Why can't I "skip selection" in multitrack-mode

I have just startet testing AA3.0 for the purpose of editing radio stories. One important feature I have used a lot in other programs, is playing preroll / postroll (skip selection) before I do the actual cut.
According to the AA3.0 User Guide (p.61), this feature should be able to activate by right-clicking one of the play-buttons, and choosing "Play Preroll And Postroll (Skip Selection)".
But for some reason this only seem to be possible in the edit-mode - and not in multitrack mode? Edit mode is fine, but I prefer working non-destructive in the multitrack mode - and I really miss this feature. Anyone know how to activate "skip selection" there?

First of all - I have learned that what I (to be honest...) suspected was a bug, in fact is a chosen way of organizing the program. I also partly understand the choice, even if I don't like it:
In MY way of editing multitrack radio stories, there would be no problem with such a feature (quite the contrary...). For my part,I mainly use it when editing an interview-track where I often need to do cut away LOTS of long or short fragments, where the exact positioning of the cuts are vital for preserving the smoothness of the voice.
A reduction of the cutting operation from 3-4 mouse positionings, clickings and draggings to, say, 1-2 (with a "skip selsction"-feature), would save me a substatial amount of work.
If the other tracks (i.e. sound contentum, reporter comments) already are added to the project, of course they at this point won't anylonger be synchronized with the track I've cut down. But that's not a problem. When I'm finished cutting down the interview-track, I just group the others, drag them all to the new position where all is synchronized again. So for MY pupose, it would be completely fine if "skip selection" was restricted to work only on the single highlighted track. (While cutting in this track, I would already have muted the other tracks anyway...)
But this is MY way of doing things. Of course, a program like this has to take into account several different needs and different editing styles, and I see SteveG's point that "you'd have to think the rules through carefully".
Nevertheless - I'm still not sure if I fully understand the reason for leaving the feature completely out. Those who don't need it, don't have to use it. Now - those who need it, miss it.

Like on my iPod when i'm listening to music i can skip to other songs very fast, but on iTunes its pretty slow.. like i can skip about 3 songs in a row before my clicking does nothing on the skip icon.

You can of course use the same Apple ID on all your Apple devices. But, each time you're resetting your ID, you're causing yourself a 90 day issue. At this point, contact Apple for assistance. If you're in the US, you can call 1-800-MYAPPLE

Why can't we use GUI_Download in background mode...........

Hi experts as per the requirement my program should run at specific time in background mode, it need to upload the Personal numbers from the input file and for those personal numbers extract the data from multiple tables. but this report shd run in background.
and download the output in the form of flat file.
as i'm running in background mode can't use the F.M GUI_Download and GUI_Upload.
can any one guide me how to solve this issue and why can't we use these F.M. if we can't use then what is the alternative to run in background mode.

A program that runs in background mode doesn't have any connection to a frontend. After all, you can schedule it to run at a time where your frontend computer is not running.
In this case you have to load your files on the application server (or a mount point) and use the FMs C13Z_FILE_DOWN(UP)LOAD_ASCII(BINARY)

Why can't I view videos in landscape mode on my new Ipod Touch 5?

Why can't I view music videos in landscape mode on my new Ipod Touch 5? I was able to with my first generation Ipod Touch.
I hate viewing a small version of the video. If there aren't any fixes to the issue, there is no point in purchasing music videos. Clicking the screenlock icon doesn't work. It just allows you to view the small video in any mode instead of seeing album covers.

Why can I see cookies only in safe mode?

[FF 3.6.10] I can read and delete cookies in safe mode, but in full mode the cookies list appears only as the little triangular icons; If I click on any one these I see the cookies for that site. But why am I not able to see the site name in full mode? This behavior startwed tonight, just after I'd registered a password with a new sit4e that I was visiting. thx eda

Thanks, but that didn't work. With extensions & plugins disabled, cookies still weren't visible in the full-mode cookie window, but were still there in safe mode. (the RealJukeBox & RealPlayer Version plugins wouldn't stay disabled between sessions & anoyingly I can't uninstall them from the plugin page, but these weren't the problem.
The cookie names showed up again after I cleared the recent history. Maybe the problem was due to the active login of the site from which I allowed the cookie before the problem appeared. I've gone back and re-taken the cookie, and everything seems fine now.

