Why can't I turn off location services?  Restrictions are disabled.  The on off slidebar is grayed out.  I'm concerned my phone is being tracked.

While I know there are phones that can do this, they really are not powered "off" - they are more in a hybernation state.  However, the iPhone has never worked that way.  Off on an iPhone means truly powered off - nothing is still running so there is no minimal function left ticking away to wake up the phone and sound the alarm.

  • How do I turn off iMessage on my iPad?

I only want my messages to come on my phone and computer--not the iPad my kids use.  I still want the videos and apps available on the iPad, though.
I'd really like my kids (who are staying at my parents house) not to have access to the iMessages my wife and I are sending to each other.
The iPad seems to have lost the option to turn off iMessage.  I can either delete my entire Apple ID (and thereby disable all the apps and videos my kids use) or leave my iMessages on, and thereby have my parents and kids able to listen in to the conversation between my wife and I.
How do I remove my iMessages from the iPad?
    Help!?

You do not see this? Did you ever set up Messages on the iPad? Are you sure that you are not in the next Screen? Do you see a button "Messages" in the upper left corner of the screen thsat you are in? If so, tap it to move back one screen.

  • New owner of MBP, why can't you turn off the keyboard backlight in Win 7?

I'm a new owner of MBP. I have Windows 7 64bits installed on bootcamp. The keyboard backlight is really bothering me. I thought Boot Camp was out for awhile, and I don't know why can't Apple fix this backlight control thing? I downloaded that power assistant software and I liked it; however, I was turned off that it wasn't a freeware. What can I do to turn this backlight off permanently?

Well... seems like pre-2010 MBPs all had 'non-disablable' keyboard backlights on Windows. Installing BC 3.1 won't help at all. You could temporary minimize backlight level, but not turn it off. And on just any ambient light change it jumps back to maximum. Extremely erratic
A friend of mine got a 2010 MBP and he's able to turn backlight off. I've got mid-2009 model with BC 3.1, and I can't. My another friend has late-2008 model, he can't turn the backlight off, either.
I agree, ideally powerplan7 should have been a freeware. However, although I did spend $10 on a key, I'm oh-so-happy right now. With backlight disabled And since there are no alternatives AT ALL, I'm glad they're not selling this software for, say, $25.

  • Why can't you turn off the new message indicator on any of the blackberry devices?

i can't believe that i cannot turn off having my blackberry notifiy me when i get an email.  at the top of the homescreen i either get a "Message Count" or if I turn this off i get the little red asterik alert folder appearing, plus the mail icon gets a red asterik on it.  i don't want to see this and i know that many other users feel the same way.
has anyone figured out a way to turn this off?  if not, how can we let blackberry know they need to fix this in future models?  there are message boards all over the internet with this same complaint.
    a little more background:
    - the issue is on a saturday afternoon when i grab my phone to make a call, i don't want to see a little red asterik notifying me that i have a new message.  i also don't want to see a running count all the time.
    - i tried turning off the data plan part so new messages wouldn't reach me, but the problem with that is when i later turn the data plan back on, the new messages are not then sent.  they never each my phone.  seems the server tries sending them once and if the data plan is turned off they don't make it, but never make it.
i hope someone at blackberry reads this and they make this simple change in a future model.  i'll upgrade to it immediately when they do.  i love the device but hate being constantly reminded of new messages.

Hi dplindsey, and welcome to the foams!
It's also time for the 1am Eaddicts meeting to start
Here's the deal, Turn off all the notification, ring tones, led''s for emails.
Go to the main homescreen and hit the menu key twice select make a folder.
Go to your main message queue icon, highlight it and press menu, select MOVE.
Move the Icon in to folder.  TA DA!   It's GONE
Data plan is good so you can still browse the web. Emails are stil getting delivered so you arent missing any.
    What do you think?

  • Why can't I turn off my iPod???

Recently I went on a camping trip and charged my iPod in a friend's car with an apple charger. ever since I can't turn it off by holding the play/pause button. I've tried reseting it yet it just turns back on and I still can't turn it off. I even restored the iPod from iTunes. I tried running out the battery and fully recharging it and still have the problem. This is a refurbished iPod that Geek Squad sent to replace the one I bought that had other problems. What do I do??
5th gen 30GB iPod Video   Windows XP

    Hi Fredburger,
You may need to try letting your iPod's battery fully drain down, all the way until you finally reach the "Low battery" screen on your iPod.
Then, when it's finally run out of charge, connect it to your computer, and let it stay connected and recharging there for a full 4 hours.
Afterward, disconnect it from your computer (be sure to eject it from your computer, if needed), and try seeing if it will turn off.
    Any success with trying that?

  • Why can a thief turn off an iPad when it is in lost mode?

So My I pad mini with cellular was stolen from my house.  Silly me I did not have it pass code locked in the home.  But as soon as I noticed it was stolen I put it in lost mode.  The thief did not connect it to a network.  Then about 2 weeks later they connected it to a network I am guessing they took it out of airplane mode and the cellular connected.  So It went into lost lock down mode.  Great.......But what good does that do me when all they have to do is turn off the iPad????? and then I can not track it anymore.  I mean come on What is the purpose of leaving the power button active when it is in lost mode?  All that does it make it so no one can use the iPad and I can not catch the thief.  Another great option for this would that it would also send a GPX file that I could get and then find out who has my iPad.  That movement file would give lots of info like was the person moving when they turned it on i.e. in their car driving down a street and then turned it off or was it at one location for 20 minutes then they turned it off.  Again what good is a lost mode that all you need to get around is a power button.... High tech....I would like you to meet low tech......

I wouldn't suggest going to get it yourself. You could find yourself in a situation you cannot get out of and could get hurt. Second, as stated before, it is more for misplaced or lost devices, not stolen devices. Many police agencies do not feel they have probable cause, just from your statement on a map location to justify attempts to recover the device. There have been many posts from others who have had devices stolen where the police will not confront someone based on that map location. I understand you are impacted by the theft, but this is what we have insurance for. To protect your content, from now on I suggest you put a passcode on the device. I hope you have changed all of the passwords for accounts you had on the device, since all of your content and data was accessible to the thief.

  • Why can't I send an imessage on my ipad, but i can on my iphone? (Same receiver)

I can't send an imessage on my ipad, but I can when using my iphone. The message is being sent to the same person on both devices, but only the iphone sends it. The receiver is registered with imessage, but when I go to send the message, it says "this person is not registered with imessage". Also, emails do not work either. The send button is grey, and I am registered with imessage. Why does this happen? help?

    OK.
Turn off and on (restart) your iOS device (press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds, then slide the slider.)
    If restarting doesn’t fix it:
It has been reported that changing your DNS settings fixes this issue. To change DNS servers, follow these instructions for iOS devices (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad):
    Tap Settings
Tap Wi-Fi on the left-hand side
Tap the blue arrow next to your current Wi-Fi network
Tap the “DNS” field and enter the DNS servers; 8.8.8.8
Now see if it is working.

  • HT3529 Why can't I set up iMessage on my iPad?

It says iOS is up to date and it has battery. I sign in and my phone number & email are checked. When I press next, it says verifying for a few seconds then goes back to sign in. I keep trying but it doesn't change. My friend with an iPad 3 is having the same issue when she tries to setup FaceTime. I don't know how to make it work! I also have tried only checking my phone number or only checking my email but the result is the same. I've noticed however that it says iOS is up to date, 6.1.3, but on the Apple site there seems to be 6.1.4 available. I don't expect this is the problem, but it's just something I noticed.

  • Why can't I turn off video stabilisation on the iphone 5?

I'm sorry but this feature is absolute garbage. If I wanted to stablilise my video I'd do it myself, or hold my hand steadier. You basically can't film anything worthwhile without this crap ruining my video. As it's completely automatic, it basically doesn't work...like the auto focus on a camera. It's just terrible.
Apple have desperately tried to advertise the camera on the phone to be great, so great you can shoot your own video projects on it...but you can't, because of this **** auto stabilising nonsense. Some people might want to use it, like those with overly shaky hands, or those who don't mind their video digitally zoomed in, but I do not.
Please, give me the ability to turn it off so I can do a simple track of someone skating down the street.
    Thanks.
p.s. I also saw someone say "Why would you want to turn it off? That's like asking for a single core processor as opposed to the current one." No, this isn't the same thing. Idiot.
p.p.s Also, if I can turn this off and I'm just too ******** to find it, then fine, I apologise for my outburst.

  • Why can't I turn iMessage off on iPad 4?

I have iMessage off on iPhone 4S because so many of my friends/contacts are not on iMessage. Most because they can't have it.
Now I bought an iPad 4. When I turn off iMessage , a sign in screen covers my messages screen. And I have to sign in if I want to send any messages at all. As soon as I sign on the screen of course goes away but then it has turned iMessage back on
My son has an iPad 3. He is able to turn off iMessage and has no problem.
    What am I doing incorrectly?
I tried deleting network and reestablishong. And turning iPad off after I turn iMessage off, waiting 30 seconds and rebooting. It does not help
Oh I have my iCloud email addrrss, and regular email address setup for messages on iPad 4!"  My cell number is checked buy shaded out. It will not uncheck
    Thank you

I am probably being dense. But iMessage is off on iPhone so nothing is selected . On iPad I have 1 email address picked which is my regular email and the @me account checked off. Then it has my phone number shaded gray which I am assuming is because the iPad is not a phone.  What am I missing, any ideas? Thank so much

  • Can I Turn off iMessage in a group text with multiple people with different devices? There's 1 person in the group text that doesn't use iPhone anymore and they can't see any messages that are sent unless we send as regular text individually.

Is there a way to turn off iMessage for a group text that includes multiple people with different non-apple devices? When a message is sent, only the iPhone users can see the iMessage. Those without them cannot see the texts unless we send individual Text Messages or turn off iMessage completely.

now I have this and it still doesn't work.
