Why can't I search in content?

I'm just evaluating iFS - please forgive any stupid question.
I've installed a fresh Oracle 8.1.7 and iFS 1.1 under Windows NT 4 (SP6a). ifsconfig ran
without problems and also ifsstart. I created a new user with ifsmgr and I'm having
no trouble to view the contents of the
folders via Windows Explorer and WebUI.
But I can't find any file when I search "in Content". Is interMedia configured to work
right out of the box or do I have to do something? I could not find anything in the
docs!
Also I can't find the SMBServer. I can "mount" the iFS with Windows NT but I can't find this Server (Protocol?).

Rene, did you start the ctx server? I don't know the situation on NT, but here on Unix, we have to start the ctx process manually after ifsstart.

You can only sync to one computer.
You would have to transfer purchases, but the apple ID would need to be the same.
Or find a 3rd party app to transfer content.

Why can't Preview search in a foreign language?

I have a long .pdf document in Russian but find, as in the past, that words placed in Preview's search bar always get no hits.
If Preview can display a text in a foreign language, why can't it search for words in that language?

Try Adobe Reader instead of Preview.
The basic problem is that the pdf format is not reliable for searching, and sometimes even copy/pasting non-Latin text. Depending on how it is produced, the internal representation of the text can easily become useless garbage.

I'm disappointed in Apple's inability to do the smart thing, and post a notice in the header of the site, this is a user-wide issue, you don't just hide the fact it's happening behind a server status page.

Why can't I search icloud calendar

I can search mail, contacts, notes, and reminders.
Why, for the love of god, can I not search calendar?!!

You're welcome. If you entered new events for next week that don't appear on your iPad, they were probably entered on a non-iCloud calendar. If you have now set the default calendar to be your iCloud calendar on your phone, you will have to re-enter the events on your iCloud calendar and delete them from the non-iCloud calendar to get them on your iCloud calendar and not see duplicate events on your phone. (There isn't a way to move them from one calendar to the other.)

Why can't I search/filter on display names?

See Question. Yes, it's 'display names', so I guess you can only see them on the display while thunderbird pretends to not know them really.
Still this is a less useful non-feature which annoys me a lot.

Display name:
is useful in identifying emails from specific people like family and friends.
It is more informal.
The shortened format means the 'From' column header does not need to be so wide - especially if these emails have been filtered to suitable folders.
for example: it is more user friendly to see FROM Mum instead of the long email address and many peopke do not always send emails showing their name.
However, like many things, you are not obligued to use it in the contact properties.
Regarding searching:
It depends upon how you are doing it. there are different search methods and each will search in a slightly different way.
If using 'Quick Filter Bar' then it does not search on Display name as those options are not available. It searches on Sender , Recipient, Subject and Body. But if the display name happens to be used in the body content then it will display.
If using global search then it does search on a display name.
Enter the display name in the search eg: Mum and select the Mum and email address option from the drop down offered.
It will show display name and email address, so you can select the search parameters.
If using this method:
Edit > Find > Search messages
This method searches on specific fields/headers and therefore will not search on a display name.
So I would recommend you try using the global search option if searching by a specific display name.

Why can't I import audio content from a Pana LX5 MTS file?

Awesome as the new video capability is in CS6 (the ability to add image filters is to die for!), I have encountered a problem.
I can import the video component from a Panasonic LX5 .MTS AVCHD Lite video file. But the audio isn't included and I can't bring the audio content into an audio track by importing separately.
When I import H264 .MOV, taken with my Canon 7D, audio is included in the video import and I can also import audio from another, similar file to an audio track.
Is there some special trick involved with AVCHD Lite format video? Has anyone else succeeded in importing audio from an .MTS file?

You aren't the only person: also fails for me, Windows 7 64-bit. Audio doesn't play in CS6 Bridge either, although audio plays in Windows Media, so I assume system has correct codec installed.

Why can't I play AUTHORIZED content through Home Sharing?