Why can't I rotate/select my group?   Known bug? (CS5)

I have a group of a few layers that I wanted to resize.   As they are in a group and I only want to resize the object, not the picture, I select the move tool, than try to choose 'Edit->Resize'... and get a message telling me there's nothing in my group -- even though I see the object.
Is this another instance of the photoshop ignoring vectors?

I converted about half-75% of my layers to vectors, but the rest I need to as paintable surfaces. I just want the default backgrounds to take 1k vs. 64M.   I have Illustrator, it's impossible to draw with -- inkscape is better than that! If I was doing drafting, it might be what I needed, but I'm trying graphic arts with painting and effects -- and I need 64-bits I think since with 48G, photoshop uses up to 36 of that before it will spill with a 100-150GB swap file.
My file was over 3G, without converting to vector layers would have been 4-5GB, (tiff), after converting nearly all the static monocolor layers and gradient layers to vectors, the file shrunk to 250MB.
It looks cleaner, it's easier to modify things... easier to reposition parts, the problem is that vector elements don't hold or glom on to other vector elements -- the group that I'm trying to maniupulate is composed of pure vector elements... vector shapes (all the same one actually, I was trying to get it manipulatable, but no success).   If I rotate the vectors, none of the gradients (or other vectors) rotate with respect the vector I rotate -- even though they are all locked together. When I translated them x-y, the centers of the gradients didn't move, even though they are relative to the layer and not to the edges of the picture.
They are different -- you can see this -- if I disable the vector from a gradient layer, the graident's center shifts to the center of the picture... i.e. a gradient with a transition at the 50% mark oriented vertically, will be at position 2000,0 - 2000,4000, (x,y), (in a 4000x4000 picture) with the vectore turned off. But with it activated, the center will be at the center of the bounds of the graident layer when you create it. But if you move it -- it won't move.
If you rotate it , it won't rotate, nor will other linked vectors in the group.
I think that's the same problem with this -- as far as the "rotation/manipulation" s/w is concerned, the vectors and graidents "don't exists"...that's why they say their is nothing in the selection field and that's why they don't rotate vectors or gradients along with their bitmapped accents.
In this case, I built a hair-holder, purely out of gradients and shapes -- turned out much better than my hand painted one. For many things, I can't use gradients (or if I did, would take way too many layers...) At 500+ layers, photoshop groans unless I turn most of them off.   A paint/brush stroke can take up to a minute (it only uses 2 out 6 cores max, for filling these in)..   It can't handle that many layers unless they are off. Why it doesn't process them in parallel -- and why it doesn't do a better job of knowing most of them don't contribute to the area I'm drawing in is beyond me.
Maybe it's the same problem -- since it doesn't see the vector stuff (gradents, fill layers, shapes, vector masks), maybe it doesn't schedule them on multiple processes.

All of those masks are vector masks. No bitmapped graphics in that group anywyhere.
Did you create your example with only vector masks and gradients (or the photog effects).....I think
if I put a bit map layer in there, it would rotate the bitmap layer, but then mixed results on others stuff.
As for reviving old questions... I doubt it would help... they are easily duplicated bugs that Adobe doesn't really want to fix. If they did, they'd contact me and tell me where to upload my files... and when I could test out my patch.
I'd love it if they'd fix these problems, but I'm not holding my breath...

Why can't I use select tool on an inactive layer in CC 2014?

Path or direct selection only seem to work on the currently selected layer, rather than across layers as it did before. Is this a new feature, or bug? Finding and activating the layer(s) I want to modify is an egregious process. Any ideas?

