchased a digital camera which only works with OSX. So I switched the start up disk to OSX and re-started the computer. No OSX, only a gray screen with wording, letters and numbers that are highlighted. Some of the wording is as follows: “panic unable to find driver for this platform”, no debugger configured-dumping debug information”, panic we are hanging here”.
So I re-started from the CD, switched to OS 9.2 and restarted. I then removed the OSX system from my computer. I then re-installed OSX again and tried to start from it, but the same thing happened. I’m not sure if it has any bearing, but I noticed in the startup disk, Mac OSX 10.0.4 has next to it (Build 4Q12). Not sure what it means or if it’s suppose to be there.
Sure would appreciate some help here. Thanks much.
    G-4   Mac OS X (10.0.x)

10.4 will work on your machine as long as you upgrade the firmware first.
Follow my upgrade tips when installing:
    http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
I would add the person who has the least trouble upgrading to X, goes to it cold turkey. As you are suggesting only to do so for your digital camera, I'm not sure if you really are ready to go to X. I'd get all your software upgraded to X versions before going to X purchased, and then you'll be able to work it out. I've also written this FAQ on migration:
