Why can't I share between computers?!?

I am trying to share music between two of my home computers and I have followed the directions in the help section but there is one big problem. It says to click the box in preferences under sharing to "look for shared libraries" but there IS NO BOX that says this. Both computers say that sharing is on but I can't see the other on either one. I know I used to do this all the time and had no problem. Don't know why its got to be so difficult now.

I just got a new Mac Pro, and I had some difficulty getting Migration Assistant to work, so by the time I finally did get it to work, I already had a few apps and docs on my computer. So after I ran Migration Assistant, I discovered that some of my files had disappeared. I finally figured out that I now had two different users on my computer (that were both me) and I had to switch to the other version of me to get my missing files. So I logged into my other user account, and I moved everything into the shared folder, and then went back to my current profile and tried to open the drop box. I got this message: "The folder “Drop Box” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents." So I went back and set the sharing and permissions so that everyone could read and write. Then I went back, and I still got the same error message. So then I went back and set the permissions of every folder in the hierarchy so that everyone can read and write. Still got the same error message. Then I went into my old account, went into Sharing in the System Preferences, turned on sharing and set it so everyone has read and write access. Still got the same error message. So before I just copy everything onto an external drive, I thought I'd see if anyone here had any ideas.
I really wish I could opt out of this whole "users" business, on my own computer computer in my own home. That's one thing I really miss about OS 9.

NNot sure if anyone help you resolve this or if it works with Mavericks but with Yosemite I couldn't send From iPhone 5 or iPad mini 2 because my Macbook Pro wasn't able to be seen via AirDrop. After a grueling 4 hours with support and factory resets of both devices I was transferred to the CPU Support team, which resolved my issue in about 3 mins. Needless to say I wasn't happy but figured I should help anyone else in the same boat as me. I have both devices operating on iOS 8 and MacBook pro rubbing Yosemite.
1. Open Finder Window -> Airdrop -> Change setting for "Allow me to be discovered by:" to no one and close the finder window.
2. Go To Apple Logo -> Force Quit -> Select Finder from App List -> Force Quit.
3. Open Finder Window -> Airdrop -> Change setting for "Allow me to be discovered by:" to everyone and try to send file from iPad / iPhone to computer.
This process allowed the computer to be seen / recornized on the iOS deVice. Hope this helps.

Your project is already saved in an iMovie Library on your hard drive. Re-installing iMovie will not affect your project or event files.
To reinstall iMovie, just drag the iMovie application from the Applications folder to the trash.
Reboot your Mac.
Go to the Mac App Store and look under Purchases for iMovie and click Install.
You cannot edit your iMovie 10 project in iMovie 9.
iMovie 10 is so stripped down that one really needs to either go back to 9 or, if they can afford it, move up to Final Cut Pro X. If you're strapped for cash at the moment, you can download a trial version of the new Final Cut Pro X 10.1 and get 30 days of free usage out of it, even if you've already been using a free trial of 10.0.9.

Ordinary webspace won't do - what you get is a text file: this is the problem - MobileMe took the file published by iCal and formatted it as a calendar. Presumably if you were running your own server as indicated in the help page it would do the same; but unless 1&1 can speficially provide you with a CalDAV server it's not going to work.
Do your colleagues have Macs? For those who do, they can subscribed to a shared calendar in iCal and it couldn't be simpler. Presumably Windows owners could do the same thing in a suitable calendar program; and this is a lot simpler solution.

box.net can do this for you. I seem to remember that this arose a while back, but I have a feeling that the poster then couldn't get it to work. I can't advise on that, but you might want to investigate it as an option.

Because you have a problem you need to fix - no mind readers here - exactly whyat happens? Why can't you e-mail photos? How are you doing it? What e-mail client are you using?
The general answer for iPhoto '11 is
in the iPhoto preferences ==> accounts delete your e-mail account and reenter it

IMHO the better solution is to set Apple mail as the email client in the iPhoto preferences

Why can't I translate between Swedish and Polish in the same Word document. This means I want to switch between two keyboards.

Why can't I get a Polish keyboard easily accessible from within my Word program? I have to choose it in Finder and then I can't switch back and forth between English/Swedish and Polish in the same Word document. Surely there must be a simple way of doing this by means of keyboard commands while I write, or do I have to go back to my old PC for that?

In short, you choose the three keylayouts you wish to use for English, Polish, and Swedish, respectively, and then you set the shortcuts you prefer to use to switch between them.

Why can't I Share or see shared music???????

recently downloaded latest itunes version (7.1.1.5). I have the settings set to share music and look for shared music. I am on a network with hundreds of people and I can't see any folders but other people can see each other. Why can't I see anything? I checked and my firewall is not on either...

It could also be that no one else has their library opened up for sharing.
If that was the case then the other people couldn't see each other.

I have 5 computers authorized to use in i tunes and would like to de Authorize 4 .Why can't there be a listing of the authorized computer and then you can choose which one to deauthorize.

The short answer is that Apple don't currently have that option. You can either individuall deauthorise computers directly on them, or you can 'deauthorise all' (which you can do once every twelve months) and then reauthorise the computers that you still have and need.

Why can't I share from faces?

I can use the share buttons all day long from anywhere but the "Faces" folder in the Library, but as soon as I navigate to a photo or two in the Faces, the Share items gray out in the toolbar and the menu.
Any hints or thought on how to fix this, or is this a known issue?

It's just how it works. (Faces is a highly specialized Viewer, with its own thumbnails and Previews. Note that these "Faces" crops cannot be exported. You can share the full image, and you can create your own cropped Versions, but you cannot access (and thus cannot export) Aperture's own Faces crop.)
A couple of easy work-arounds for sharing the whole image:
. For single images:
. . right-click and show in Project
. For multiple images:
. . either select them all and create a new Album, or flag them and then go to Flagged View.

Why can't I share my Internet between my computers?

Where I live there's a free Wi-Fi hot spot downstairs, so I pick up my Internet from there using Airport Extreme on my PowerBook G4, (10.4.8). My other two computers are: an iMac G3 (10.4.8), and a PowerMac G4 (10.4.8); (neither have airport).
Using Ethernet Cables, I'm trying to network all 3, as well as share the Internet. I've turned on file sharing, Internet sharing, I'm using an Ethernet switch, I'm using patch cables (not crossover cables).
I keep getting the same result, the Network Status page of System Preferences says the following for each:
PB G4 - "Airport is connected to the Airport network xxxx, and you are connected to the Internet via Airport."
PM G4 and iMac G3 - "Built-in Ethernet is currently active and has the IP address 192.168.x.x. You are connected to the Internet via Built in Ethernet."
but when I try to use Safari, it says: "Safari can't open page "http://www.xxxx.com/" because your computer isn't connected to the Internet."
Any ideas?

You are attempting to set up a complete network. To eliminate the DNS error looking up a web page by name, you will need to set up DNS on your macs by hand (and hope that the access you are using has made this easy for you) This is one of the components of a normal network that is handled automagically when you have a simple network (one router and lots of clients)
By sharing the internet - you are only sharing packets, not high level services. You might be able to look at the network preference pane on your "main mac" and copy the DNS server IP addresses and use them on the "remote macs" - but there are a lot of network configurations where that will not work.
You might also get away with buying an Airport base station and using that to connect to the network below - it is meant to be a router and (again depending on the settings of the network provider - the wireless link below) you might be happier with that setup to bridge the wireless network to the ethernet switch and have your PBG4 still connect wirelessly.
It's hard to tell without control of the main network device...

Can no longer share between networked computers

I recently noticed (possibly just after most recent security upgrade) that I could no longer share files between my wirelessly networked desktop and laptop computers, both running 10.5.8. I have never had a problem before, but suddenly, if I tried to access files from my Intel Macbook using my iMac G5 (PPC), I was told I had insufficient privileges.
After trouble shooting for awhile and resetting prefs and rebooting, I now find I also no longer have sufficient privileges to access the iMac from the Intel Macbook! So I am stuck.
I CAN connect one computer to the other and I can share the printer but, although File Sharing is also checked, and both accounts/computers have Read/Write privileges, little "No Entrance" icons are plastered all over my folders and I cannot drop or transfer files let alone open them.
What is going on suddenly? What can I do to correct this as I really need to share.

Are you saying that if you log into the 'Intel Test User' account and 'Connect As' a registered user ie. <test> that your username and password are accepted but once you are logged in you cannot see any of the folders?
In Sharing, file sharing and printing are still checked but the only other option is for DVD/CD sharing - no list of Users who might have access etc.
Are you saying that in System Preferences/Sharing that services like Screen Sharing, Web Sharing etc are missing and that if you select File Sharing that the Shared Folders and Users panes are empty?
2) Intel can see PPC HD, but the "Connection Failed". In Sharing, file sharing and printing are checked and you can see Intel's users. The main User for that machine is dimmed and has a No Access icon over it.
So you can log into the PPC Mac but when you try to access the HD or open a folder it drops the connection, is that right?
I apologise for all the questions but I am having a little difficulty visualising what is happening here so can't really make any constructive suggestions until I know what we are up against.
