Why can't I sync music to my iPhone 4?

So I've had my iPhone for about 3 years now. Since about 2 years ago I haven't been able to download music from my iTunes to my iPhone at all. When I drag the song over my iPhone's name it becomes transparent and doesn't let me add my songs. I have enough memory to hold songs, I have about 4.6 GBs left on my phone. I can't figure this out.

Do you import them into iTunes or just copy the music in a folder ?

I've been having this problem since the release of iOS 7. iTunes will not let me sync songs to my iPhone 4s that I had bought from other sites, or have the CD to. It only syncs (through USB) the songs that I had previously bought off of iTunes. to me, this seems like a scam to get more money out of me, because I read up on iTunes Match, which I'd have to subscribe to, and it says in the description that it allows you to sync songs bought from other places. I'm considering selling my phone, and my iPod touch, for androids or windows phones because of this nonsense. If I have the songs in my possession, I should be able to put them on any device I want, without paying for a subscription to the service.

I believe I have two songs from the iTunes store, both free. Everything else is either from my own CDs or is digital music from other sources, including retailers such as Amazon. I have no problem getting that music onto my iPod. Nor do I use iTunes Match.

The process is:
Import the music from CD into your iTunes Library.
Add digital music (from non-Apple sources) to your Library
Sync iPod/iPhone with iTunes.
Job done
So what are you doing? Can we assume that you have the music in your iTunes Library? If so, what do you do now?

Hi Drumsing,
As long as you have your iCloud account set up and signed in on both devices, and the Notes checke in iCloud on both devices, there is no reason they should not sync.
Try resetting both devices - Hold down the Hole and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold until the Silver Apple appears. Do that for both, then try Notes again.
P.S., after you write a note, you need to close the App on the device you wrote the note on before you open the app on the other device to see it.....

Why can't I sync tunes from iTunes on my Sony Vaio to my iPhone 4s? My computer recognizes my phone but iTunes doesn't. Does it just need updating, if so then how do I do that? I haven't been able to sync tunes onto my iPhone 4s yet (I got it at christmas 2013)

Since your device is not recognized in iTunes, I would recommend the steps in the article below. See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

I had a large music library synced to my iPhone 3GS. I've now upgraded to an iPhone 5 but, when I try to sync this phone, the "Music" page is blank" except for the note iTunes Match is On. Yes, I do that each time, but it makes no difference. I've had an iPhone with music on for ages, and this issue only happened when I update to iTunes 11 earlier on in the year.

I have the 3rd Generation iPod Nano. I've had it for a little over a year, so I'm very familar with how to work it, etc. I've been trying to days now, to add more music to my iPod, but, for some reason, I'm unable to. I'll connect my iPod through the USB Port and my iPod screen will stay stuck on, "Connected. Eject before disconnecting." I've gone under "File" to see if I can click on, "Sync *My name*'s iPod", but that option isn't given. I'll click on "My Devices", and I'll click on "Sync", but it won't sync. I've gone onto the Apple website and I've tried the "5 Steps of Troubleshooting" numerous times, and nothing's working. I have no idea what's wrong with it. What could be wrong with it?
Just as an F.Y.I., my iPod's warranty ended ten days ago as of today. My sister also uses this laptop to sync her iPod Touch.

Sure you don't have the iPod set to manage the music manually?
You can check by going to the 'summary' page and you will see the option to:
"manually manage music". Is that selected?
If you want to auto sync your music etc, you need to click on the 'music' tab, where you will see the option to:
"sync music" with either "all songs and playlists" or "selected playlists".

Why can I not drag music to my iPhone anymore - iTunes Match

This is beyond a joke now. I cannot drag music onto my iPhone now. Apparently I have to download the music from iCloud first. It comes up with the message, "You must download items from iCloud beforeyou can copy them to your phone."
The music is on my bloody hard drive, why do I need to download it? Just a joke.
This is a frigging joke. How can I turn iTunes Match off, I've had nothing but bloody trouble with it since I bought it last week.
- Only about 60% of music is availble, I refuse to upload 8000 tracks, it will take months.
- I can't drag and drop music anymore to iPhone
- Why does it not match certain tracks off the same album 6/10 tracks from the same album, really?
- 5000 tracks with errors, really?
How do I turn it off and go back to normal? Is my library knackered now, will I have to reimport all my music.
So bloody annoyed with this.

Well, I've solved the problem now, just about!!!
What I did was followed most of the guidlines in the link you gave me and set the folder location for Itunes library to the D Drive where it was present. I then re-synced my music (which deleted everything and added everything back to my Iphone) and now it is letting me check the point "manually manage music and videos" without giving me the message so I have lost my playlists doing this and had a very frustrating time trying to sort this out but everything as far as I can see is now in place and I've kept my apps etc....

Why can't I delete music from my iphone using itunes match anymore?

I thought for sure I used to be able to swipe to delete albums or tracks on my iphone - on my iphone 5 I can no longer do this. I found that if I turn itunes match off, I can delete. But turning itunes match on and off a lot is really a huge issue. It seems every time I do this the iphone loses track of some of the music.
Why why why can't these problems be fixed?!

You download a great new album!
You want to listen to it on your iPhone!
Oh wait, your iPhone is full. Over capacity. AND YOU SPEND AN HOUR TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET SONGS OFF YOUR IPHONE, reading every forum and every trick to somehow make the product work the way it should. Trying to clear some space for that great new album you just got!
But it still doesn't.
... frustrated, you end up deleting the whole library. Because there seems to be no other way to clear space.
And re-download.
But "use cellular data" is back on, so it downloads when you're out.
And your phone bill is now $300 because you live in Canada and the data caps are so low.
Great. Now I paid over $350 to get my music I already own onto the phone.
At this point, the old USB seems like a better option. Or even the firewire 400. Longing for the days of my 10 gig iPod with a FireWire cable.

Last night I dragged an dropped and it was fine. Tonight I decided to add some more and now it isn't. I have the dreaded red circles with squares. It's greyed out when I look at my phone music on itunes. I have not time to check, uncheck, check, uncheck a thousand times.

This was my problem:
"song" was not copied to the iphone because it cannot be played on this iphone.
I did this:
1. right click displayed song on itunes.
2. click, "create AAC version
3. I dragged song to iphone, and it finally accepted the song.
conclusion: after days trying to figure it out, it was something easy the whole time.

I have music to sync to my ipod but when I go to the music tab of itunes it no longer gives the list of artists that I want to upload to my ipod. The only way I could possibly upload the music I want is by choosing to sync all music but that would require me to delete all of the music on my ipod and replaced with the music in my library. Unfortunately I do not have all the music from mt ipod in my library

I have 2 macs--a MacBook Pro and an iMac. I have ONE Apple ID (iTunes ID) that is registered on both machines. I used to sync my iPhone from the iMac, but now the iMac is in storage. I want to move some music from my MacBook to my iPhone and it wont let me...something about only being allowed to be synced to one iTunes library. It would erase everything on my phone if I wanted to add anything from my MacBook's iTunes library. Why isnt it the same iTunes library--it has the same iTunes ID/Apple ID? Each iTunes library has a unique ID.
Easiest way to do what you want is to use Home Sharing and copy the files from your MacBook to your iMac then sync the phone to the iMac.
