Why can't I see a slideshow in a Time machine backup ?

I have created a slideshow which works fine, and shortly afterwards did a weekly backup using Time Machine.
I then made a small change to the slide show that changed the order (or rather the arrangement) of the pictures in the Sliding Panels themed slideshow. (annoyingly the change happened by simply un-ticking the 'show title slide' setting in slideshow settings). I want to return to the picture/panel arrangement that was in the original version, which happens to be better (I assume the selection is purely random) but when I look at the Backup in Time Machine I cannot see my slideshow, or any slideshow for that matter. So I have two questions:
1) Does Time Machine backup slideshows ?
2) If 'yes' how do I see them / restore them ?
(I have iphoto version 8.1.1 now, but this is because an automatic update has just kicked in. The slideshow was created using the previous version to this)
Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can use TM to restore individual photos/album or events or the entire library. When you restore the entire library you will get all books, slideshows, calendars, etc. that were there when the backup was made. You can also select to keep your existing library (depending on space available) in case the recovered library doesn't have everything you need.

  • Why can't I restore my iphoto library from Time Machine backup?

Hi, My Library mysteriously disappeared from my HD but I located it in Time Machine. However, every time I try to restore, after spending a while 'preparing to copy' I get a the following message:  "The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access [file name]. I have full access rights to the file... I have tried doing a straight copy and paste from my back up folder - with the same result. I did close iphoto while trying this exercise, again, this didn't help... I would be grateful for some advice as to how to persuade the system to all me to restore this precious file of 171GB, which has 10 years of pics in it! Many thanks.

    It's a normal issue. See > http://pondini.org/TM/E9.html

  • Why can't I include a SD card to time Machine backup

This is a bit of a weird issue.
Got a 64GB Micro SDXC card and mini usb adapter to give the 128GB MBA (running 10.7.4) a bit of space as it was running out of space.
I formatted the drive to OSX journaled and moved the iPhoto library to it, all good.
I decided i wanted to start a fresh backup so made a new Time Machine USB 500GB drive ready. I set it as the backup drive and in the options, remove my 64GB drive from the "Do not backup drive" list.
I remove it, in the bottom of the window, it shows that the estimated backup is 140GB, which it should. But when I close the window it seems to automatically revert back and when the time machine job runs, it says it is only backing up about 40GB.
I open the window again and the 64GB drive is back in the "Do not backup" list!
    Is this a bug?
Is there a specific HFS format i need to choose?

    Hi HPR,
The closest it says in there is
"External drives:  By default, it will exclude all externals.  To have one backed-up, you must remove it from the exclusion list, per question #10.  "

  • Why can I only see 1 video at a time on my touch 4g?

Why can I only see 1 video at a time on my iTouch 4g?  I have 3 in my iTunes library, but when I download a new one, the earlier one disappears from my touch when I sync.

It was most likely filled-in and saved with the Preview application on the Mac. For more information on why this is happening, see: http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/885/cpsid_88564.html

  • How can I restore my EQ settings from a Time Machine backup?

I recently reinstalled Mavericks, and restored my user account from a Time Machine backup. In doing so I appeared to have 'lost' my personal EQ settings in iTunes, of which I had perfected quite a few to suit various headphones and speakers I've found myself using over the years.
I have a pre-reinstallation copy of the com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist file (found in /Users/username/Library/Preferences) that I believe contains my EQ settings; opening it in Textedit I can see references to the EQ settings I created.
Having tried restoring this particular file from Time Machine and restarting and finding iTunes doesn't recognise the [old] custom com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist file, does anyone know a way I can re-import my old EQ settings, or do I have to try and manually create them again? (gah)
Thanks for any light you can shed on this!

Enter your Time Machine backup (via the TM icon in the menu bar) and find this file
    /Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
    and hit Restore.
It didn't reflect in iTunes immediately, but after a restart it appears to read the new (old) plist file. You should have your old EQ settings back.
Let me know if it worked for you...

  • Can no longer connect to shared drive for Time Machine backups

I have  a Firewire drive connected to my iMac and sharing enabled. 2 MacBook Airs then connect wirelessly to the same network and backup to the drive.
It has worked perfectly for the last couple of years with Lion and Mountain Lion.
Yesterday I upgraded to Mavericks and now neither laptop can see the shared drive in Time Machine, although the drive displays quite happily in Finder.
I have disabled and re-enabled sharing.  Booted and re-plugged the drive in and still when I go to Time Machine preferences and select drive, nothing is listed.
    Any ideas?