I have 2 laptops, one is a doomed Win and the other is a blessed Mac.
I tried home sharing for the first time and to back up my content to my Mac. Both are authorized to play the same content, HOWEVER, some TV shows just won't play (and of course if you can't play it through home sharing, you can't copy it) and I keep getting the authorize computer message!
Any idea why that is?
I can't believe that I had to go over my music, playlists and shows one by one before I can move them into the other library, not to mention that I've purchased those items myself under my account!

If the computer is accessible via home sharing, then it should be possible to simply browse to that computers drive as well.
Simply copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.

Why can't I download "Added Content for Adobe Premiere Elements 10"?

I have purchased the dual-packaged Adobe Photoshop elements 10 and Adobe Premiere Elements 10 - Then when launching the Premiere Elements I get a message to download the "content for Adobe Premiere Elements"
I have tried to do this for a couple of hours now, and I have no idea why I can't get a link.... I keep getting referred to pages with no links at all...
Can anyone help?.

Actually, I DOWNLOADED this "bundled" program (as opposed to retail)... and of course, I have no CD's....
But I did figure it out - The "buyer-user" should log in to Adobe and go to https://store1.adobe.com/cfusion/store/html/index.cfm?store=OLS-US&event=displayDownloads There UREKA I found it... and it installed fine.
Hower, I do think your lay-out of the help pages on this matter could be improved.

Why can't I read the content of my HttpUrlConnection?

Hey all. I am having problems with the code below. I have run it through a tcp trace, so i know the responce I am getting from my
webservice i call.
The problem is, the Content Length http header in the webservice request is set to 0. There is a body in the request of the message.
When I try to do the input sream read, it always shows there is nothing in the unput stream! How can that be when there is a full responce in the body? Does the HttpUrlConnection just tell you there is nothing based on the Content Length header?

As I understand from your post that the remote server you are trying to access has the set the content-length in the header field as 0!!?? Seriously that I dont know how they did it. Might be when the reply is being send then they modify the response header.. That will be interesting to checkout how!! Anyways assuming that the Content-Length is 0 then below might be the possible explanation.
There is nothing wrong in your code. As per RFC 2068 (HTTP/1.1protocol)
section 14.14 Content-Length you will find that the applications SHOULD use this field to indicate the size of the message body to be transferred.
Hence the implementation of HttpURLConnection is that it creates a socket connection with the remote server and gets the Response Header. It reads the value of the COntent-Length field from the header. If the content-Length is ) then it assumens there is nothing more to read and hence reads nothing.
In your implementation you are using the input stream of the HttpURLConnection and not making a direct socket connection with the remote server.
It is due to this reason that when internally HttpURLConnection getrs the respose Header it fonds the value of the Content-Length as 0 and hence stops reading and consequntly your application also cannot read.

Why can't I use the content library in iMovie?

I can use every other feature in iMovie except for the Content library. It is not in my side bar, and when i get it from the tool bar above the options are gray like I can't use them.

If you're trying to get your Content Library to appear in iMovie, please make sure you have a movie project open, as it should then automatically appear.
You can find titles, transitions, music, and maps in the Content Library. The Content Library is at the bottom of the sidebar once you open a movie project.
If the sidebar is not already open, click Show in the toolbar.
At the bottom of the sidebar, select an item from the Content Library.
In the Browser, your selection appears (titles, transitions, and so on). Drag one to the timeline to add it to your movie.
If you add a title, map, or globe, you can adjust settings in the Adjustments Bar which is located above the Viewer. 
If you add a transition, double-click it in the timeline to adjust its duration.
To return to your video clips in the Browser, select an event in the sidebar.

Every since I upgraded to the latest version (19.0) of FireFox, I can't see the contents of my Profile. It says I have 144mb. FireFox is installed on MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.6.8.
I have even tried copying and pasting the files into a new empty folder. Command Info says 144mb but I don't see files. Somehow they are hidden? Any help is appreciated.
