Why can't I see my documents and backups?

I have iCloud working on my Iphone, MacBook Air and my Iphone for pushing appts, notes, etc. But I really don't 'get' iCloud when it comes to backups and documents. in the system preferences it says I have mail, document(s) - from IAWriter, and backups taking up space but when I browse to iCloud all I can see is the appt calendar, find my iphone (and mac), contacts,,.. iworks (which I don't own and it wants me to buy). I don't see my 'storage'. So how the heck would I restore from the Cloud or anythig usefull?
I just wonder where oh where are my backups and documents and mail??? And what's the point of having a me.com email address when I have perfectly good IMAP mail at gmail??
Can sonmeone clue me in. And note I'm Canadian so Itunes 'match' and uploading music, etc. is not available.

I don't have/use IWorks. I have IAWriter that added iCloud support. So I can save a file to the Cloud but.. when I checked it appears only to support IWorks? I did actually mention documents..... but nevermind. I'm just seeing what the best use for me of iCloud is.. and perhaps for documents that are not iWorks (pdf, doc, etc.) I need another solution.

After a clean install of Yosemite 10.10.3 on a MacBook Pro, I chose not to upgrade from iCloud to iCloud Drive because it would break syncing with my iPhone 4. My docs are still visible in iCloud, according to System Preferences. I can access them on my iPad but I not from my MacBook Pro. Calendars and Contacts sync ok.
I tried logging out of iCloud, rebooting and logging back in, but that did not remedy the problem.
What's gone wrong?

Just so I'm clear. You have enabled iCloud Drive in your iCloud preferences:

Why can't I see all of my backups on Time Capsule?

My Time Capsule is full, and I'm trying to do some maintenance.
I have an old backup on there from an old computer, but I can't see it when I use finder. Very old Macs can see the sparse bundles when I browse over, but new Macs only see backups for themselves.
1) How can I see all of the backup bundles on a newer Mac?
2) How can I safely delete backup bundles I no longer need?
Finally, when I activate Time Machine I only see backups on my machine going back 1 month. But when I browse over to the Time Capsule I see backups going back to 2011. I suspect this problem is due to a migration I did back in April, or else an OS ugrade.
3) Why can't I see my backups before September 2013?
3a) Is there something I can use to get access to those backups?
3b) if not, how can I safely delete the unusable backups?

It is common when the disk is full for TM to delete the old backups for your computer.. it cannot delete other backups for other computers.
This is done without warning now.

A gen1 TC if that is what you are still using is liable to die at any moment. I recommend you archive off all the backups now.. simply plug in a USB drive the same size as the internal disk and select archive in airport utility.. it will take several hours to copy the whole disk.. and you cannot do backups in the meantime. Then erase the TC and start with clean fresh backups.. maybe also to a USB drive so when the TC dies you can just move it.

A document open in the adobe reader but it is just a blank sceen. but I can print it and see what it says?

Does this happen with every PDF that you try to open using Adobe Reader or is this a document specific issue?
Also, please let me know what Reader version are you using? How was this PDF created?

You cannot normally directly access the file system on an iPad (or any other iDevice) from the PC or Mac like to view a video or listen to music. You'll have to connect the iPad to the PC using iTunes and sync the video to the PC to view it on the PC.

HT4796 Why can't I see my email and calendar records after transfer is complete?

I used Migaration Assistant to transfer my MS Outlook email and calendar etc from a windows XP Pro laptop and expected to see the transferred content when I opened Mail and Calendar, but they are empty. Is there some action I need to take in my mac to make the content appear?

Try looking at System Preferences/Users & Groups to see if Migration Assistant created a new user. If so, what you want is probably in that account.
If you can log into that account, make the user library visible by holding down the option key while using the Finder "Go To Folder" command. Enter ~/Library. Move the Mail Folder and Calendar folder to the Public Folder. Look for other files you want and put them in the Public Folder. Log into your normal account, retrieve the two folders from the Public Folder, and then put them in the account's user Library. Test.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.

You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

Why can't I see my accounts and all my folders after moving profile to new Windows ?

Following clean install of Windows 7 over XP, I've copied across my old profile (as per instructions on this Forum, and others). Profile contains about 46 items, copy and pasted into newly created .default file. (Previous to which all new content was deleted) profile.ini appears to be pointing to correct file/location. When I launch Thunderbird, it is completely blank, no accounts etc., and no folders. The only thing showing correctly is my address book (thank goodness!) so presumably it is accessing the profile file OK ?
Why are none of the accounts showing, or any of the (many) folders storing my old emails ?
Can anyone point me in the right direction on this re: troubleshooting my profile file ?

I've just about got there now, moving folders around (there appear to be three files per item) till they're more or less in the place where I want them in the Folder pane:

Everything seemed to want to go into Local Folders, but I now have my four email accounts going into a single Inbox Folder, but in their own sub-folder.
Strangely, the label for each is in a separate location. Still puzzled by the logic of the filepath within the profile file. Plenty of articles of where the Profile Folder should be, but nothing on the actual layout/construction of the Profile to get folders appearing where you want them ?
Anyway, it's going to be next week before I can look anymore at this, so thank you for taking the time to respond.
My research before all suggested that it was a simple matter of copying the profile to an external drive, reloading Windows and Thunderbird, and then copying profile back in. Its obviously far more complicated than that. I don't know what version I was on before, but the new one is 24.6.0

Make sure your black phone is using the same or higher version of iOS as your white one, and that it is signed into the same iCloud account.

Assuming you activated iCloud, try going to Settings>iCloud and make sure Calendars and Contacts are set to ON.

There was no driver update available (it said my driver was up to date), so I just deleted the scanner and restarted the computer. when it came up, the scanner had already been added again. With great anticipation I tried to import from Photoshop...but no luck (scanner was not visible). I finally ended up calling Epson (had great difficulty in locating a number for support) and they finally told me there is no driver update for OS X 10.10 and I should as a work around use "Image Capture" application. I tried it, and it works quite well.

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

You don't need to install iTunes for the purchase history. You can see it in your iPad (iTunes > Purchased), but you need to install it if you want the order numbers