After hours and hours of constant searching and testing I still can't get it to work?
    Any ideas?
I think sharing has changed in Mavericks.

  • Can't boot my Mac after attempt of Time Machine backup

    So guys,
I just bought new Macbook Pro and it came with Yosemite. It is one thing that I specifically asked not to get with it, but I did. Anyway, since I didn't want it, I instantly went to Time Machine backup my previous Mac to the new one.
I booted my new Mac in recovery and started the time machine process. It went trough, found a backup that I wanted, asked me for my password and all looked nice. When the process started, it said something is wrong and rebooted. Now each time I want to start time machine backup process, I get the same message that says "searching for disks" when it comes to the moment of finding the system drive in the lap top. It will not boot any longer to the system. When i wanted to reinstall Yosemite, it doesn't see the drive that is supposed to see to install it. It sees only some small recovery drive. When I go to disk utility, I see Machintosh HD and some disk 1 drive that has sub group OS X Base System. Non of the options on drives like erase, format or similar are available. I basically can't do anything.
Someone has any idea what should I do?
    Thanks in front!

Please install OS X on an external device (USB/FW/TB/Flash disk-16GB) using OS X: Installing OS X on an external volume - Apple Support and boot from it.
Post the output of the following command from OS X Terminal when booted from this external device. Enter your password when prompted, and it will not be echoed back.
sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

At one point, I changed the destination folder if memory serves...I had to replace the hard drive, and got all of my pictures back from the External Hard Drive, so I knwo they are there somewhere.....it is driving my nits thati can go downstairs, see the pictures on the TVm but can't find them ANYWHERE!!!!!!!

  • Can OS 10.7 limit the number of Time Machine backups

I'm using a 2TB Western Digital My Book Live to backup my 2011 MacBook Pro on a home network that's shared with Windows 7 machines.  Can I limit the size of my Time Machine Backup to 500GB or limit the number of backups?

You can limit the size of the TM backup by using this automator script.

Has anyone else either used this suggestion... or can offier any input?  Pardon the comment... but the mod worried me a wee bit.
No. Hacks worry me in general, and the deeper inside the OS they dig, the more I'd be worried. Here's why. It's not a matter of if they become a problem, it's when. The OS will continue to change. That's a given. As it does, they absolutely do not take into consideration accomodating hacks. In fact, there have been circumstances where they have gone far out of their way to make sure hacks do not work in future updates. Trusting your data backups to that scenario??? No thanks. And yes, the same continuous update situation is true of any software (it doesn't even have to be third-party, as we've seen many times), but software apps more in the mainstream continue to be updated, while hacks . . . .

  • Why did Snow Leopard delete ALL of my leopard time machine backups?

I received my copy of snow leopard on Friday. I verified my time machine backups were functioning and current. At the time my backups went back to April of 2009. I performed the upgrade from leopard (10.5.8) to snow leopard (an actual upgrade not a re-install). There were no issues with the upgrade. Today (one day after the upgrade) I noticed time machine running. When looked at what time
Machine was doing it said it was "deleting backups". After that finished it performed a backup. When I went into time machine after that my backups only go back to yesterday. It appears time machine has wiped out all of my leopard based backups. Are
y leopard based backups still there? This appears to mean I can't rollback to leopard or even get files pre snow leopard. It would have been nice to have confirmation from time machine before it did this....

Time Machine shows the oldest backup is Friday, August 28, 2009. I downloaded Time Machine Buddy widget and it works but froze on me twice. I followed the advice in this article (http://www.macworld.com/article/131534/2008/01/tmeye.html) and used the console utility searching for the backupd process. The system logs only go back to 8-29-09 so maybe the logs got purged. The logs do show however that Time Machine deleted the old backups so it could make a 147gb backup. It did this a couple of times....I'm beginning to think though that it has to do with my updating to ilife 09 as well. I updated to ilife09 on Saturday 8/29/09. I have a 140gb photo library (the downside of owning a nikon d80). Updating iphoto 09 tweaks your photo library several times (initial install, after pulling down latest updates from apple, etc). I have a 750gb internal boot drive and a 750gb external time machine drive. I think that each time iphoto tweak the iphoto library it had to perform a ~150gb backup. This would have quickly canabalized all of my old backups... so bottom line is it's the iphoto upgrade and my large iphoto library and NOT Snow Leopard that caused this issue...oops my bad! A work around would have been to shut off time machine before I upgraded to ilife09... and then not turn it back on until iphoto was settled down with updating the library.