You want three people to share 2 licenses. That's against the rules. Rules that seem reasonable to me. You're getting many Adobe applications for the price of 2.5 applications. A single application is $20/month while the full suite costs $50/month. You are welcome to buy each application you use for $20/month and have your third colleague use Acrobat for $20/month.
Adobe is not going to let you use any or all the applications in the suite for the price of 2.5 applications and also allow you to give away the unused applications to others, letting them avoid paying their own licensing fees.
To resume the buffet metaphor, Adobe has priced their all-you-can-eat (use) buffet (suite) at the cost of 2.5 entrées (apps) and doesn't allow you to take home (give away) leftover items (programs) for others to eat (use). You are welcome to buy each entrée at its own price and take home as many as you buy and let others eat them.
If you feel Adobe is making too much money with their buffet and entrée pricing models, then you're welcome to buy Adobe stock and get some of that extra profit for yourself.

When you create a folder in your Files, why can't we just select all the assets and print or download?

I was collaborating for the first time with a client and thought that, if she uploaded photos to the folder I shared/collaborated with her, that I could just select them all at once and download. Not the case. I feel this needs to be updated and perfected more.

Like most all companies, Apple does not annunce their reasons. There is nothing to fix. This is the way they intended it to be, for whatever reasons. They have much more information than you do and have made their decisions based on that information.

Why can't I download select photos from my ipad to my pc?

I can't down load photos from my ipad to my pc. My only choice is to dowload all photos not selected ones.

You can use 3rd party apps like File Transfer to selectively transfer photos to yor computer.

Why can I no longer select a downloaded, purchased ringtone as an alert tone?

Previously, this was not an issue. However, today I had to reset my phone and set it up as a new iPhone due to some difficulties I was having, and now it will not let me select a downloaded ringtone as an alert for my text messages. I have an iPhone 4S, with iOS 6.1.3, up to date, and it's not jailbroken. Please help me fix this, it's very annoying!

Naming a file with a dot is a dangerous and unpredictable thing to do. Whether it works CAN depend on what comes after the dot.

Why can I no longer select files manually and delete them?

When I select music files that are on my phone and then press the delete button nothing happens. I also can not select and drag music to and from my library and/or phone. I can only seem to use the sync option and I don't like having to do that. Did something change suddenly in the way iTunes operates now? I have the latest version so I'm good there. I'm also not able to sort by "date added, artist, album, etc." What's happened???

In Firefox sync setup, why can't I **De-Select** my Passwords??

The message box tells me to go to Device Settings to change syncing options. So I go to my Device Settings & Accounts, and I select my Firefox account. But when I click on the option to configure syncing (to turn on/off, automatic syncing, etc), it redirects me automatically & opens the Firefox Settings page again -- that SAME page that I started on with the error message box telling me to go to Device Settings!
I'm stuck in a "troubleshooting loop". What's going on?

I can sync manually like you described (by clicking "sync now"). But I'm still not able to de-select "Passwords" in the list of items that I want synced. I only want to sync my bookmarks and history, not my passwords.
The only place I've found where one can adjust that setting (i.e. choosing which items to sync) is within the Firefox settings, but it's not letting me de-select/select anything from the check box list.
Btw... Is there a way to post a screenshot here so I can show what my settings page(s) looks like?

Why can't HD be selected in Mavericks upgrade?

When I tried to upgrade to Mavericks on a 2010 iMac 10.8.5 I got my HD and Time Machine backup showing but both were noted as "this drive is used for Time Machine backups" or some such message and was unable to select the main drive for the install. I un-mounted the backup drive and shut it off but the now single main drive still had the message and could not be selected for the upgrade. I tried a restart, then a shut down, went to Disk Utility.for permission and verify but to no avail. What is going on and how do I get the disk selected for the upgrade?

After a long consultation with Apple Care people, they discovered a Backups.backupdb folder at the system level of the internal HD. Deleting the folder did the trick and now I'm patiently waiting for the install to complete.
