Why can't I share a Quicken file with another user on my mac?

I have a new mac. Used to have a pc  with ms money. it was set so that both my wife and I could open Money and work on the same file (our checkbook).
I get a "can't open file....no permission" message from Quicken if I try to open from my wife's login.
I have the file in the Shared folder and I manually went into File Sharing and set her up to read& write on that folder and file but I still get "no permission"
There has to be a way for 2 people to work on the same file, yes?

I found the answer on the Quicken Support site. Unbelievable!!!!

Unable to Share a Data File Between Multiple Users on the Same System
Cause The Quicken Essentials data is a data package that contains multiple files.  Each item in the package has permission set based on the current users profile.  When the Package is moved to a shared folder, the permission in the data package are not changed, therefore cannot be accessed by another user.
You can change the permissions for each individual file within the data package to be accessed by other users.  However, the first user who opens the file after the permissions have been changed, will take ownership of the data package, and it will no longer be accessible by the other party again.
SolutionThis issue is currently a product limitation and is expected to be resolved in a future version of Quicken Essentials for Mac.

  • How do I share iTunes access privileges with another user on my mac?

My wife and I use the same Mac. I recently created a separate user account for her after upgrading to Mountain Lion (so that we can get full functionality out of the new features). I gave her user account full administrator access as well as read & write sharing ability in certain folders... So why can she not purchase content on iTunes? What is the best way to extend the same iTunes account across different users on the same Mac?

  • How do i share a file so another user of my mac pro can access

    Hi
I have a file on my mac pro that I want others to use for presentations without them seeing all my private info.  I have set up a new user but how do I share the file the other user on my mac pro can see it?

Place the files you want to transfer on the Desktop
Click on the Finder or desktop to swtich to Finder, then Go > Computer, then double click on the boot drive, then on the Users folder.
Open the target User folder and inside is a Public folder > Drop Box, just drag and drop in there and the permissions change so that user can use the file.

  • Why can I no longer open .doc files with Word2011

I can no longer open .doc files with Word 2011.  .docx files are not a problem.  Everything stops responding as soon as I try to open a .doc file and I have to do a manual reboot (by holding the power button down).  This seems to coincide with my update to Mavericks OSX.  I have Word version 14.3.9.
A colleague of mine is having the exact same problem.
I tried repairing my disk permissions but this didn't help.
    Please advise.

  • File sharing with another user on a Mac

    Dear Guru,
I am trying to add my wife on my Macbook as another user with Admin privilege.  And I also want to share certain files in a folder with her.  This folder was shared (following the instructions from the internet) and was moved under a "Public" folder under me (as an user).  And of course, this "Public" folder was also marked "shared".  But when my wife cannot see this folder from her side after logging in.  Can someone tell me why?  What did I do wrong?
    James

There's a simpler way to do this.   OS X automatically creates a user folder called "Shared".   Look in Mac HD > Users > Shared.
This user account (folder) and any files or folders you save there are available to all users on the Mac.  It's the quickest way to copy, move or share files across accounts on the same Mac.   There is no need to turn on File Sharing or otherwise specify shared folders.
One note:  although the /users/Shared folder itself has full Read & Write permission for all users, OS X file permissions are still operative on any files or folders you put there yourself.   Often by default, documents and other files you create will have a "Read Only" permission for the group "everyone."   You may need or want to change the file or folder permission for "everyone" to Read & Write if you want other users on your Mac to be able to directly edit that particular document or file.   This is easy enough to do in GetInfo.

  • Want to share some music with another User on my Mac - how?

    Hi everyone,
Here's what I want to do, and any help is appreciated.
My fiancee and I both users on my Mac laptop. Currently, we have our own iTunes library in our respective user folders. She wants some of my songs in her library, and I want a few of hers. I don't want to waste hard drive space, so I am trying to figure out how she can have some of my music in her library without creating duplicate copies on the hard drive. Then I want to be sure the shared songs she likes will upload to her iPod when she tries to sync.
From reading the various entries, I think the solution to this is to have a shared library in a public folder. However, I have a few questions about how this will work.
    1. I don't want to see most of her music in my iTunes, and she doesn't want to see most of mine in hers. Can we control this with a shared library, or will each person see all of the available music?
    2. What will happen when we try to sync our iPods? Will my iPod try to import all of her music that I don't want? Will hers get all of mine, or just the songs she wants?
Thanks in advance for your help...
PS - yes, I did read the article that covers most of this topic, but it didn't answer some of my questions.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93195

Just in case anyone is having the same issue - since there were no responses to this post, I bit the bullet and copied my iTunes library into our shared folder.
    1. Our libraries stayed the same - nobody's music showed up in the other person's library. If she wants additional music from the shared library, she can just drag it into her iTunes from the shared folder on the finder level.
    2. The iPods behaved exactly as expected - they would only sync to the user they were attached to.

  • Ichat 4.05: Why can't I share an m4v file in ichat Theater?

I was trying to share a video that I purchased off of iTunes via iChat Theater, but all that appears is a gray screen. The file is an MPEG-layer 4 video file labeled .m4v. I checked to make sure that it was compatible with QuickTime (as that is the only outline set forth for video files in iChat help). Does any one have ANY advice on this issue?! It is frustrating, because the reason I bought the video on iTunes was to share it, and now it doesn't work! I tried converting the file using iSquint (a third party program) to no avail! It confuses me because the 'logo' of the file, unlike other mp4s, looks like an audio file (uses the itunes logo), instead of a video, but as I said it plays fine on iTunes, QuickTime, and my ipod. What is going on here?
    Thanks!

This turned out to be a case of asking the wrong question.  Our file server was changed from an AFP to SMB but the problem I was having was due to the fact that folder names had also been changed (dog knows why). Makes me wish there was a way to delete the whole question.

Are you getting any error messages?  What do they say?  Exactly what occurs when you try to open the .mov file?
Which app & version are you trying to use to open the .mov file?  If QT, which one, vX or v7.x which is located inside your Utility folder?
    Per your system profile:

    Please correct.