  • Why can't I access the download folder in time machine?

When I access history in Time Machine the Download folder is grayed out and I can't access the files. Is there another location I can look to find those files that have been downloaded using Safari?

Firefox will not appear in the Market for most phones with incompatible hardware. I believe the Motorola Bravo is supported. You can check if your phone is supported here:
    https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android
On some supported devices, a bug prevents Firefox from appearing in the Market. This may be related to the recent Market update. You can go to Settings/Applications and uninstall the Market update, then find and install Firefox.
Or, you can download the app directly from here:
    http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases/4.0b3/android-r7/multi/
(Note: To download the app directly for an AT&T phone, you will have to search for instructions on how to "sideload" the APK file, since AT&T disables the option to install from non-Market sources.)

  • Display has gone - can anyone assist me to do a final time machine backup?

    Hi all,
My macbook pro for the last couple of months has done something odd sporadically - the display kind of crashed (ie looked like the screen was smashed pixels everywhere) so I assumed my mac was on its last days and ordered a new one, hopefully arriving tomorrow.(i did get it in 2006 or 2007)
However, last week the display went for good, and i really cant see my screen very well. I tried turning it on and off lots of times, and while this worked for a little while (ie if i turned it off 20 times once might work) it doesnt anymore. (of course the lesson learnt is the minute things start to seem wrong do the back up! grr)  I did back up everything with time machine but not that often...the last one was probably a month or so ago, so i would like to do a final back up to make a copy of anything new that was added in that last month, as there were plenty of important additions
As i can see a tiny bit of the screen around all the distorted areas, i might be able to tweak a couple of options in time machine, if someone could kind of direct me - ie, what happens when time machine starts etc and what I should click, i might be able to do another back up.
my time machine back up is on an external hard drive...and from what i remember, when i plug in the external hard drive it automatically starts backing up. however, now, i can see the icon in the top corner (next to the wifi signal, spotlight icons etc) but it doesnt spin around (the movement it made whilst backing up)...any advice?
alternatively, would a better solution be to kind of remotely salvage contents of my dead macbook with my new one? is that something i can do even though I won't be able to adjust security settings/bluetooth visibility settings etc on my dead macbook (forgive my ignorance i really know nothing about this, (obviously) just that I know thats possible in some cases to repair etc)
any advice would be more than welcome, i assume its a memory issue that has caused my screen to pack up like this. the trouble is you have a half decent view of the desktop at first (plus i can remember where most things are) but once you start clicking or moving things the display goes a bit mad! sadly i can't take it to an apple genius or store as i live quite far from one, and was quite resigned to scrapping this one and getting a new update anyway, so i really dont want to replace the memory etc for something i wont use again.
Many, many, many thanks in advance!
from what i can recall, i think its a silver macbook pro 15' bought around 2006 or 2007, I think it has a 2.2 ghz processor and had about 150 gb hard drive.

Pull out the hard drive, put it in a nice external case (I like the ones from Other World Computing macsales.com). You can then transfer the data to your replacement Mac as soon as you get it, and can work from the data on that drive with any Mac until you get a new one of your own.
While you're at it, get another external drive that's at least as large as the drive in your new Mac to use for backups. Keep on it a recent bootable backup of your drive (using Carbon Copy Cloner, backuplist+, or something similar) as well as frequent Time Machine or similar backups on some other device.

  • How can I get specific files back from my Time Machine backup?

I wanted to make a fresh install on my MacBook Pro, in order to only have Java 8 instead of any older Java versions. So far so good. But now I want to get specific files/libraries from my external backup (USB):
    One Parallels Virtual Machine
    My old mail
    My iPhoto Library
I don't need any settings for these, since I can easily configure them again.
I already used the Migration Assistent to restore all apps.
How can I get specific data back from the backup without restoring all stuff that I don't want anymore?
I'm now working on a new account on the fresh system, called 'Admin'. My old account was called 'Hans' (or 'hans') and I'd like to create such an account again for all my tasks.

You will want to add the same User account(s) which hold the data you want to restore. So you will want to add a User account of 'Hans or hans'. Check your Time Machine back up drive to see how the User account is labeled (Hans or hans). Navigate to the Users folder and see how it's labeled.
You can then use your Time Machine back up drive and navigate to the User Home folder to copy its data over (e.g. contents from Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, etc.). Repeat for other Users.
